The MVP guarantee is that there will never be a post using the term pollyanna that is not just meant to be a dumb joke.

Noteworthy pitching performances from Red Sox prospects on 8/17:

Chris Murphy (AA): 7 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 7 K

Raynel Espinal (AAA): 7 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 6 K

Wyatt Olds (FCL): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1K (debut)

Christopher Troye (FCL) 1 IP, 2K (debut)

Jacob Webb (FCL): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2K (debut)

If the Red Sox actually learn to develop some starters...

It's been a quick adjustment to Double-A for Chris Murphy as the left-hander has an ERA of just 2.12 over 17 innings. He's struck out 21, walked five, and batters are hitting .183 against him. Now ranked 16th in the system, the 23-year-old has come a long way from where he was at the University of San Diego. In his college career, he walked 115 batters in 214 innings, but so far in 2021, he's walked less than three batters per nine innings.

The Red Sox can't develop pitching.

Jay Groome (SP; W): 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K (81 pitches)

Nick Yorke, 2B: 3-4, 1 3B, 3 R (891 OPS overall)

Luis Ravelo 936 OPS in AUG (IFA last year)

Miguel Bleis 956 OPS overal

In retrospect, signing Yorke underslot and landing Blaze in the 3rd round was a great job by Bloom. If they sign another 1st round guy at slot, no way could they sign Blaze afterwards. Yorke looks like he can hit. Blaze looks like he can hit. The questions surrounding those guys are where they play. There's been an assumption that Yorke would go to LF, but if Downs doesn't pan out, Yorke probably sticks at 2b.

Great observations.

I think, when all is said and done, we will be very happy with what Bloom did to our team and system from top to bottom.

They took a big gamble in it paid off.

In a year in which they only had 5 rounds the Sox had no second round pick.

They identified a guy at #17 that no one had going in the first couple rounds. People had him going in the 4th-5th round. They knew they could draft him to save the money and throw it at whoever fell to them.

You look stupid when those guys bust, but genius when it works out.

I’ve been one to highly criticize DD’s farm emptying tactics, although I have never said he left it bare. Keeping Devers was huge, and he deserves credit for drafting pretty well with some rather low picks. His IFA record was not all that great, but he was handed 2 years of restriction by Ben.

That being said, I really like what Bloom has added to the farm and big club.

Whitlock

Mayer

Downs

Yorke

Jordan

Seabold

Wong

Winckowski

Bleis

RHernandez

McDonough

Hickey

And others that may rise quickly through the ranks.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed by

Rosario

Potts

German

Wallace

And others, but overall you expect some won’t come through or will take longer than hoped.

Bloom also acquired a lot of raw talent with high upside. Only time will tell with them.

Good summary of things.

Mayer cranked his first HR, today!

And Seabold had a dominant game. And Yorke hit 2 HR. Yorke looks like a beast! If I'm not mistaken, Yorke is not playing at the age appropriate level. That is, Yorke is young for his league and yet he is putting up impressive numbers. That is a good sign.

Some prospects I’m curious about are the De la Rosa, Freddy Valdez and Gambrell kids we got in the Beni trade.

Winckowski may end up being the best of the deal, but any thoughts on these other guys?

De La Rosa: reliever, no high upside

Valdez: high ceiling bat, but is nowhere near that at the moment

Gambrell: lots of injury issues, pitched poorly this year, on 60 day IL

Yes, I hears about the high upside on Valdez, but maybe it's a long shot- like Ockimey was.

He's just very far away. There's little value in watching his boxscore right now.

@SoxProspects

Bryan Gonzalez belted a three-run homer (5) in the FCL Red Sox 11-1 win today. The 19-year-old outfielder has slashed .266/.343/.457 over 109 PA this season.

This guy had a crazy run at the beginning of 2019 for his DSL team. He can flat out mash.

@redsoxstats

Yorke's final 56 games with Salem: 258 PA, 10 HR, 27 XBH, 26 K, 33 BB, 377/469/614

Just monster numbers right there.

Three Red Sox players on MLB's Prospect Team of the Week: Yorke, Murphy and Hernandez:

Another 2021 draftee is headed to Low-A, as 1B Niko Kavadas (11th rd out of @NDBaseball) has been added to Salem's roster.

He was 5-for-21 with 2 2B and 1 HR, with 7 BB in a short stay in Fort Myers in the FCL.

Leadoff batter Nick Yorke had another tremendous game at the plate, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and a home run. He's up to .435/.458/.826 in his first five games with the Drive.

You mean the Croaking Frogs in a Globe of Frogs?

I mean Michigan J. Frog of One Froggy Evening, probably the greatest cartoon ever made.
