Yeah, the only way chipping in a lot of money to move Eovaldi and/or JD makes sense is if some really quality prospects are coming back.

Thank you for adjusting my perspective: from now on, any deal where we add cash won't go to paying off salary, but for the cost of "acquiring" a good prospect. Now we're big market again -- everyone's for sale.

The sports guys on new York radio said bloom is talking to everybody and almost everybody on the team is available.

I find they add some excitement

Most avid baseball fans really enjoy the trade deadline. Adds excitement, as you say. It drives me crazy in this day of instant information and endless speculation.

Just let me know when a deal has been completed, then I can process it.

I'm sure he is listening to offers on every player. It would be stupid not to. However, there are several players that he will not move unless he is blown away by an offer. There are some GMs out there who could surprise us.

Also, when I get my sports journalism, I don't typically go to NYC radio guys.

For many years now, however, there has been far more baseball talk on NY sports radio than Boston sports radio. This was true even in the summer of 2018 -- the Red Sox were playing their best ball in a century, while most callers and "personalities" savored the drama of NFL training camp.

I just don't put much faith in the "talk" no matter the quantity of it.

This time of year, everything is just conjecture but we're told what is "really" happening behind the scenes. I don't believe it.

Like Kimmi said, Bloom said that he'd be stupid not to listen to offers on everyone, but he's not actively shopping the entire roster as some would leave you to believe.

I wholeheartedly believe Henry does not want to field a AAAA roster on 4/1/21. He probably wants a younger team that can "compete" (i.e. 86ish wins) in the sort term, but is set up to be the top of the league for the longer term.

He's turning 1010 WINS into 1010 LOSS

The speculation about players must bother them, particularly when there is little chance of any trade being made in specific cases.

I prefer to think in terms of the basic goals as Bloom has already stated. He has been tasked with making the team consistently competitive. Unstated, but probably also likely, is that he wants to put an improved team on the field in 2021. To do that, he needs to retain the core players and also perhaps a few veterans who will help the team during the transition and be gone after 2021.

To do that, Bloom has to get fair value for those who don't fit the status of core player or short term help for 2021. I doubt if he can trade all of those that don't fit the want to keep categories by Aug 31st. He also has to listen to any offers for our want to keep list, but the offers have to blow him away to be considered, meaning they have to have the appearance of a clear trade win for the Sox. A swap of Beni for Judge would be an example of being blown away ( joke but it demonstrates what being blown away means).

I will consider his trades on the basis of the principles above.

Here's a Bloom quote from this week:

To say that someone is truly untouchable, you’re probably lying to yourself and lying to a player, if you say that. There could be situations where there might be exceptions to that. But I think we have to be realistic that in theory there could always be something that could happen with anybody. But I don’t think that’s indicative of any big news or anything like that. We’re not doing our jobs if we’re not willing to be opened to opportunities.”

It doesn't sound like he's actively "shopping" anyone. His position is that everyone should be "available" for the right trade. However, it's not reasonable to suggest that every player is "available" in the traditional sense that he's actively looking to shop said players.

I agree that nobody should ever be "unavailable." Couldn't the Angels get a return for Trout that would make sense for them to move him? If the Yankees were given an amazing offer for Judge, shouldn't they move him? The same could be said for Raffy, Devers or whoever else.

Nobody is off limits, especially for a team staring at a profound rebuild. The fist thing the sox need to try to do is shed cost. But if they can deal off a star and get the groundwork for a rebuild/new core in return, then you gotta take it

They did that already. Betts. Price...

There’s clearly more

The only players that could make a decent dent would be Bogaerts, Martinez, and Eovaldi. Unless the offer is very significant, I'd be surprised if any of them were dealt for a couple reasons.

I don't think the Sox are going to do any sort of prolonged rebuild. They have never done that under Henry. He doesn't mind spending on players to win. He just minds spending on penalties...

Could the rumors be true of sending Vaz to SD... if so what would be the deal and what more could be added to make it a splash for us

Vaz and Chavis for Campusano and Quantrill

Legitimate rumor (if such a thing exists) or just your educated guess?

The rumor was Vaz for Campusano, but that's an overpay for Vaz. Padres wouldn't do it. Sox would need to add players to get Campusano.

Think the very flawed Chavis is enough of an enticement?

With Tatis, Machado, Cronenworth, France, Mateo, and Hosmer, infield might not be their biggest weakness...

Hey that site only tells you if the trade values are equal, not whether or not both teams actually want the players involved... :)
