Inanimate objects, like bats, are more interesting than Cora. Hell, lawn chairs are more interesting than Cora.

Has his team given up on him this year? They sure are playing like it,

I don't know whose fault it is but the team with the highest payroll in the majors is now without a major portion of that lineup. Think who are not able to play.

Panda and Pedroia to start. Pearce and Nunez pay still on the roll. Then Sale, Price, Betts, JDM. There are others like Chavis and Hembree who haven't been with the team. Easy to see $140 mil not available and then others who are in deep slumps.

Is cora responsible? He is manager, so he has to accept part of the blame but is it fair for him to shoulder it all?

No, it's not fair.

You're one of the truly sensible posters on the forum, so your opinion on Cora means something.

Heads, he gets fired. Tails, he has to resign.

Cora and Trump will both be around until 2024. Hopefully your head doesn't explode by then.

Easy for you to say. You're Canadian and don't have to put up with him. Cora's value does get a 30% discount in Canada, right? :)

Not exactly so. A lot of Canadians are heavily into US politics (including my wife). Plus what you guys do has a lot of impact on us. We're like your little brother.

Well, build a wall and keep us out...

I thought this thread was premature when it first appeared, but I was wrong.

I think Cora will be qualified to write a book, "How to mismanage major league pitching staff"

likely true based on the potential candidates to replace either.

Another loss to the Rays and a question comes to mind. Are we putting our best available team on the field in these games or are we using a pecentage ouf our best team, and if so why?

Cora had often thinned his team down during the season after stating certain players needed rest on those occasions. I am not arguing with whether it is the best course, but I do think his mind set was to rest players regularly. My contention is that by doing so, some games we lost by a small amount might have been won with our strongest team on that particular night. On the other hand, maybe his resting strategy did result in wins on other occasions.

I'm not sure who was available tonight but Cora used Owings, Gorky Hernandez and Leon to make up the bottom of the order and none of them hit. Just seemed to me like handicapping the chances of succeeding. The margin between winning and losing is small against our better opponents. Is it sensible to reduce our chances of winning with Cora's approach?

The season is over now so it doesn't really matter that much?

i think it matters to Cleveland.

listen, i get it...we are out of it this year. but any game we play that could aeffect the postseason we should be playing full tilt to win. and this doesnt mean we have to manage it like its a game 7 but we should be managing it like its a regular season game with our best available lineup. integrity. seems this whole country has forgotten what that word means the last couple years. Sad!

Unless you're competing against your lover (or would-be lover), your friend with Parkinson's, or an 11-year-old, you try to win, no? That's more or less the convention of sports. Especially, I would guess, when you are asking people to pay to witness it.

There have been moves made within the organization to promote people into staff positions in addition to keeping Cora. That suggests the new GM will be an interanl promotion since it would be hard for a new GM to come into a situation where he had no say about his underlings. I wonder if it is the best strategy, since unless DD completely dominated this past year, some of the remaining people were involved in the failure we just experienced. I'll wait and see what happens before rushing to judgment.

To the best of my knowledge the Red Sox did try to win the games in this series. They won one of them and the losses were by 1 run twice in extra innings and 3 runs once. They didn't hand the games to the Rays.

I also believe that the players that were rested were ones who were 'banged up', generally speaking.

leon, owings & Gorkys in the lineup together is not putting your best effort out there to try to win a game. its just not.
