But at least one evaluator who saw him recently walked away convinced that Devers won’t be able to hold down the position in the big leagues because of his size and condition. If this turns out to be true -- and he’s a young player, capable of change -- it could impact Boston’s planning.

People have been saying that all along. His defense is only getting better though. If he has a franchise bat, moving him off of 3B won't matter.

Exactly.

Anyone who's been remotely paying attention to Devers knows there has always been that slight chance he could better suited as a 1B over time. Slight because he's improved at 3B defense so much it's barely an opinion anymore. This sounds like old data to me. And as far as his size? Size doesn't really play up as much at 3B than it does at SS or 2B, if ever. He'll be 21 in late Oct., 6'-0" 195lbs... I don't see him having another growth spurt. I don't see any problem with being 6ft, 200lbs. That height to weight ratio is pretty f***ing average in sports. Maybe a bit below average. Is that ONE evaluator saying he's too small to play 3B?

For what it's worth, I thought the comparison was odd.

But you thought you'd post it here anyway, huh? :)

Harmony gets way too much s*** around here. I don't think he's always trying to stir the pot.

If I had seen that nonsense, I would have posted it too.

I found the comparison interesting because of its oddness.

I am reminded of a quote attributed (or misattributed) to George Orwell: Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed; everything else is public relations.

link or post what he said?

thanks.

it was just a recap of yesterday's game from my regular "Official site of the Boston Red Sox" site. For many of us who post here I think that I can say that he sounds like our kind of guy. No ********! No over analysis - no blame to teammates if you can't do your job kind of player. I think he is seriously the real deal.

Shaw is now on paternity leave. All you weirdos that give people s*** for going on leave can now stop complaining about the trade as he's not man enough to play for your team.

Chris Sale appears to me to be a bit of an old soul when it comes to athletics these days. My idea of tough and gritty. When he speaks, i think that I am going to listen. For all of you Pedroia lovers, Sale has already shown more leadership talent than "Pedey" has in a career. My point is that Sale's latest comments about how he feels about the Panda work for me. Sounds to me like Pablo must be a decent teammate. Regardless of how he has played, he is still our best hope at third. Yard him out there and leave him alone.

I like this tweet about Sale's comments:

What's the opposite of throwing a teammate under the bus? Whatever it is, that's what Chris Sale just did. Blamed himself, praised Sandoval.

I disagree with you about Pedroia's lack of leadership, but I 100% agree with you about Sale. I have been very impressed with how he owns up to his less than stellar performances and how he's all about the team. I like what he has to say.

It's hard to believe that this is the same guy who cut up the throwback uniforms. LOL

I have no problem with Harmony.

It just goes to show you how people often read into things ideas that just aren't true.

I've never heard any player or coach diss Sale.

The uniform incident should never have been used to judge Sale as a clubhouse question mark or possible cancer element.

Rafael Devers has more HR's in fewer AB's than Beni had in AA and his OPS is higher. Not sure what they are waiting on at this point unless they are giving Pablo until the AS Break.

Sounds about right.

Selfishly, I wouldn't mind seeing Devers for a few weeks in AAA.

Agreed, but maybe there's a logical explanation why he is still in AA.

He is actually ahead of Benintendi. At the same age (20), Beni had played 2 years of SEC baseball and was in A and A+ ball. He started his age 21 season at A+ Carolina before heading to Portland and then Boston.

And there may very well be something he needs to work on that professional scouts see and the average fan does not.

Plouffe isn't very good, but he's probably better than we currently have, so might as well take a chance. I am completely against giving up anything at all of value for him though.

I can't see throwing any more assets at the 3rd base problem.

Stay the course with what we have for now.

If the Sox insist on making a move at 3rd I hope that they only spend money and not much of it.

Peralta and Plouffe were both DFA, so they should't cost much of anything at all, so might as well take a chance on at least one of them, its low risk.

To piggy back off of something you posted a couple days ago, the Sox are 17-11 when Pablo plays (.607 win %) and 15-10 when he starts (.600 win %). They are 20-17 when Pablo doesn't play (.540 win %).

Coincidence? I think not!

Yes, coincidence. He stinks.
