It is still likely that the season will be cancelled due to corona virus, based on the upsurge in cases around the country. We have seen large groups gathering for protests, riots, at bars and at block parties to name a few. Because of the transmissability of the virus it doesn't, didn't take much to push the number of cases up. I wouldn't be surprised if the newly agreed upon season craters.

That could still happen. As much as I want baseball to return, safety comes first. MLB officials seem to think they have the proper protocols in place, though I'm not sure how well some of the rules will be followed.

Instead of predicting win totals, what's the over-under on a team's games played this summer? 30, 40, 50 or 60?

That's a good question. I have no idea how this is going to work out.

Yes, for a month.

Damn straight, Tony.

Best wishes, Rob

You choose the number. I'll take the unders.

But you'd still prefer it's not the Yanks, right?

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter what team it is if it isn’t the Sox. No difference between the Rays and Yanks to me.

The Red Sox announce that their first official team workout will be on July 3rd at Fenway Park.

I'm off on Friday. Maybe I'll drive by House of Blues and see if there's any HR balls to catch

Do they still have the Bleacher Bar in CF? That'd be a cool place to hang out for a while.

1) Are they even open right now? I don't believe bars are open in CT yet, even bars at regular restaurants.

2) I think they have a deal with the team to only open that window/door for BP. The Sox would probably want Friday's practice to be as private as possible anyway

Closed to takeout and delivery per their website. Maybe they try to reopen once the Sox get rolling? IDK. I'm far away so I don't know how businesses are responding up there.

Players from other teams who have opted out so far:

Ryan Zimmerman, Joe Ross, Mike Leake, Ian Desmond

I’m wondering about Anthony Rizzo and Jon Lester, as both are former cancer patients and likely high risks...

I haven't heard anything about Rizzo. Lester made some type of comment about getting ready for the season a couple of days ago, which led to me to believe that he has every intention of playing.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred on The Dan Patrick Show: “"The reality is, we weren’t going to play more than sixty games, no matter how the negotiation with the players went or any other factor”

He's going to lose his shorts during the next negotiations if he keeps putting his foot in his mouth like this.

I don't understand this asinine statement. Isn't this a bald-faced admission that they were not negotiating in good faith?

And who really benefits with going public with all the dirt?

Fans admire pro players for what they give us -- dreams and a rooting interest: 1). we'd all like to be good enough to make the majors, and 2). get rich playing a game, but as a consolation for 99.9% of us 3). the MLB invites us to spend our free time and disposable income watching rich big leaguers.

When they start rubbing 1. and 2. into our faces, however, is when the MLB risks losing both -- as we decline #3....

I don't see regaining my interest in mlb until 2021 at the earliest.

Freddie Freeman with the Covid fever... three other Braves positive... total virus cases in the MLB in the 30s. And the season has yet to begin, when teams will be packed together on airplanes.

Remember in March when one NBA player got it, and all sports shut down indefinitely... pro, college, high school, youth...

Buster Olney gives baseball a 5% chance of even starting -- and zero chance of finishing.

I'm watching Game One of the 1970 World Series this weekend... harkening back to a time before free agency, when Baltimore and Cincinnati played the best baseball in the land.

Separate Planes? They have enough money.

But seriously, I thought that they were limiting the flying that teams have to do.

This is just one of the impracticalities of not playing in a bubble like the NBA and NHL will be (trying to do). Boston can't just take a team bus to places like Baltimore, Philly, Washington, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa and Toronto. The closest bus ride from Boston is to NYC at four and a half hours... even if teams wanted to risk packing onto buses for 10-20 hour trips, there's no time if they really want to play 60 games in 66 days.

The other impracticality is to trust athletes mostly in their testosterone 20s to avoid socializing or patronizing establishments when not at the ballpark.

My concern is for my fellow single twenty-somethings. There's nothing stopping them from inviting lady friends over to their hotel rooms for a little fun
