If I say something like he reminds me of Valentin someone immediately points out the fallacy of my opinion.

How is that necessary? Why not just say, "how so Pete?"

Did I say that the two had similar stats? Did I say they were both close friends of Nomar?

I simply meant the two had a similar appearance.

cp176 obviously knew what I was TRYING to say.

I have no problem with MVP. He's a cool guy despite his obsession with Devers and Pedroia.

And I certainly have not problem with you, either, Bell.

"Now f*** off. I got work to do."

Sammy Davis Jr. used to remind me of my Uncle Sonny. When I would say that, no one barked at me that Uncle Sonny couldn't sing or dance, never mind the more obvious physical difference. Most people asked me how Sammy reminded me of Uncle Sonny. I get what you are saying. Once in a while we should be able to just express an opinion without it being challenged as wrong.

You don't get my quote?

It was for Bells benefit. He knows what it means.

He's just continuing the last word joke.

I hope Dave knows the lack of signings are causing much crankiness down here at TS!

It's pretty disrespectful of DD to do this since we are basically the FO's think tank.

DD could at least sign Buchholz to a minor league contract or something, for Christ's sake. :P

Lol.

That will help sell the new stadium in Pawtucket!!!!

A think tank which has brought the ungrateful sod two 93 win seasons no-less!

Since TalkSox was born: 3 WS championships. They hadn't had any in over 80 years until we came along.

How many pitchers have hurt themselves running the bases? With pitching so important why would you do it?

Pitchers run the bases every day

The real question was - why Wright? Hr had Drew Pomeranz who had filled that very role earlier that year in San Diego. .

Posted

I've said it 100 times, but I'll say it again. Blaming Farrell for Wright's injury is just silly.

That would be like blaming Dombrowski for Swihart's injury.

Posted

It's just a silly way to trash Farrell. Wright wanted to pinchrun and using pitchers as pinch runners is a very common tactic in the NL.

But all this "ruined Wright's career" is so overboard. Wright was like 32 years old at the time and in the middle of his only good season. He wasn't some blossoming prospect where the sky was the limit...

He had thrown a complete game shutout the night before and was putting up All Star numbers and he hadn’t run the bases since high school. He didn’t ask to pinch run. Talking about how he hadn’t run the bases since High School (more than 10 years prior) indicates that he was pretty surprised by Farrell’s decision. It was an idiotic decision as Wright was going to go base to base just like Ortiz, who at least knows how to slide etc. Farrell didn’t intentionally ruin Wright’s career, but he put a guy out there to do a job in which he had no experience or skill. The decision was fraught with downside.

Common sense.

Like I said, Pomeranz was the better choice from an experience standpoint. I'd be surprised if Wright was chosen solely because he pitched the night before and therefore would be unavailable to pitch anyway...

@redsoxstats

Dombrowski people are mistaken saying there window to win, there is a window to win with the current group, and that is the same for every team. Thinks the Sox foundation is good.

Certainly the hopes and projections of the prospects DD inhertited were better than those we have now.

Our best hopes are...

Sam Travis seemlessly takes over for HRam at 1B next year, adn we can let Moreland go via trade or after his 2-year deal runs out.

Devers becomes a major force, so we will not feel so badly about losing Bogey or JBJ.

Beni becomes a major force, so we no longer have to worry about losing Bogey or JBJ. (If both Devers & Beni become great, we may even be able to stay good without Betts.

ERod becomes the pitcher we all have hoped he'd become, so maybe we can get by without paying Pom to stay.

Johnson or Wright step up to be fine 5th starters that are reliable.

Groome fills in when we lose Porcello.

Maybe Brannen or Scherff rise to the top. Mata is too far away to hope for any help from him in the next 3 years.

Certainly, a few of these hopes can become reality, but we'll probably need more to come true than is reasonable to expect.

Schreff and groome have the stuff to become top of the rotation starters. Can they develop the control and secondary pitches necessary to achieve that lofty status?

The Rays develop starting pitchers so why can't we. Groome is the obvious possibility and lets see if he can make the jump within the next two years.

He said we have a flimsy foundation and admitted that having all these good things happen is unrealistic. Not really reading, are you?
