I tend to agree.

The guy has damaged his brain. Maybe it repairs itself, maybe it won't.

He needs to check out the TB12 sport drink that fights concussions.

I thought I heard that part of it was lasting effects from that really bad flu that went around the clubhouse early in the season.

I don't understand why anyone would consider giving up anything in a trade for a minor upgrade at third until they really have given Devers a shot. We are getting by.

I see it the other way around...why not throw some s*** against the wall for the next few weeks and see if anything sticks, see whether a Moustakas or Frazier can be had closer to the deadline at a reasonable price, and if all else fails, call up Devers (who ideally will have gotten some Triple-A experience in the meantime) sometime in late July/early August the way Benintendi was last year?

Expecting a 20-year-old with half a season of experience above A-ball to come straight up to the majors and hold down the third base position competently for the rest of the year strikes me as wildly optimistic and a step to be taken after all other options have been explored, not before. I'm as hopeful about Devers' future as the next guy, but this is the first season that his production has really started to match his raw talent, and I'm pretty sure no one would simply be taking it for granted that he's major league ready if we had a halfway decent third baseman right now.

So what are you giving up to sign one of those guys? Doubt if you get Moustakas for nothing. You sign him, where does that leave the potential time table for Devers? Our third base situation looks pathetic right now, but we continue to get by.

GM's on other teams aren't stupid. They see another team for a big need at a certain position, see that their Minor Leaguers are a couple of years away, they will ask for a lot.....at this moment. Longer you wait you could get someone decent, for a salary dump, or FA's to be, or teams that feel they might want to bring their kids up at July 31, might not cost you so much.

Patience, at this point, I know it stinks, but with all the injuries on this team this year, were in 1st, I'm really shocked. Doing OK.

You certainly won't get him for nothing, but if the price isn't too exorbitant (keeping in mind he'd just be a rental), I'd consider pulling the trigger. If he or some other option doesn't work out, then you move on to Devers.

Moustakas is a free agent after this season, so Devers would still be free to take over third base sometime next year, if not Opening Day.

True.

We're getting by AND we're in 1st place. This is why we shouldn't be panicking to get a 3B. I don't like the guys we're running out at 3B day after day either, but the good news is that they only come up to bat every 9th time and (theoretically) only every 8th ball put in play is hit to them. So we stumble by with what we've got until we either have the right answer or we start to fall in the standings.

I might go after Moustakas myself to be honest with you. But I would do it with every intention of signing him up for a few years. Devers would most likely be gone though. I hear you loud and clear about the need to upgrade pretty soon. i just don't want to see us shoot ourselves in the foot in the process.

I think that it would make a great talksox story though if Devers was packaged up and traded for Moustakas and then Moustakas was signed for 3 or 4 years to play third base for us. Oh boy oh boy - Lets go trader DD!

I definitely agree. I think all options should be considered between now and the deadline, but things are hardly so dire right now that we need to rush into something hasty and dumb.

Thumbs down!!!

You can get by at 3rd base, but you need exceptional Defense. Left side of the infield for me starts with Defense. You get Offense there, you got something Special. We do X-Man.

I don't see Moose signing ahead of going to free agency. If it happened, it would solve our 3B problem for a few years, but I don't see it happening.

Interesting enough the Sox best prospect is a 3B in Rafael Devers. He's also a blue chipper that regarded about as high as guys like Betts/Bogaerts/Moncada in recent years.

Sox don't look to rush him and screw up his development, so the question becomes do you want to waste what little assets you have left to trade for a rental when you have Devers coming up right behind?

Not sure I have the silver bullet to that problem. It looks like we have the solution long term but no solution immediately, and DD has given this team a 3 year window so we need a quicker solution.

Which is why you don't bother trading for him. If you want him, just sign him in the offseason.

If the rental price is low enough, I would consider it.

And that's the issue. The trade won't be worth it to me.
I think their price will be high for a rental. The Royals are not completely out out of the WC hunt, and trading a fan favorite would send a very bad message to their fans unless they get a nice return.

Does Moose have the right to veto a a trade? I don't know. Maybe someone here does know.

Moose says he wants to remain in KC and hopefully finish his career there. Maybe it camouflage or maybe he is being honest.

Should have re-signed Beltre.

The rental price for Moustakas won't be cheap.

Not to mention the fact that he is pretty good baseball player. If the Sox go after Moose, my guess would be that they aren't really thinking about the progression of Devers going forward. He isn't the guy you go after to fill in for a minor leaguer that you hope might be good someday. He would be our third baseman.

Tell you kid I'm worried losing is Chavis, he's starting to get it. Has tremendous Power. I think he just got promoted too. Dombrowski will see 2, 3rd Baseman and Trade 1, instead of moving him to another Position. Minors is the time to do it. Maybe Devers is getting promoted too. Edited by OH FOY!

Chavis can't play 3rd though.

Another position, that's why they are in the Minors. Most important time to evaluate maybe weak at one but strong in another.
