Unlikely scenario Lar. Maybe you'll just have to do what a normal human being would, and hope Sale is healthy.

I do hope he is 100% healthy this year. Because if he is, chances are we probably make the playoffs this year.

But we have to be realistic and prepare for the worst! Arm injuries just don’t go away.

Sometimes arm injuries do heal.

Any injury to a pitcher is a sore arm. I forget when I first heard the adage (that I'm sure I paraphrased) -- maybe in the 60s when they were talking about the demise of Dizzy Dean, then a broadcaster. He had a sore toe, changed his delivery to compensate and wrecked his wing.

Since the very definition of an athlete is to push one's body to the limits, pitchers have got to be among the most fragile... just a tweak away from being ineffective or done.

Position players, even hobbled, can contribute in many ways. But rare are the pitchers who last a long time; this may be where the myth of the small-bodied baseball player breaking down originated -- because some big guys who throw can still perform with aches and pains vs. smaller types (think Derek Lowe vs. Pedro post '04: Lowe 257 games started, 104 wins; Martinez 88 games started, 37 wins).

So are you arguing that Lowe and his big, bulky beer body outlasted Pedro due to size and not due to the fact that Martinez made 200 starts more than Lowe pre-2004?

Are there concerns about Bogaerts’ health? Saw an article with that title but the link didn’t work.

Sore ankle, appears to be nothing major.

jacksonianmarch didnt start a thread about it so it has to be nothing.

I didn't see him take BP, but I talked to people who saw him taking BP and fielding practice.

I'm not arguing at all. I never agreed with the cliche that Mookie will break down and miss time with injuries just because he's almost a foot shorter than Judge and Stanton... because, you know how durable they've been the past couple years.

I'm still trying to figure out which player in history was the poster boy for the short-guy myth -- it started way before Pedroia, and he's a bad case because anyone of any size can have a knee caved in. But the narrative can't go back too far, because ballplayers and people in general were shorter in the days of Mel Ott (5'9, 511 HRs) or Big Poison Waner (5'8, 153 lbs. -- but 20 pounds heavier than his brother, Little Poison).

Maybe this whole baseball fabrication evolved from other sports, where size really does matter in competition where athletes constantly smack into each other at full speed.

There was a rumor that the sox wanted to fire Dombrowski after winning the WS because of all the bad debt he put on the team in the WS aftermath. That tells me that Henry is an idiot if he gave free range to DD to spend like a drunken sailor while he was drunk off a title. They thought it would be bad PR if they fired him right after a title, but so be it.

My bet is Chaim Bloom had many, many suitors. I anticipate he was able to push Henry into agreeing on a rebuild. There is no 2 ways about it. Henry divulged Sale's damaged arm and Bloom clearly saw the dead farm and the overbloated payroll and told Henry outright that he needed to rebuild and he wouldn't sign on the dotted line unless Henry agreed to it. Henry may have already been in that camp with his prior comments about getting under the LT. With Sale likely down for the season and the rotation looking like the 3 frequently injured stooges, there is no prayer of contention

Sounds about right. They also refused to fire Farrell after he got sick. Henry is a dum dum who just cares about appearances.

That rumor doesn't make a lot of sense. Fire him when, exactly?

Eddie Gaedel. Very short career. Lasted just one plate appearance...

The article I read said they wanted to ax DD before ST of 2019

DD signed Sale to the extension in late March 2019.

So that would mean they wanted to fire him while he was negotiating a 145 million deal.

Does that make any sense to you?

Roenicke is a stooge, not a leader at all. The guy has zero presence... a total nonentity in the clubhouse. Half the players probably couldn't pick him out of a lineup.

He’s the perfect patsy for a rebuild

What a fugly day this turned out to be.

Not that I expect much from Perez, but spring training outings really do mean absolutely nothing for guys with guaranteed roster spots...

Martin Perez fails to make it through 1 inning.

Give him a break. I was watching the inning. Chatham, playing short had two misplays, Lin should have caught a ball in center but got a late break, Perez himself was slow to cover at first. He should have been out of it with a lot less damage so it is hard to judge much from that inning.

I hate the way the announcers don't even say who is at bat. They obviously don't care.

Just wait until the regular season. It's going to get brutal. Half the broadcast will be about Joseph Aboud or whatever.

Wait, what? Sale likely down for the season?

Edit: Oh I see your other thread. Sucks, but not surprised in the least.
