Today's probables:

AAA - Worcester: Stephen Gonsalves 4:35 pm

AAA - Worcester: Connor Seabold (#5) Game 2

AA - Portland: Victor Santos 6:00 pm

A+ - Greenville: Chris Murphy (#16) 7:00 pm

A - Salem: Jeremy Wu-Yellend (#36) 7:00 pm

Wu-Yelland was a 2020 pick, Murphy a 2019 pick. Victor Santos was the PTBNL for CJ Chatham (maybe his first Sox start?). It'll be interesting to see if Seabold can have a solid outing as the MLB squad could use another starter. Gonsalves was seen as a guy who could have had an impact on the MLB pen this year because his stuff ticked up, but he hasn't shown much.

Red Sox 3rd round pick Tyler McDonough (NC State, $829K) is making his pro debut in Florida at noon, he's batting 2nd and playing second base.

Really? call him up already!

He's versatile. He's productive. He's been here before. The only reason he isn't up is he's not on the 40 man. Not sure that's a valid reason at this point!

@MLBPipeline

Blaze Jordan continues to mash.

4 homers in his past 11 games, and he's slashing .353/.400/.662.

Move this dude up.

Munoz left yesterday's game with an injury.

This is Bloom's fault. If he was called up, he wouldn't have been injured.

DFA Andriese and add him. Is it possible?

What's the purpose. We still pay him the same.

MVP is saying Muñoz is not in the 40m. What am I missing?

He was DFA'd long ago and passed through waivers and stayed with the Sox off the 40 man roster.

Andriese has a ML contract.

Why are you asking about him on the prospect thread?

MVP brought the topic about Muñoz and he is a guy I want in the team. What’s the big deal? Lol

1) He's out hurt.

2) He's not on the 40 (not a big deal to DFA someone to make room)

3) He's not the best option (neither is Casas).

Posted
Also, isn’t he a prospect?

Andriese collects Social Security in 34 years.

He's been in MLB since 2015.

Munoz is 26 1/2

He was in MLB in 2018.

1. He just hurt. I just figured out MVP said it. How bad is his injury?

2. That’s why I was saying DFA Andriese to make room.

3. Why not? He’s hot. He’s versatile. He played well last year as long I remember. He can’t be worse than Cordero or Dalbec.

Cordero was hot.

Duran was hot.

Dalbec was hot.

Why makes you think bringing up the hot hand works?

How about actually keeping the most skilled players on the 26?

No one is talking about Andriese. He was a colleteral thing.

Why are you asking me? Ask MVP! He brought him up, and I don’t find it a big deal at all lol

It’s what teams do. If you suck you are sent down. If you are hot in minors they call you up. It’s baseball.

Cordero and Dalbec suck right know. Muñoz could worked out mostly since we didn’t make a lot of moves and he showed good things last year.

Posted

It's more than just being hot. Especially the way minor league baseball is played now, in the beginning of the year the WOOSOX played 3 teams the first month and two of them have among the minors worse pitching. It's about who they're playing and other various factors. A guy might be a GREAT mistake hitter and put up great numbers in the minors but a front office might be skeptical that he will replicate that in the majors where the quality of pitching is much tougher.

As fans, we scout box scores, and often get angry when guys aren't moved accordingly, but these major league teams know what they're doing.

@SoxProspects

Per @alexspeier (and now seemingly confirmed by the Salem website's roster), 3B/1B Blaze Jordan and 2B/CF Tyler McDonough have been promoted to Low-A Salem.

@alexspeier

Jordan hit .362/.408/.667 with four homers and 12 extra-base hits in 19 games/76 plate appearances. While strikeouts had been a concern for him entering pro ball, his K rate during that FCL run was a reasonable 17.1 percent.

2020 DRAFT:

Yorke - 795 OPS in Salem, after starting ice cold (484 OPS in May, 953 June, 967 July)

Jordan - see above

Wu Yelland - 10.89 K/9, 1.25 WHIP in Salem as a SP, reduced his walks in July

Drohan - 8.19 K/9, 1.42 WHIP in Salem as a SP, had a pretty terrible June 2.19 WHIP, but was productive in May and July 1.13 and 1.15 respectively

Seems like this was a decent draft for only getting 4 guys (missing 2nd round pick).

Will be interesting to see how the 2021 draft starts to shake out over the next few years.
