If you take away the three 2-run home runs, he didn't allow a run. So realistically he only made 3 bad pitches tonight!

He only made a few bad pitches. The batter almost knocked down the light bank on that one Homer. He needs to work on avoiding bad innings. ;)

@alexspeier 10 homers allowed by Buchholz with runners on base this year, most by any pitcher in the majors.

Just bad luck. This should normalize over the next 15-20 starts!

@redsoxstats 100 qualified starters. Buchholz's 5.91 FIP ranks 100th.

I'm was so wrong about picking up his option. 100 is good right? A+!

@jared_carrabis The Red Sox are 3-7 when Clay Buchholz pitches (.300), and 26-11 when he doesn't. They have a .703 winning percentage when he doesn't pitch.

@sean_mcadam Farrell said Buchholz's spot in rotation will be under discussion especially with Rodriguez ready but wasn't ready to announce decision.

So we can mark down those as 10-15 losses.......

Clay seems to have a good couple of innings in him. Before the walls are breached or after. If we could somehow dictate WHEN it was gonna happen we could certainly use him as a sorta long reliever (2 innings.....)

Clay Buchholz is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class that is in the shop half the time while Wade Miley is a Toyota Camry that requires only routine maintenance.

If given the choice, the Seattle Mariners chose the Camry.

I was under the impression that a Mercedes is a very good car. Still looking for evidence that Clay Bulhoz has been a very good pitcher.

Henry Owens: 3.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, 1 HR

Looks like he won't be back. His FB sat mid 80's. :(

Chalk up another Sox Pitching Prospect Bust.

well Farrell's decision has been made easy. kneE-Rod will most certainly be replacing Clay.

now what to do with Clay?

Bullpen?

trade? (no expectations of decent prospects in return)

waiver and pray it's picked up?

DFA?

I would try him in the pen.

Well despite the fact that E-Rod used to be an adventurer like you, we need him, and we need to figure out how to get buchholz out of his way somehow. I'm sure DD can come up with something.

Perhaps Buchholz is hiding an injury or isn't really all that healthy? He does have a track record of trying to pitch through injury. He does have a track record for pitching really well when he's 100%. We'll see how it all unfolds soon enough. With Buch or w/out Buch, I'd still like to see a trade for a TOTR SP go down. Although thats still a ways off.

I've been a big Clay supporter for a while (well...a mild Clay supporter) but I'm done with him. I hope he gets it together, I'm not going to hate him just because he has durability issues or because his velocity is down but he is hurting this team.

Hurry up EROD!!!!

I always took Buchholz for who he was. He was a TOTR starter when healthy but couldn't pitch a full season. He came close a few times but you could write him down for 15-28 starts with a D.L. stint somewhere.

The thing is, over the last couple years he hasn't even pitched like a TOTR starter when he has been healthy consistently and the time between his "good" stretches and him pitching bad have grown larger and larger.

Yes he still could turn it around I guess, but when you couple my last point with his age and dip in velocity it looks like he very well might be done. At the very least if the Sox aren't done with them you have to think they are close.

TJS wouldn't surprise me. He has some kind of precursor signs last season. And if that's the case then YES! His option would NOT be picked up : ) This would also be a No-Brainer. :)

He does seem to be able to get through the opponents batting order 1 time. The problem is, sometimes it's the first time through (last night) and sometimes it's the second time through (when 4-5 runs are already up on the scoreboard). And there's no pattern to that.

It's a The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim reference. Easy to tell in this thread who plays video games and who doesn't :P

It's a reference to an apparent epidemic of arrow-related knee injuries in Skryim that seems to explain why there are very few adventurers left, but a lot of guards. it's one of those lines that COMES. UP. ALL. THE. TIME... in the game, so it's kind of iconic,.

i'm currently hooked on SW Battlefront. but RBI 16 (with mookie on the cover) should be arriving via Amazon today......

Well his velocity was at 92-94 last night. Hes just not commanding his pitches. The cargo hr was a good hit...That one was out of the zone and in the dirt. He went and got it...the other two, as like most of them this year, left the yahd. Always seems to have runners on too..

He knows hes out of the rotation , at least for his next start. I imagine they will have to get somewhat creative because hes not hurt. Hes said a number of times its not physical, so a DL stint would be an obvious lie which isnt uncommon. He's out of options and he would waste a spot in the pen...

He needs to be traded if Erod is better, or figure out a way to get him to the DL and a few rehab starts...

I doubt his option is picked up for next year. Not sure why it would be at this point.

He looks and sounds defeated. I never like to see any ballplayer like that. Hope he can rebound, whether with the Sox or not, and have a decent backend of his career.

Skyrim's not an MMORPG though.
