A Red Sox fan taunting a team that finished 19 games ahead of the Sox would be like a Seattle fan taunting a Red Sox club that finished 16 games ahead of the Mariners.

That would never happen.:)

A lot of people here are gloating over the fact that the Yankees will not win a ring this year. I can't do it, not when my team never showed up despite being close to the same team that won 108 games last year. Their guys played way over their heads for sure, but when our guys didn't even play its hard for me to knock other teams who were more successful. I think it would be different if we were as competitive as we should have been based on our roster.
I think you are confusing gloating with the happiness of relief.

Exactly. We all know the Yanks were better than us this year. They won a lot of games despite all the injuries.

We are happy they lost, because they are our hated rival, and now we don't have to hear any Yankee fans taunting us all winter long.

And I live in NY and much of my extended family and friends root for the Skanks. It would make the holidays very unpleasant for me if they had won the championship. They are the worst winners of any sports fans.

Yep. It's as simple as that.

This poster is happy the Yankees lost but holds their 2019 club in high regard. Remarkable season.

Hate should be reserved for matters more important than sports (or avoided altogether).

Thanks SG. Ask anyone on here. I show up when we are winning. I show up when we lose. I always post when we are eliminated. I don’t hide

Red Sox and Yankee fans hating each others' teams is not a bad thing, as long as those emotions are confined to things like trash talk on forums like this.

If you don't at least dislike the Yankees, why are you happy they lost?

I have zero animosity towards Sox fans cheering the Yanks demise. I did the same when the Sox were eliminated

The Yankees had a good team that lost to a better team (from the tougher division that includes my favorite team).

Nevertheless, this poster will pull for the Washington Nationals in the World Series because when the Nats were struggling in April I saw two games in DC where my daughter works.

No hate anywhere.:)

This is the second of your posts I've agreed with in one day.

One more, and we have a record!

You know...or we are still the reigning champions. So there’s that. Or not.

I cut the Yankees some slack. They overcame a lot of injuries and Cashman did great finding everything but SP.

But also, I’m glad they’re done. Not gonna lie...

First let me say that I disagree that our team did not play hard. Our starting pitching just didn't have it in them this year, for whatever reason.

Gloating is not the right word. Celebrating? Absolutely. When your team is eliminated, you pull for your arch rivals to lose, and celebrate when they do. That's just the way it is.

As an insightful (or inciteful) poster wrote in August, in the cold, dark nights of a postseason-less October, Red Sox fans will always have warm memories of the 2018 World Series run.

Or not.

I have warm memories of 4 rings now. And DVD sets to match.

"Hate" in the sports context is not true hate for most of us. It's just a rivalry thing. I would not wish ill will on any of the Yankees players or their fans.

I will take great solace in knowing that they will not be WS Champions.

Yep, Yep, Yep....playing 'hard' had nothing to do with it. If your pitchers are hurt, all three starters, and the fourth is struggling. what do you do? We did go out got the starter from Baltimore. And this from team that had all its money tied to starting pitching.

And if the Nationals win, then the big 3 of Dodges, Yankees and Astros failed.

Since Dave Roberts' steal in 2004, Red Sox post season record, 48-28, 4 World Series titles. Yankees record, 39-44, 1 WS title. :) :) :)

And just a reminder that 20 of the Yankees WS titles came prior to the draft.Since it was instituted and they couldn’t just buy anyone they wanted it’s been 7 in 53 years.

Painful though it may be to say this, I believe that is significantly better than the RS did during the same period.

LMAO! Are your feelings hurt? You are so easy! Tough to get to the ALCS and win NOTHING! No World Series in this DECADE! Same as Seattle, Baltimore and other loser teams. Red Sox won two! Red Sox smoked the same Astros team the Yankees just lost to. The Red Sox are the defending World Series Champions. Yankees won't be saying that for a long time. (I hope.LOL).

Hi: new poster, old Sox fan here. Been reading this site all year, living/dying for Boston half a century.

With the Yanks eliminated, it's a relief. Now most of us can relax and enjoy a World Series without the stress of rooting for or against personal heroes and demons. NY had a great, basically miraculous season overcoming all those injuries; it's too bad the majority of their fans view every year that they don't win the final game as a failure (young New England sports fans are probably growing up the same way, which is unfathomable to old timers).

I'm not gloating about the 2018 ALCS -- the Sox beat Cole and Verlander, but let's not forget that Altuve and Correa were both hobbled and neither could hit with power...

This raises an interesting question. Can a Red Sox fan troll a Yankees fan on a Red Sox board? :)

Or does that Yankees fan have to know that his allegiance is going to provoke a certain amount of animosity just by his being here - and be willing to quietly accept it?

That is quite passive aggressive now isn't it. Nah, Teddy Ballgame follows me around with the same exact message. He's like my little lap troll. I should stop leaving out the water and the baby goats and maybe the troll will starve

7 to 4 isn’t as bad as 27 to 9
