Our franchise high water mark for wins is 105 in 1912. If we can surpass that, it will be the best season in the history of this very historied team.

Do you think we can get there? And also, do you want it to be a focus of team effort to get there or are you more concerned about the playoffs?

To get to 106, they have to go 8-10. I don't think it's an either/or. Really the question should be asked once the magic number is exhausted.

The playoffs are the only thing that matters to me. Regular season W-L records are quite irrelevant except for getting you into the playoffs.

Yes, the team can absolutely get there.

No, I don't think that getting there should be any part of the team's focus. If it happens (it will), then great, but don't play for that goal.

No reason that they can't keep winning while getting things in line for the playoffs.

Slumping into the playoffs would not be a healthy sign.

I would agree.

While it's nice to have a great regular season, it rings hollow if you don't win it all.

Cleveland went 111--43 back in the 1950s but the Giants swept them in the World Series.

At least they broke up the string of pennants by the Evil Empire. If the Guardians had not won the AL that season, the Stankees would have won 10 straight pennants from 1949-1958.

As it was, New York went 103-51 that season to finish second. The Whiite Sox were 94-60 and ended up a very distant 3rd.

I think the number of season wins is not that important, but I do think what that number reflects is important. There is a kind of invincibility for this 2018 team, which I think all its members can stand behind, esp since it's the exact reverse of last year with many of the same players on stage. I think it's a proud moment in itself, regardless of the post season.

Yeah, I was going to add that but forgot. 111 wins in an AL with the Yanks and Sox is no small feat.

It seems like for some reason some teams find a way to win while other teams find a way to lose.

I've seen the Sox capitalize on a break to win this year just like I've seen teams commit an error to lose. It can be a strange game. Random, almost.

The thing that correlates best with post season wins is regular season wins. So, the # of wins does mean something in that regard. Not a lot, as the postseason is still largely a crapshoot, but it means something.

It helps get home field, but it really doesn’t mean anything else.

Some of the winningest teams in MLB history had very bad postseasons to follow...

I think we get to 106 easy. Likely 108.

BUT, I think Cora does it carefully, & never over-taxing anyone on the team. Most of all, Sale, Price, & Bordello (oh what the hell... why correct this auto-correct / typo?) I would not pitch any one of these guys more than 7 innings at any cost. Certainly, 90 pitches would be my max. Same for E-Rod.

Plenty of rest for our starters also. Tell every player, "play hard, but play smart! NO heroics that could result in injury." Keep them sharp and focused. Loose but careful. LOL :0. You figure that one out.

It's all about the post-season now.

Maybe other than Xander and Betts, does anyone else need rest?

162 games is a lot of wear and tear. im sure all the "regulars" could use a blow and just sit & spit for a few games over the next dozen.

Quite a few guys got rest last night with our mainly lefty lineup. Betts, Bogaerts and JDM did play though.

I'm a bit worried that Sale needs to build up more innings before the playoffs begin.

He has at least 3 more starts to go. He'll be ready.

You just got banned by Youk. RIP

i just now saw his post in the other thread and thought to myself "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuddddgeeeee"

but then i remembered that 75% of the planet still considers that symbol to mean "pound".

so it's funny that most of the planet think women are saying "pound me too".

I heard someone on a talk show refer to the movement that way. He was a comedian, so it was tongue in cheek. Someone should have thought about this before they named the movement.

Sox have played 146 games. JDM has 137, Beni 135, JBJ 130, Mookie 126, and Bogie 124. Nunez 122, Moreland 114, and Devers 107. 46 MLB players have more games than JDM. Leon has caught the most games with 82--of the 12 "qualified" MLB catchers, the average games played is about 105 to 110 and the minimum 98.

We all know Cora has given guys breathers all season long. In fact, most have complained whenever so and so isn't in the lineup--"doesn't Cora want to win any games?"

I'm fine with whatever additional rest Cora wants to give, but I do not think this team is tired.

The 1912 team won 106 of 154, so I think this team needs to win 111 games to tie 1912. But, honestly, at this point I'm just delighted with the whole season and focused now on the postseason.

Thus Price last night was huge. Wright last night and a couple games or so ago, also huge. Kelly still worrisome. Devers worrisome (but Cora has options). Catcher hitting worrisome (but Swihart helps there). Barnes worrisome, but not Poyner or Brasier or Kimbrel. . Sale definitely worrisome. Will that shoulder hold up or not? injuries to any of several guys, but especially to JDM, Betts, Bogey, or Beni--would be worrisome.
