It's almost like people dislike other people for a variety of reasons!

To me, JBJ calling out Eck was s***** an immature. Price doing the same was s***** and immature. However, I expect that from pampered ballplayers. My real anger was directed towards John Farrell allowing that behavior to continue.

My favorite players are ...

1) Betts

2) Sale

3) Devers

4) JBJ

My least favorites (not that i hate them):

1) HRam

2) Price

3) Holt

4) Pedey

I'm sure someone will think "WOW" to this.

It was a terrible misstep by Pedroia when he did that. It could not have sat well with the rest of the team or with the coaches or manager.

I liked Pedey before that incident.

His constant injuries, though not his fault, have frustrated me to the point of not really fully enjoying his presence on the team.

How does the new manager put this fractured team back together again?

Pedroia has not apologized as far as we know. Pedroia is not a team leader. Pedroia is not a high character guy in the locker room.

He's just a Lunch pail kind of guy who plays hard.

Really can't see him ever being rallying point for this team. Instead he is just a guy on the bus that someone else has to drive around.

Of course there's no actual evidence of a 'fractured' clubhouse. But we all know how much fun it can be playing guessy-guessy.

Wow! I disagree with you in regards to JBJ. I think he would be best to trade now. I also love Pedey, but recognize he is on the downslide due to his injuries and the wear and tear of all those great years. I would prefer that we could find a top notch 2nd baseman and see it as a second priority behind finding a top not 1st/3rd baseman, depending on where we go with Devers. The problem is that Pedey is on the roster with a $13 mil salary for next year and on.

These are not lists of our best players or our top keepers vs. our worst and most trade-able players. They are lists of my favorite players and least favorite players.

I've always been very high on JBJ- perhaps to a fault. I'm a huge fan of up-the-middle defense, and JBJ makes it look easy. I like the way he looks at the plate, but his results have been more cold than hot. I'm hopeful he can have more hot stretches going forward or become more consistent, but he's at an age now where the doubt is getting to the tipping point. I realize he has already passed the point for many posters. I've seen the stats that show he's basically had 3 great months over his whole caree, and the rest have been between horrific and bad. I have great concern for his offensive future. That doesn't stop me from rooting for him and keeping him as one of my favorites, despite the frustration.

The Machado-Pedey incident turned me cold towards Pedey. Add the yearly frustrations dealing with his never-ending injuries, and he made my bottom list. It's not a "hate list". It's just the list of players I'm not a big fan of. I'm a fan of every Sox fan, but these are my least favorites. I never hope they fail.

Pedey’s knee is a long time issue. I think he needs to get the knee fixed, and don’t play until he is ready. I can’t see doing a whole season what they did with him the last two months of the season. That probably means at minimum no 2018 season, and then you have to think can he return at his age if he misses a whole season? That means 2B becomes another hole that needs to be looked at.

I'm surprised they are not looking for our next, long term. second basemen.. It is obvious the mult-thousand belly flops have taken their toll. Edited by bosoxmal

The talk about Chavis is that he is more likely to wind up at 2nd base than 3rd with his frame. 5'10" 210#s. If he does well in Arizona, maybe he can be looked at as a replacement with power.

I'd like to hear what our scouts and personnel people say about the idea.

It could solve a big problem for very little money.

I absolutely hope pedroia has enough sense to get the knee operated on and come back in June or July as healthy as the banana boy can be.

I would love for chavis to step up and win the second base job out of spring training.

I hope we do not spend one dime on resigning Nunez unless he gets his pcl operated on!

What is the diagnosis for Pedroia's knee? If it is cartilage and not reconstruction, he should be ready for spring Training.

I think I read somewhere, he will not be getting surgery and will have to play through "it" next year and perhaps beyond.

Not sure that helps answer your question.

Price seems to be getting a lot of bad PR, largely due to the whole Eckerslecy incident. (And because his injury kept him from contributing on the field, which seems to forgive a lot with many fans.)

However we all feel about Price in that incident, what was always omitted by the media was that Eckersley had clearly rubbed a lot of players on the Sox the wrong way. The entire team applauded him for it.

But because Eck was a former Sox great and Hall of Famer, Price becomes the object of scorn among fans. Had Price lashed out against someone like Massarotti or Shaughnessy in that same fashion, would anyone feel the same about him?

Here we go blaming the victim again. Price was completely wrong, end of story. He also called Farrell "Manager John," played operation shutdown with the media.... He's a douchebag with a fragile ego. It's rather alarming, especially if he has influence in the clubhouse.

So if Price had done that to Shaughnessy or Massarotti, you'd feel the same?

You should. It doesn't change his actions. But the question is, what should fans actually think about the incident?

Personally I'm just tired of it and would love not to hear about it any more.

From a PR standpoint at least, Price & Farrell should have realized they were dealing with a very popular figure and apologized.

Now let's just move on from it.

Good points. Price was on my list before "the incident". I think the whole thing was blown up for media effect.

The Pedey "incident" bothered me more, but even that was blown up.

The only injury that I can possibly think of that could cause pedroia to drag the leg around for most of the season and not require surgery is a torn mcl.

Great now we get to watch pedroia hurt the team again next year by trying to play through a hurt leg.

Hopefully the new manger has the guts to stamp "fragile" on pedroia's forehead and put him on the dl with all the other broke down sunsetters before he costs us games,

I am unaware of any diagnosis that has been made public. I don't have a lot of faith that our medical staff is doing the right thing.

I made a comment similar to this a few months ago. Having given it some further thought, I would say that Price would definitely get more latitude for being abusive toward TM or DS, but he wouldn't necessarily get a free pass to say and do whatever he wanted. It would all depend on the circumstances. TM and DS are human beings too (LOL).

Price was wrong, no doubt about it. But at this point, I think most of the fans have moved on. The wronged party, Eck, seems to have moved on. The only people keeping it going is the media itself. I assume CHB yaks about it; I refuse to read him so I don't know for sure. Steve Buckley at the Herald can't seem to write a Red Sox related column without mentioning it. Others raise it from time to time. But it's been that way for forever by the "knights of the keyboard". a.k.a. the "nattering nabobs of negativism".

Ain't that the truth. And Shaughnessy is a consummate knight of the keyboard. (Love that expression.)

Well, they need SOMETHING to write about.

Fans are more of the put up or shut up mentality. Price pitching well in the playoffs overshadows the Eck controversy to most fans imo.

Amen to that.
