Oye. Pivetta is a 5 at best. High ERA and WHIP guy. What a bargain. Hope the prospect has value because this look stupid otherwise.
But we will have him under tam control for years... or he has big upside potential... or we our baseball people have spotted something in his delivery that can be adjusted. All ********. The guy stinks and we traded our best 2 relievers for him.

Seabold is the Get look up his numbers ! Pretty solid pitcher on the cheap .Love the move .Pivetta looks like a reclamation project or BP arm .

Don’t be like that and don’t listen to the negative BS on this trade .Pivetta has above average stuff and slots in this year as our number 2 starter don’t judge this yet .Next year With Sale not returning until June look at Erod a FA Pivetta as a number 3 .Both these guys can pitch .The Trade is excellent and I’m impressed .Chaims not done with trades I do expect something significant next hoping for a Cleveland deal .

I could slot in as our #3 this year. Pivetta has been a bust. He's been healthy, so there are no excuses on that front. He's just not good.

I don’t think he’s a bust A700 he’s got filthy stuff so you can’t teach that let’s see if Chaim can turn this guy into a star for us .Seabold has easy Mechanics and in my opinion could get more giddy up with his body .I absolutely think this trade pans out better than most do .Pivetta May turn a corner after getting dealt .

I am not sure how Bloom could turn him around as the GM. I know that Pivetta had promise a couple of years ago, but he has had 3 full years -- 2 as a starter. How long does promise last?

I don’t think Chaim is a stupid man A700 .I look at the Rays now and think hmm what’s Chaim up to right? The rays use Beeks and some 6 10 looking guy as change of pace guys often .How about Seabold and Pivetta in the pen as change of pace or opening games ? Chaim and the Rays don’t play by the rules many hardline baseball guys do .I guess I. Excited for Pivetta and Seabold because they get a real shot to impact this team in any way Chaim deems fit . This is a good move A700 he’s not done .

He has been working with a 2 man starting rotation. How has that been working?

A700 don’t you think at worst this helps with depth you speak of ? I can see your not a fan of this move but it’s a solid move and we have to wait and see now how well it goes .Lets hope it goes well

Maybe he knows something about the minor leaguer that we don't know. Only time will tell. Pivetta can't be worse than the garbage that we are rolling out in the 3rd to 5th slots.

Hembree had very little value. Workman has been good, but he has not been great.

My guess is, we got about the best we could. I'd hoped for more, but this might work out.

It makes us slightly better for 2021 and beyond, and we don't have Hembree's last arb to pay.

Now, who's next?

Moreland?

Eovaldi?

Pillar?

JBJ with cash?

Vaz?

Barnes?

Cubs fans said the exact same thing when the team acquired Jake Arrieta...

I actually expected Pivetta or Vince Velasquez for Workman (and posted some deals on baseballtradevalues.com).

I prefer Pivetta. I know if you read down the ERA column on his B-R page, it’s not impressive. But the guy has 2 seasons as a starter in his career. And in the second one he had 3.79 FIP, 1.31 WHIP and 10.3 K/9 with a 3.69 K/BB and held those numbers up for 164 IP.

For 1 month of a reliever on a team going nowhere? It’s a good deal. Not sure what people expected for Workman during a season when the post season could be cancelled any minute now...

Pivetta is clearly a big league quality arm. I do wonder if he’s best served as a reliever long term. Maybe Bloom sees him as a bulk guy following an opener.

Seabold sounds like the righty version of Beeks. Control, command guy with average K rates and solid walk rates. Seems almost like another bulk type guy for Bloom.

If you look at the Rays from 2019, there were only 3 real starters. Glasnow, Morton, and Snell. Glasnow and Snell spent a lot of time on the IL. Chirinos ended up in the rotation later in the year, but he was a very effective bulk guy. Yarbrough made a living out of it. Beeks was very good at it. This is how be broke starters into the big leagues.

Now for Bloom’s position to work, he needs to develop effective openers. Right now, the Sox don’t have any. You will. This deal is very Bloom-esque

We need arms anywhere. We’re using Chris Mazza as a starter/opener...

You’ve spent more than enough time calling Hembree a pig. Not sure why you’re sad to see him go now.

I agree. A fair deal. They have post season hopes and needed to bolster their pen this year. We aren't going anywhere and needed arms for 2021 and beyond. I do expect more but other than Moreland, and Vaz who of that group is attractive enough to draw much interest. I exclude Eovaldi, as he has the very qualities we are looking for.

A great trade for the Red Sox. I guess the Phillies were desperate for some bullpen upgrades.

2021 rotation:

E-Rod

Eovaldi

free agent: T.Bauer?

Pivetta

Perez

with C.Sale returning

The Yankees better win a World Series this year; their window will be closed next season when T.Bauer joins E-Rod and Sale in the Red Sox rotation. Oh baby, I'm feeling it--a big Red Sox turnaround in 2021!

He was a prize pig. And he was one of the few major league arms in the bullpen.

I don’t think he was all that in demand...

That is really sugar coating it. An ERA in the 4’s would be unimpressive. An ERA in the 5’s is putrid.

Like Hembree’s 5.59 ERA?

Someone wanted him, which is more than you can say for the rest of the pen after Workman and Barnes. That made him a prize pig. In return we got a guy with a “big league arm” who is a truly awful pitcher. Hopefully, he can give us some innings. It’s like going to a restaurant where the food is lousy but the portions are large. It’s still a s***** meal.

8 year career ERA of 3.60 by Hembree. 5.50 career ERA for Pivetta. Hembree never had a single season with an ERA as bad as Pivetta’a career ERA. His career worst in a full season was 4.20. You are just being dopey. There is no comparison.

So what’s your point? Exactly what do you think guys like Hembree and Workman are worth in a trade? We weren’t offering Aroldis Chapman here. The Sox offered up two aging relievers having questionable seasons and a combined one season of control left after next month...

Posted
So who’s next?

I say Barnes. Maybe to Houston...

I don't know if Barnes will be next, because he'll be the guy the Sox get the best return for. He's not a free agent like Workman, throws 100 and has shown -- if not overworked -- he can get good hitters out in pressure situations.

Boston got guys with potential for Workman and Hembree, but should be able to get someone with good potential for Barnes. Let the bidding begin.
