Red Sox are reportedly interested in Beltran.

Lol.

I remember getting a PM from you about 5-6 years ago asking me what I thought of the Sox possibly getting Beltran!!!! I told you then that while he could clearly still hit, I did not trust his knees would allow him to play full time or for the entire season. Pass.

Now look at what is happening. Lol.

I was pretty sure that he was completely shot last season. You can never figure out this game.

Where's the Yankee troll that blasted me for saying they were going to be sellers this summer?

....Cue the sound of Crickets....

I must admit, the Yanks did pretty good rebuilding their farm.

For a 2+ month rental of Chapman, they got

#41 (BA) Gleyber Torres (#27 mid-season)

Rashad Crawford

Billy McKinney

For Andrew Miller (2.3 years remaining at $9M/yr), they got

#44 (BA) Clint Frazier (21 mid-season)

#81 (BA) Justus Sheffield (69 mid-season)

Ben Heller

JP Feyereisen

Wonder what they want for Beltran.

NY would be stupid not to get the best possible return for Beltran. Also, the guy is a playoff stud

So, how do you compare the trade of Miller, making less money than Kimbrel, to the trade for Kimbrel?

Posted

Wished the Sox would have been more aggressive when Miller was a FA prior to last season.

It's my hope that we move away from Koji. Got to know when to cut ties. Sox would overpay him naturally. That's how we roll.

FWIW, doesn't look like the Sale sweepstakes is off just yet:

Word is that the Rangers, Dodgers and Red Sox are three of the teams talking to the White Sox and three of the potential landing spots, maybe the main three potential landing spots — though at the moment it’s hard to tell if any of them has a great chance to land the five-time All-Star.

...

It’s been reported that the White Sox and Red Sox have heavily scouted each other, with speculation centering around young outfielder prospect Andrew Benintendi in strong farm system. Boston also has the Cuban star Yoan Moncada and 105-mph-throwing Michael Kopech, though word all along out of Boston has been that it is somewhat of a long shot.

They're similar. Guerra wasn't a top 100 when dealt, but jumped up to #34 mid season as he's shown progression. I like Frazier more than Margot for the simple fact that Frazier has power and Margot not so much. Asuaje and Allen were throw in pieces, but with Guerra making a leap, it's been good for the Pads.

NY got a true top talent in Frazier. 5 tools, will stay in CF if given the opportunity. Margot projects better defensively, but not offensively. Sheffield is a power lefty with the pedigree and performance at a young age to justify being the #2 piece in such a deal. Where the Deal could fall our way is how the final two pieces go. Heller and Feyereisen are power arms in the upper levels. If they carve out a niche in our pen and one becomes a back end reliever, then the deal becomes quite a steal

Huh? Guerra has sucked this year. What are you talking about?

On Baseball America's Mid-Season Prospect List: "Guerra’s 2016 season has been a disaster. He’s still ranked solely on the memory of the power and defense he showed in 2015"

Just f*cking cut him. This is where football gets it right and baseball needs to learn. Don't f*ckup a team just because you gave someone a terrible contract and they can't play. Cut his fat a**, eat the money, and move on. We have cheap options for 3B. There is no room on the roster for him so just get it over with. He doesn't deserve a roster spot.

By "baseball needs to learn," you mean the players' union has to completely give up what it has negotiated for and turn over power to the owners?

mvp, looks like I was ready an old release on him, lol

I only have noticed his fall because it seemed like Dombrowski sold really high on him, which is something he needs to do with all his prospects imo.

The sox need to focusing their attention on someone else besides sale. Maybe some bullpen help if they won't get another starter.

Marlins asked about Buchholz, but price was too high. I guess the Sox are looking for more than just an A guy. He pitched well yesterday. Maybe they think he'll provide good value for the rest of this season?

Seems like he's right in line to have his option picked up.

I think DD stand pad on pulling big trades. He has pretty much exhausted that were deemed expendable. Now we're left with a front loaded system headline by Moncada and Benintendi, perhaps two of the most coveted guys out there. I think they're off limits set by higher ups that outranks DD. The latter might get a call up to fill the hole in LF right now anytime. We know Holt best role is back on the bench.

We do need a reliever or two. This bullpen has a lot of mileage and injuries to it, definitely a concern.

I'm not sure anyone outranks Dombrowski at this point. Henry used to say "Larry Lucchino runs the Red Sox." My guess is that Dombrowski has full autonomy, but will listen to his scouts and others on his staff.

If Buch is capable of being an effective reliever, then he'll have value down the stretch, either to us or someone else.

No reason to give him away.

Posted
Dombrowski has absolute authority over baseball ops, and it's written into his contract. This is common knowledge. If they're set off limits, he set them off limits.
Posted

We've already spent a lot of resources, I'm done sending top prospects for relief pitchers and rentals. This team should go big or wait until the offseason.

Sale or no sale.

If Dombrowski does not pick up another pitcher, starter or reliever, then we need Buchholz. Our rotation depth is very thin, and there are inning concerns with both Wright and Pomeranz.

Maybe Buchholz has found his niche in the BP? He deserves a lot of credit for the job he did last night.

These Sale rumors won't die...

@BNightengale

The Boston #RedSox had late-night talks with the #WhiteSox about Chris Sale. If Sale is moved, #RedSox and #Dodgers are likely destinations.

I will be so glad when this deadline passes.

I hate this time of the year.

It's the second most wonderful time of the year... If there were MLB inflatables, house lights and decorations, I'd have some sitting in my front yard.

I'm glad they are at least trying to kick the tires and stay on the phone with the ChiSox.

Would have been helpful if they did the same with Josh Donaldson two years ago...

No, the rumors and speculation do not die. This is what drives me crazy. I was better off before Twitter, when I didn't hear about a move until after it was done.

Definitely. I don't think Dave D. is one to be caught napping like that.
