If Bogaerts keeps hitting like he's been hitting, I'm okay with the lack of home runs.

Will you kick me out of the gang, if I say Bogey should be batting 2nd? (Or at least first not 3rd?)

And we scored all those runs with hitting only one home run.

if you keep generating baserunners - at some point you will sequence them correctly

Is this the Beni and the Betts gang you speak of?

We all hope this pace continues I'm sure. If this is a contest to see who is right, those of us who still think that we still need more power in that lineup (which includes me - maybe only me), sure hope that we are wrong.

I doubt Beni or Betts would complain about this...

1) Beni

2) Bogey

3) Betts

4) HRam

5) Pedey v R/Young v L

6) Moreland v R/ Pedey v L

7) JBJ

8) Leon v R/ Vaz v L

9) Marrero

I'd switch Beni and Bogey.

No issue there. The way Beni has been running into outs, maybe Bogey up first is better. Plus, Beni has shown more power.

More home runs, yes, but Bogaerts has more extra base hits in fewer at bats, and his SLG is 46 points higher.

I know I may be venturing into that minefield without statistical correlation again, but IMO there's something to be said for a player's hitting where he's comfortable. To take a player who sees himself as a power hitter and placing him at the top of the order may be counterproductive, just as taking someone who sees himself as a singles hitter and forcing him to hit 4th may be also.

Someone said (above) that JBJ seems to hit better out of the 9th spot. Maybe it's the best thing for the team to put him there and leave him there rather than trying to force a square peg into a round spot in the order.

I endorse this 100%.....

I'm fine with Beni 1st and Bogey 2nd. That was my line-up choice all winter and still is now.

I'm okay with them flipped as well. While Bogey may have a better SLG%, he's also better at getting on base by about the same as he's better in slugging.

Hanley to DH the Rest of the Year

MLBTR by Jeff Todd

The Red Sox won’t count on Hanley Ramirez being capable of playing first base again this year, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told reporters including Tim Britton of the Providence Journal. Shoulder troubles have persisted for the veteran, relegating him to DH duties. “The potential negatives of him going out and [playing first], at this point don’t outweigh the positives that we get from having his bat in as our DH,” Dombrowski explained. “We just have to maneuver around it.” For the time being, at least, rookie Sam Travis is up to provide a right-handed-hitting option at first along side lefty Mitch Moreland.

The Red Sox have halted rehab work for utilityman Brock Holt, as Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe was among those to report on Twitter. Holt was advised “to shut down from playing for the foreseeaable future” by a head trauma specialist, per the report.

I like him at DH but this is ********.

Either that, or he is a giant pussy.

Ha. I actually agree with you that Bogaerts should not be batting 3rd, but I think for different reasons. :)

I love this post. It's short, yet it drives home the point.

Could a, would a, should a...

Can you please stop using Holt's head issues as a reason to keep saying we should have traded him? Leaving aside the fact it's ridiculous, have some decorum man.

It's not a contest to see who is right. I am just posting something to back up my point, which is what we do here.

Home runs are nice to have. Very nice to have, actually. But they can be overvalued in terms of run production.

The stat geeks have said that batting line ups make such little difference that a manager is likely better off putting hitters where they feel most comfortable.

I'm with Moon on this.

1) I have no doubt he's a great guy. And baseball and health are two different issures. HE NEEDS TO QUIT PLAYING COMPLETELY UNTIL HE'S FULLY RECOVERED. I read that he's still going to take BP, infield, etc. Just not play competitively. I believe that's ********. He needs to get better. You can't f*** around with head injury. I don't think anyone wants Holt to be suffering. Just get him well. Jesus, he's still a young kid. His long term health is more important than anything else. The lights, the noise during games, none of that can be good for his recovery.

2) I just think he's a mediocre player. Just because he can play 1B doesn't mean I want him as Sox 1B. Sam Travis is better. Just because he can play OF doesn't mean I want him in OF. He's not the 2nd option, long term at any position. Geez I like the guy. We are strictly talking about baseball talent.
