To be fair, I’ve seen the “long run ending in dropped ball” scored a hit sometimes...

Check out the video of Kyle Seager's two-run "single" on Monday:

I've seen much worse called hits. This play was hard, He was running hard and nearing the wall.

Why? Perfect ending to a s*** season.

Don’t like it? Don’t read it any further or participate in it.

They won't play MN for at least 2 rounds.

They are toast.

I get that, but you didn't answer my question.

I know you have been on the side of the "cliff" being unavoidable, as I was, but I'm wondering when you expected it to arrive?

To me,last year's performance and and the reset priority being known were big clues that the cliff had already arrived.

Sure, without the Sale and ERod health issues, we'd have been "better," but both of them are signed through 2021 or longer, so were you thinking 2022 or 2023?

There were several variables to consider, so I'm not sure I had a specific year in mind, but 2020 or 2021. I was thinking the cliff would occur when the Red Sox decided to reset. I wasn't convinced that they were going to reset this year, and thought it would actually make more sense to wait until next year to reset because of the talent still on the team.

That's why teams use advanced defensive metrics such as those provided at Statcast.

Amen, brother.

That's all that needs to be said.

Fair enough. Once we traded Betts and knew Sale was toast, the cliff arrived early.

I’ve seen a lot of good things in this down season. The big three being:

1.) hang’em Chaim seems to have figured out what type of pitcher works well in Fenway,

2.) we traded a bunch of spare parts for some minor leaguers that could develop into important pieces for us.

3.) our offense suffered a hit with the loss of Betts and company, but have the makings of a solid offense going forward.

Baseball Trade Values provides not only entertainment but an interesting player comp.

BTV values four years of Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo at $62.3 million and five years of Seattle outfielder Kyle Lewis at $20 million:

https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/players/9657/

https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/players/8698/

This season Verdugo and Lewis each posted 1.7 fWAR with a wRC+ of 126:

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/alex-verdugo/17027/stats?position=OF

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/kyle-lewis/19508/stats?position=OF

Verdugo, who is 10 months younger than Lewis, had a BABIP of .371 with a 7.7 percent walk rate and 20.4 percent strikeout rate. Lewis had a BABIP of .341 with a 14.0 percent walk rate and a 29.3 strikeout rate.

Advanced metrics gave Verdugo the edge on defense with a UZR/150 of 13.5 with seven DRS while Lewis had a UZR/150 of a negative 4.1 with a negative three DRS.

Verdugo peaked at No. 35 (2019) and Lewis at No. 34 (2017) on Baseball America Top 100 prospect lists. A character issue has followed Verdugo while injuries sidelined Lewis early in his professional career.

It will be interesting to follow their careers going forward.

Rich Hill isn't on the Twins roster?

...and many felt Ben would never trade prospects.

I do not think that is 100 percent accurate.

The thinking was more along the lines of Ben “overvaluing prospects”.

Shouldn’t we wait for the Blaming of the Umpires? There are traditions we need to respect...
