Pom is hurt.

Unfortunately, Moon is correct. Pomeranz isn't pitching in the post season so we're stuck with Price.

Just hope he's not pitching in any "must win" games.

yup. i just saw this in the other thread.

3 man playoff rotation?

Price is one of the 10 best starters in the AL. He's an ace. He's just not 2000 Pedro. Temper your expectations a bit.

MVP...i think you and i have a differing opinion on what an "ace" is.

to me:

an "ace" never is the one to end a winning streak

an "ace" doesnt poop the bed when he is pitching the division clinching game. he finds a way to win or at least pitch a QS.

what is your idea of an "ace"? someone that simply has top 10 peripherals?

A 4.00 ERA is a great 4th starter in MLB.

OK. so does DD allow his $217MM investment to be the #4 starter in the playoff roster?

or shall i expect to see him on Friday in Game #2 ALDS?

Just remember kids, ERA is only a valuable tool if it suits your argument!

or you could read my post above where i dont even mention ERA. but feel free to take shots.

you know...this one..why dont you answer the question?

So Pedro/Lester/Roger never ended a winning streak in their times with this team? That's kind of a laughable assertion on your part. Yes, aces can never ever lose. The second they lose, they are no longer aces.

Roger wasn't the greatest in the postseason. Was he not an ace? Many consider him one of the two greatest pitchers of all time.

I wasn't directing that comment at you. You didn't have ERA in your post. Why be offended by everything?

Game 2.

I'm willing to bet actual money that Price pitches to career averages next season and the guys who are constantly whining about him immediately jump on his dick and rave about how awesome he is while denying ever criticizing him, just as some are doing with Porcello right now.

no, not never. but did they do it in the same FLIPPING game?

price is a effing disappointment to me. you love him. i get it. i am worried that he will once again suck in the postseason and cost my team a parade. you think he will be fine. i get it. i hate the fact that we are stuck with him for another 6 years @$31MM per when he has pitched mediocre in the first year of the contract. you think he is going to be a perennial CY. i get it.

if you are talking about me...name the amount of money. i will never deny. ever. even if he pitches like an "ace" at some point in his time in Boston. i happily ate my crow with Lackey as i watched him celebrating on a duck boat......

name the amount.

You're not the only person here whining about Price, but I welcome all challengers. I tend to avoid betting because I think it's a disgusting habit, but I'll make an exception. How about something simple like 5 dollars per bet?

i think you're both wrong. He has not pitched like an ace this year, he's had good stretches but that's not what makes an ace. On the other hand, not having him in the playoff rotation is absurd.

I was one that was on Porcello last year. I didn't like contract he was given.. But I can understand the thinking. I saw with the stats and eye test IMO a 15-10 High 3/Low 4 ERA pitcher. I was wrong. So moving right along, Price was brought here to be the ACE. That is why he was paid over north of 30M per year with a 3 year opt out if he chooses. He hasn't pitched good in pressure games. I wanted them to sign him and still like the deal. He's a very good pitcher not great. What he could do next year means nothing now. I'm not talking about winning streaks, or Farrell. Spud, I hate when people or fans say great player or great pitcher, that word is thrown around a lot. He wasn't good last night. I can't blame the right field Yankee porch on everything. Don't forget they saved him another run when Sanchez hit into the DP in the 6th. Of course I want him to start. No doubt. I just have questions like everybody else. This is the time of year the great ones put everything on lockdown. The meaning: shut down innings.

So, which number impress you?

Price is #1 hits. That awesome!

#10 in HRs! Woohoo!

Nowhere to be seen in the lists for:

WAR

ERA

WHIP

True that Price is no Pedro. I don't expect him to be.

I do expect him to be better than 20 other pitchers in the majors.

If those expectations are too high for you, you and the Price worshipers will have to find some way to get over it.

They bitch and moan about Price but he gave the Red Sox what they needed this season. Primarily he took the ball for every start and went deep into most of his starts giving the team a chance to win most of his starts. That is something that we have not had a lot of in recent years. He may not have accumulated ace numbers this year, but he has been solid throughout the year, and he can still strike out batters at a very high rate so I have no doubt that he will return to his career norms.

As for Porcello, I always thought that he was a bottom of the rotation pitcher which was not meant as a knock on him, because he takes the ball and eats lots of innings. I thought his ceiling was as a #3, so his extraordinary performance this year has been a very pleasant surprise for me. The hate for Price has been so stupid. If Porcello had had Price's 2016 in 2015, we would have all been thrilled. There is no reason to hate on Price. He has been excellent in the second half.

I didn't say that the number of hits were impressive, jackass.

Thanks for reminding why I usually don't respond to you.

You're an *******.

Price's season has been a disappointment overall ... he was not disappointing in the last 2 months, and he has been a Top 10-15 pitcher over that time. And even when he has not been that, he has been a workhorse - which was especially important as the bullpen was stumbling along.

The season has been bad by David Price standards, decent by normal ones - with lots of evidence that the "bad stuff" was a fluke.

That about sums it up.

I just hope the "fluky" stuff doesn't extend into the post season.

Watching Price face the Rangers in a playoff game isn't going to be a good time.
