Oh come on debbie downer, lots of athletes get sidetracked by knee injuries and come back the next year and are perfectly fine. It happened to Tek in 2006, and the next year he was back at an All Star level, and Tek was a lot older than Beni at the time..

teks game wasnt built on speed. but i agree with your assessment of me on this one...i am big time downer on beni now. :(

We don't even know if there's ANY permanent damage.

If he has any kind of surgery, then I'll worry, but we won't even know if there will be surgery for awhile, possibly some weeks. If this can just be rehabbed out, (and with a sprain this is very possible) he should bounce back like nothing happened.

true we dont know anything other than what we saw on tv a couple nights ago. and IMO what i saw was the end of a promising career. again...IMO. i hope im wrong. but right now if Slasher is in the FO of the Boston Red Sox - I am immediately giving Moncada reps in the OF and praying the Butterball can make a comeback at 3b in 2017...

They are going to close off the Tobin before announcing the extent of the damage. :( Edited by mvp 78

THen I'm glad Slasher is not the GM. There will be plenty of ways to redress this problem without going and doing something that drastic. You have at least until the first month of next season, if you make any move before then it will be decidedly premature. And there are plenty of pro grade LF's one can pick up in the offseason if it does become clear that AB won't be ready to go this Spring -- and in the worst case scenario we're a contender with Brock Holt everyday in left so that should be born in mind too.

He's a great player. I'd hate to lose him. I'd be really broken up about this if I actually thought we had.

If any of us were the GM, it would be the worst run organization in MLB. It'd still be better than the Jets, Lions, Cowboys, Browns, Maple Leafs and Sac Kings though.

Yaz would've played through it.....

You are right. He would have. LOL!! Tape it up and go out there. He was on the DL once --torn knee cartilage -- no surgery, just rest.

Also would've drank a six pack of 'Gansett and ripped through a pack of smokes in the clubhouse afterwards.

He would run a mile before the game to loosen up the knee then smoke half a pack in the dugout during BP.

It's not Pedey's fault Beni forgot what they teach in Little League.

What's he running to third for on a ball hit right to the SS- right in his easy field of vision!

Leading off the bag and then a jump the wrong way when the ball was hit. Rookie mistake. It happens. Your right though...its not Pedeys faullt.

No structural damage so thats good news for the kid...hopefully back before the seasons out. Just Please dont frigging rush him back too early...

I don't blame Pedey for the injury to Beni but with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he should attempt to hit the ball to the right side. Easier said then done of course.

Latest news is he wont be able to start BB activities for a couple weeks, which will make it very difficult to get back before the end of the year. No minor league games will make it harder. At least its nothing major and we should have him for the playoffs, if we make it in...

one hopes there will be a chance for him to make some "rehab" starts at the major league level ... but that is dependent on the Sox doing their part

Getting him back for a playoff run will be very important. We can work him in slower and not have to thrust him into every game with Young available to us now. Were going to need that LH bat...

The clock is ticking. Maybe he can come back after the road trip.

Thanks very much for the update. I was wondering.

As much as I would love to see Benintendi back this year, I hope the Sox will be conservative because the combo of Holt/Young ain't that bad and Benintendi has many good seasons ahead of him.
