And he would have to come down equally hard on the second offender Yankees....

Smoke? No smoke in the Bronx!

New York Yankees: Girardi video surfaces, raises illegal sign-stealing questions

Over the last few days, Twitter was lit abuzz with a suspicious video that has resurfaced from a couple of years ago. In it, former Yankees manager Joe Girardi describes how the Bronx Bombers delivered stolen signs to batters in his time with the team.

“I was part of a system where [the signs] came from upstairs, to someone in the dugout, to the guy at second base,” Joe Girardi said before fumbling with his words.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- J.D. Martinez offered an interesting bit of information when appearing on OMF Thursday. Evidently, the Red Sox were prepared for the Astros' system of cheating heading into the 2018 playoffs.

Appearing with Glenn Ordway, Lou Merloni and Christian Fauria at JetBlue Park, Martinez explained how he first heard about Houston's method of stealing signs from Mike Fiers via a text message and not his Red Sox manager Alex Cora.

"You can put me on any lie detector. Alex Cora never influenced us and never told us about that thing," Martinez said. "The only way I ever found out was in the playoffs when Fiers, who is a very good friend of mine, he reached out to me and said, ‘Hey, make sure you’re doing this because this is what these guys are doing in the playoffs.’ I was like, ‘What?! How is this a thing?’ And then I mentioned it to Alex and he told me about the whole system and everything like that. That was why it was so crazy. He was so relaxed going into those playoff games because we we ready for it."

In terms of carrying over any of the elements of the cheating system from Houston to Boston, Martinez said that never happened with Cora during the former manager's tenure with the Red Sox.

"He was amazing at picking up things the right way," Martinez said of Cora. "These guys here, the guys that we have, they’re so good at every little thing. Any little hiccup they’ll find it. But you can put me on any detector you want, I’ll volunteer it. That never happened here."

As for the current investigation of the Red Sox, the designated hitter is baffled by the insinuations. "It’s one of those things where I don’t understand it. I’ve talked and given my side of it, they heard me and I guess we’re just waiting to see what happens," he said.

Says the person that continually accused a kid of being a suspected rapist despite being continually shown evidence showing otherwise.

A-holes indeed.

Yeah, I know. Not a rapist. Rather, just a camera guy. You know, like all of us here. As long as we're drunk enough, having a 17-year-old get assaulted in our hotel room is no big thing. So I guess death threats to athletes aren't either?

Posted
Yeah, I know. Not a rapist.

Well done. It's taken some time but you've at last stopped accusing a kid of being a rapist where there's zero evidence of it.

"Zero" is a big word. As I understand it, the only controversy is whether he was passed out while this was going on or he was holding the camera. Both of those things kinda bother me, but I guess I understand why for others, it's no big deal. (Sorry, gotta run. I'm late for a Kobe celebration.)

He was out of the room when the suspected sexual assault was said to have happened. There was no videoing of a rape.

I can't tell if you're stupid, ignorant, or happy to keep banging this drum because you don't like a trade. I hope it's not the last one at least, but I suspect it might be.

And the low-life move of continually suggesting people would okay with a sexual assault is sickening.

yeah, that's not true at all. he's not being accused of passing out OR filming a sexual assault. nice try though.

His posts definitely aren't going to bring Mookie back or make the Sox rescind his trade.

I look forward to all of his comments in this season's gamethreads when Verdugo returns.

Well, you guys are obviously reading different reports from the ones I see readily on-line, although you haven't cited them (you can look back to see the reports I'm basing my views on). I actually hope you're right, and I hope the reports I've seen are wrong. Please cite the sources you're basing your views on, because I have difficulty understanding people who make excuses for participating in sexual assault, whether the guy is a mid-level player or a superstar like Kobe Bryant. Otherwise, it's pointless to argue. You are not going to persuade me that this kind of thing is just "boys being boys."

Let me know if you're also fine with death threats to Reddick's kids, since it was that topic (death threats) that brought you back to the subject of beating up 17 year old runaways.

You're full of s***. Earlier in the debate some articles were supplied backing up 'your' side of the argument and then were immediately debunked and shown to be opinion pieces that got their facts wrong - probably on purpose as they are like yourself, happy to wrongly accuse a kid of all sorts or stuff because they didn't like a trade. The original article (which all else has come from) was then supplied and it was pointed out by several posters - there was absolutely no mention of accusations that Verdugo was anywhere near a potential rape/sexual assault and or filmed anything to do with the sexual assault.

And yet you've continued to bang the drum continuously. And even in this post continue to suggest he was involved in a sexual assault despite the girl saying he was not in the room and was not the boy in question. I guess you just know better than the person actually in the f***ing room that was possibly sexually assaulted?

If he was involved with laughing at the girl getting hit then he was a prick. If he had anything to do with the filming of her getting beat up, he was a prick. If he still feels like it was funny now, he's a prick. Of course we don't know any of this and we don't know (if either of the first two things are true) whether he has genuine guilt and remorse over it. All we know for sure was that he wasn't in the room when the sexual assault was said to have taken place because this has been verified by the possible victim.

So you can run around moralising about Kobe Bryant for some reason and trying to make out you're just so above all this, but you're posting lies about a kid (accusing him of rape FFS) because he had the temerity to be involved in a trade that made you cry. He might be a low life for all I know, but make no mistake about it, you are one for damn sure.

Even repeatedly bringing up the Kobe Bryant case, as if that was so clear. I know it’s very common for sexual assault victims to refuse to testify, but very few of them also have their own civil suits. There’s a good possibility that whole affair was more about the settlement than the crime.

Bryant admitted to adultery, but beyond that, this is really just more dragging names through the mud

At this point, why are we even rehashing this. The guy who did the assaulting was not Verdugo. He walked in on it. It stopped. That's all I got out of it. Bryant's issues were a different ball of wax, but he is dead and we move on.

Onto the original point of this thread, Not-a-Manfred keeps dragging this thing out. Disgraceful. He said a month ago that he would have a verdict within a week. Now, still no timetable. The guy has ZERO idea how to run the organization. You finish this BEFORE the games start. Let the games starting be the rebirth of spring and move on. Dragging this into spring will put a stain on the games being played. Finish this. To have this investigation looming over actual games would be damaging to the product you are trying to market. It is bad for baseball as a whole

No.

I can see why you chose medicine over law.

Just get the thing done right regardless of how long it takes. Everyone wants it done quickly, but sacrificing the truth in order to meet a deadline is absolutely the wrong way to go regardless of the outcome...

I'll believe it when I see it. Manfred is a bumbling fool. Watch, he will get another piece of "info" and finally announce the results on opening day. He has literally no idea how to market the game

Then don't tell the media you are going to announce something within a week and go silent for a freaking month.

I promise. I’ll stop doing that.

Can I just make one more little announcement to the media?

It will be good to get it resolved. I wonder if the investigation uncovered possible cheating my other teams. That could be a real can of worms for Manfred and he probably wants to avoid tarnishing the entire league.

The media spin here has been that MLB went back in to re-interview certain Sox players and other parties. That is not encouraging. That is the sort of thing that happens when interviews taken later in the process uncovers more evidence requiring that investigators go back and re-interview. Then again, in Manfred-World, there is no telling what they could be doing.
