Ted, you need to grab a new attitude for 2020. This back and forth with Jax is just cluttering up baseball threads with trash. Jax has been cleared by the mods long ago. Deal with it.
Thanks for the advice Ann Landers.

Being cleared by mods does not mean you're not a juvenile, puberty-stricken a-hole. Ted is not the one cluttering up the board.
Merry Christmas jad! From one Red Sox fan to another.

67, 75, 78, and 86 , how many here have done those 4 Tour of Duties? Anybody that did those is a true fanatic. Lose those heartbreakers, and still follow the Boys, is really something. Winning WS makes it easy. Edited by OH FOY!

After Yaz made the final out in 78, I went out to my Van, drank till 3 in the morning, past out. Didn't go to work next day, Don't worry didn't drive. Didn't want to talk to anybody. Hard to think. That one hurt, and it hurt, real bad. Until 86, MAN, we went through some tough times, as Fans.

Old Timers have the armour to Reset, so not worried about it. Anything can happen during a season, in Baseball.

Merry Christmas to all!!

78 was the worst at the time, because of the opponent and the way that season folded and unfolded. 86 was the most disgusting, blowing a two-run lead in extra-innings that would've won a ring... there was still another game, but we all knew who'd win that one. But 03 had to be the all-time nadir, because of everything that had gone before, leading up to that moment: 72, 74, 75, 77, 78, 86, 88, 90, 95, 99 ad mausoleum..

Why do you think 2011 is never talked about with so much bitterness? So soon after '04 and '07? I know I never felt confident about that '11 team or even liked them; I had wanted to keep Beltran and was against the Crawford signing from the beginning (though I did like Gonzalez).

1978 was the worst. We were in Paramaribo Suriname. A friend of ours was the head honcho of Suriname Television. He invited us over to watch the Satellite Feed. Of course the game was not being broadcast in Suriname. We watched until the fifth inning when the Sat feed went out. Did not find out the score until the next day on VOA shortwave. We were heartbroken.

Just keep making a douchebag of yourself then. We really need lots more posts about trolls cluttering up the board.

Oh yes. Only in 86 did I follow the whole awful series; but I can tell you exactly where I was during all of them. The worst was walking down Broadway in 78, looking into a window with a tv screen, and watching "the" pop-up. I was blessedly in a movie theatre for Stanley's palm-ball heard round the world.

'75 hurt the most to me- maybe because I was a teen. My Packers and Bucks had won championships not long before, but baseball has always been my favorite sport to watch and play. Bernie and Carlton's HRs had me thinking we were on our way. Little did I know the frustration that was to follow 1975 for decades.

1978 sucked, as did '86, but 2004 sure made up for all the heart ache and suffering.

67 was a dream year, so exciting yet excruciating watching Game 7.

86 hurt the most for me of course. what made it easier actually for me to take was the hatred spewed toward one of my very favorite players. 67 though was the special season - I listened to or watched at least parts of every game that season. Fell asleep with a radio stuck to my ear numerous nights. Baseball had much more meaning to me than it does today. You tended to know who was coming back next season and who was going somewhere else. I followed those early 60s teams to and I never got bored. It was baseball. I'd take Momboquette, Morehead, and Wilson today!

I almost mentioned '03. Also, the year we finished 1/2 behind the Tigers due to the strike.

‘08 was another heartbreaker.

Sox trailed Tampa 3 games to 1 and down 7-0 in the 7th inning of the elimination game and battled back to lose in game 7. Probably the second most exciting postseason series of the decade behind the 04 ALCS.

The only reason for the lack of sting was the two titles in the previous 4 seasons....

1967 was such an exciting year by a team no one thought would win. Losing in Game 7 of WS was tough but it was still a great season.

1975 was tough because the Sox were so close to winning. Game 6 was epic and almost seamed like a championship. The Reds were a great team so taking them to 7 games was a great accomplishment.

1978 was gut wrenching because the Sox blew a 14 game lead. But, they came back in the last week to tie and then lost on a fluke homer by you know who off of double agent Mike Torrez.

1986 was the worst at the time because the Sox had a 2 run lead, with 2 outs and 2 strikes, three times and couldn't close it out. They were the better team that didn't win.

2003 was bad because "he who can't be named" refused to take out Pedro and cost the Sox a WS championship. The only saving grace to that season was the Yankees choking to the Marlins. LOL!

2004 was heaven, and beating the Yankees at Yankee stadium was the cherry on top.

2007 was ok but almost expected as the Sox rolled through everyone.

2011 was frustrating but I never liked Gonzalez, Crawford, Lackey, Beckett so it wasn't that hard to take.

2013 was totally unexpected but very satisfying for Sox fans.

2018 was watching a team dominate everyone all year. It was in the bag the whole way. Again, beating the Yankees on their field was icing on the cake.

Good things are coming for Sox fans.

Well said, except I supported keeping Pedro in the game.

I always felt like Pedro at 75% was still better than anyone else we had. Besides, he got beat by a bloop hit on an excellent pitch, so it wasn't like he served up a meatball.

Exactly. If Pedro had made a bad pitch and Posada had actually made decent contact, it would have been a routine fly ball and Grady Little would have been hailed as a genius. (Or if Schiraldi had served up a screaming line drive at someone instead of ... If Bob Stanley's palm ball had flattened out a bit ... Had Buckner stumbled and the ball hit his glove ... Had Bucky Dent overswung and ... That's baseball, I guess.)

Yes, where 20-20 hindsight runs rampant!

Except the Buckner play. Once the Mets tied the game, it started to feel like a loss anyway...

It can be debated until doomsday, I guess. But Posada's hit was on Pedro's 123rd pitch of the night, and it was the Yankees 4th hit in a row. Jeter's double might have been misplayed by Nixon. But the single by Williams was solidly struck, and the double by Matsui was a rocket.

For those who would have left Pedro in, let's say he did get Posada out on that pitch. He's at 123 pitches with still 4 more outs to get, and the next hitter was Giambi, who has homered twice in the game. Would you leave Pedro in to face Giambi?

I would have squirmed through a worm-hole in the time-space continuum, seen the future, and acted accordingly, of course. It's really quite simple.

Pedro was clearly tiring and Timlin had been very good. Theo obviously thought he should have been taken out or else the manager would have been back in 2004.
