when you got fans are making excuses for them and being denial about their own cheating clubs.

Watkins is being punished for being really good at his job.

I'm not sure how or why the Sox were investigated to begin with, but really, this whole thing amounted to nothing but a big waste of time and money.

wasted everyone time. sorry for those very vested outsiders that wanted more out of it. Like that screaming writer.

it's time people shut the f*** up and trying to draw this and the astros as one. but i fear these folks live in their own bubbles.

With the report over, I'm happy with the outcome, especially for Cora.

Because they're the Yankees. That's all the reason that is needed.

I'm glad that they finally released their report and also very happy with the outcome.

One of the things that bothered me the most is how players of other teams kept whining how they were cheated out of the playoffs or out of a championship. Hogwash. The other teams are just as guilty, or in many cases, even more guilty (I'm looking at you CC Sabathia).

David Ortiz says Red Sox sign stealing penalties were unfair: ‘It’s what everybody’s doing in the league right now’

I'm still not convinced of any wrongdoing by Watkins or the Sox, but if they were guilty, they deserve to be punished, and the penalties were fair.

However, why aren't all the other teams being investigated and equally punished?

He should really STFU with the crocodile tears.

All evidence pointing towards them to. It's not what the Sox did, it's what MLB isn't is what I got out of this.

So you’re saying it’s MLB’s version of Deflategate, where the Patriots were punished for being unpopular and because NFL referees have no idea how to use pressure gages...

MLB is trying to push this under the rug, hoping it will go away, rather than acknowledging that cheating is a widespread problem throughout the league.

All MLB has to do is allow pitchers and catchers to wear earpieces and let hand signaling disappear. No signs to steal = no sign stealing...

Apparently the Red Sox problem is that someone 'informed' on them.

And Manfred would probably rather not have to conduct any more of these investigations.

In fact he probably dreads the thought of another 'informant' popping up.

Ah, but how to stop those wily bench coaches from intercepting pitch signals from the opposite dugout to catchers... not to mention the defense stealing offensive signs from base coaches to batters and base runners. That could prevent pitches intentionally aimed at bunters' noggins. plus save a lot of time avoiding pitch-outs and pick-off attempts when clubs are guarding against runners from -- you know -- stealing bases.

I can't believe there is still so much crime in this sport. It's almost as if it's been an accepted part of the game since the beginning of time.

Sounds like a feasible solution. It's another use of technology that I'm not sure I'm in favor of. Sign stealing is a part of the game that has been going on forever.

With the earpieces, sooner or later someone would likely find a way to intercept those conversations. If they did, sign stealing would be even easier. No guessing or decoding involved.

I wonder who the informant was. It doesn't sound like the informant had very reliable information.

I agree that Manfred does not want to have to deal with any more sign stealing allegations.

As long as teams are not using technology, I don't really see anything wrong with trying to figure out the other team's signs. It's all part of the cat and mouse strategy that goes into playing and managing a game.

It was eons ago, but I think it was first reported that 3 people who were with the team in 2018 came forward.

I'm sure you are right about that.

I wonder if it's 3 people who were no longer with the team when they blew the whistle.

I seem to recall reporting which indicated that they were former players of the Red Sox.

Makes sense. The next question is whether they had axes to grind with the Sox.

I don't think so it will just open up a new avenue to get the signs with batters wearing and earpiece to listen in on what the catcher and pitcher are saying.

Far as investigating all of the teams they have the time right now since no one is playing games and I think almost every team was at least trying to get the signals.

With ear pieces?

The coach can speak into the mic to call the pitch and have both batterymates hear it. No need for signals at all....

Each team can operate on a different frequency. Like how NFL teams do. Both head coaches wear headsets, but they don’t hear the same thing.

Each stadium also has a guy responsible for assigning frequencies. Said person reports to the NFL, not the home team. MLB could easily follow this model...

Even though I agree sign stealing has been going on, legitimately, for a very long time, I am also OK with MLB taking a position that you can't use technology to do it. And apparently the Sox only did it sparingly in 2018 and only when they had a man on 2B. Not great, but the minor penalty seems to fit the minor crime.

I would be fine with catchers and pitchers having ear pieces because right now quarterbacks have them and technology is pervasive in all sports. Plus, even with earpieces, teams will continue to study opposing pitchers for "tells" on what their next pitch will be, which is fair.

I believe I read that, in the case of the 2018 Sox, there was ample evidence that ownership had learned from the Pedroia (I believe he was one of the perps) experience of several years ago and emphasized not using technology to pick up signs.

You don't think someone will be able to intercept the other team's frequency?

Also, as with replay and robot umps, just say no.

Hi Max!

I know that technology is out there and prevalent, I just feel like the less technology used in game the better. Stop dehumanizing everything.

I'm sure you are right about that.

Suspects:

Mookie

Holt

Kinsler

Nunez

Leon

Hanley

Phillips

No more shaking off. Add a pitch clock.

It works fine in the NFL.
