If Johnson wasn't injured, he'd get a longer look here. Maybe Beeks?

So the Orioles - who are not even in any sort of post-season hunt - manage to acquire Jeremy Hellickson for a bench bat and farm scrap? Meanwhile Dombrowski places Price on the DL and tells fans to expect more from Doug Fister and Hector Velasquez.

Seriously?

Jeremy Hellickson is f***ing terrible.

The way I sense things right now, I think perhaps we should make a quick switch to Sellers. Price, Hanley, Holt, Young come to mind.

I know one thing: this is not a World Series team--except by pure accident. So why not "wait till next year" and a clean slate.

We look pathetic right now, but we will still very likely be playing October baseball. It will get better.

The problem with a big trade for a bat is that unless our mainstays start hitting we're screwed anyway. We've got too many guys underperforming.

Bingo!

I would have included Groome in a heart beat. No way to know what he will turn into, and Mous. is the vet power bat we desperately need right now. Look at the Pom for Espinosa trade, the 18 year old (the next Pedro) will be getting Tommy John surgery which sucks. Point if you think obtaining a vet hitter will help turn the offense around for a playoff push, you have to do it. If not stand pat. I don't for one over valuate minor league players based on potential. When they get closer to the show and have some track record, thats different... And I'm not talking about trading Bagwell for Larry Anderson Either. With the pitching staff we have, it would be a shame to bow out fast this year because of the hitting, but unless we catch fire, its looking like these guys will do just that. I hope not.. The Yanks see a glimmer of hope and are pulling out all the stops to make a run this year. Right now, they just took first from us because we can't hit. Whats your answer.................

I think it would be almost impossible to get a team to trade one of its star players at the end of May. Not with the 2nd wildcard in play.

Kimmi, I respect your opinion, but we have been the worst team in baseball since the all star break and have done little to improve in that time. I don't see us moving to October ball and don't see the worth of any moves now unless they are to fortify the team going forward. Keep our best foundation players and look for ways to improve for follow on years. Also look to resolve the problems that led to our collapse last year and are being repeated again this year.

"Since the All Star break" is a two week timeframe. Yet somehow right now those two weeks are more important than the three months that preceded them? And, in contrast to your statement, the Sox traded for Nunez since then, making it the only stretch this year in which the Sox have attempted to improve from outside the organization. (Unless you think Fister was an improvement, which is debatable. )

What collapse last year? Losing three games to the AL champion should never be labeled a "collapse."

The Sox were swept by the Yankees, lost two of three to the Blue Jays to set the stage of being swept by Cleveland. Thats is losing 8 of 9 which I considered a collapse at the time. Poor pitching and hitting in that stretch. Nunez was a good move and Fister was not.

till only a 9 game stretch. Even the 1927 Yankees had rough weeks.

Speaking of the Yankees, watch out. It looks like they get Sonny Gray for a 19 year old center fielder. Gray is signed through 2019 and is on a roll right now. This addresses the only Yankee weakness: its starting rotation.

Gray has been pulled from his start tomorrow so a deal is very close or done.

The A's used to be the Yankees major league farm team. If NY had a kid they wanted to get some seasoning, they would trade him to the KC Athletics for a veteran who could help NY out now. After a couple of years, if the kid proved himself, he would be traded back to the Yanks for either another kid or a spare part.

I have this nagging feeling that Brian Cashman is about to eat DD's lunch before the trading deadline passes.

Same. Nagging feeling the Yanks get Gray and we only get the blues.

Well don't the Yankees have a better farm system than us right that they can afford to give up some of these prospects.

Me too.

I wonder what moves Wild Card contenders are making?

It seems that the Sox will be competing with those teams for the post season.

The Garcia trade may mean that the Sonny Gray trade has hit a snag, although the Yanks say that talks are still open and active.

The signing of both, in lieu of our standing pat, would, I think, give the Yanks the division. Given his incredible pen, Giardi would only need 5 innings and 2 runs from his starters to seal win after win.

I wish we were in a position to sign Gray--and one more hitter.

Or we will get A.Reed from the Mets for Groome and Chavis. Our general manager, with the $400.00 hair cut, would absolutely jump at that deal.
