Travis Shaw now has a BA/OPS of .286/.841 in over 300 PAs. He has also played very good defense at 3B this year. Sandoval meanwhile can't even be examined by Dr Andrews because he is in so much pain. Yet he continues to occupy a place on the 25 man roster. How much longer do the Sox hold on to him? Even if he were healthy he there is really no place to put him. He is a 3B; we already have a better 3B and a backup 3B. Healthy or not, he is an appendix.

He is damaged goods. I guess that they might be keeping him because they would have to eat his whole contract if they parted ways with him now. They will probably let this play out a little longer to see if somehow he can rebuild a little value. I don't think that will happen. I agree with you. The handwriting is on the wall. Pablo has no future with the Red Sox organization.

Pablo = 2017 DH

They can't move him.

Not move him: release him. Next year its likely that Hanley will move to DH and Sam Travis will be ready to take over at 1B. Sandoval is useless; no one wants him. Thank you very much Ben Cherington. Henry is going to have to eat his contract. The issue is that unless he is on the DL he is taking up a roster spot, one we could be using for someone more functional. I am sure they tried to move him. Who would take him, even for free?

Unfortunately I side with Pablo on this part. If there is too much inflammation/pain, your exam will be useless. You need the inflammation to be down to get an accurate eval

So rest, anti-inflamatories, ice, physical therapy? How long would you guesstimate it might take for the inflammation to work its way out of there? Trying to get a little free advice here as well.

HAHA!!! I agree. I was one of Pandas HUGE supporters when he got signed.......I'll eat crow on that one. I really can't see them eating his cash though. I personally see him being our future DH and part time 3B.....splitting both positions with Shaw. There is still a part of me......a VERY SMALL PART OF ME....that sees him having a bit of a chip on his shoulder and trying to prove people wrong. If he does then maybe...just maybe he could be moved.

I know a bunch of people that went to Spring Training this year. I asked them how was Panda and they ALL SAID that he was one of the hardest workers over there and when out on the field he worked just as hard, if not harder than anybody there. They all said the drive appears to be there....just that the body isn't. If he can get his head out of his ass....he may be able to make something of himself in the uniform.....

.........wishful thinking...I know.

I saw it the same way that you did. I wish now that I had done just a little research on this guy.

I was meh about the signing. I didn't think we needed him and was worried about his downtrending OPS, but I didn't see this happening, not even close.

Called it. As soon as they signed him, I genuinely called it for the terrible signing that it was.

If you read the post when he was signed, no one liked it much.

Putting him as a DH seems to be a common suggestion. I don't like it though. The DH spot I believe is best used in one of two ways. One, you put a once in a lifetime clutch hitter like Ortiz as DH. Or you use it as a way to give good players rest while keeping their bats in the lineup. Giving the DH job to an average hitter is a waste... assuming Sandavol gets back to being average. That said I really don't know what you do with him and his contract.

I was right there with you. Splashy grab lacking baseball sense.

Especially when you look at his offensive stats from the 3 previous years.

Not a good signing.

The organization needs to hire an around the clock 24/7/365 personal chef & personal trainer for The Butterball. although it is surely not in his contract, DD needs to pull Pablo and his agent aside for a discussion and explain that he will not see the field again until he loses XXX amount of weight. right now it's a huge sunk cost. DD needs to make a small investment for the chef & trainer to try and recoup something from that contract. and no way on earth you let him go home by himself for any holiday since he saw fit (pun intended) to gain 20+ pounds during a couple week visit home over Xmas vacation.

Unless of course DD's plan is to just keep on having Phantom Injuries place The Butterball on the DL so that the organization can recoup some $$$ from insurance.....

UN gave us the run down on the cost to have a nutritionist, chef and personal trainer in the DR and it is pocket change in the context of his annual $17 million salary. If he hires them, he might be committed to using them. If DD has to hire them, Panda will be sneaking out for pizza.

Even in the US, having a guy chase you around so you work out and don't eat stupid s*** is not that expensive (in context). To further hammer that point home, I will ask a professional bodybuilder/coach who I personally know (his name is Justin Harris, and he's extremely intelligent, having two master's and a PhD). He used to run a bodybuildier coaching gig, and I'm sure he could tell me exactly what it would cost to get Panda to stop being a fat blob.

maybe some of that "sneaking" he will have to do will burn some calories? ;)

i say let's not make it easy for him to be a fat slob. Maybe Dr. Andrews can recommend lap band surgery for his "shoulder" injury? if Pablo wants a second opinion we can send him to Dr. Seuss......

You should not eat that, Sandoval, you should not eat an entire ram.

I bet he can dislocate his jaw like a python so he doesn't have to chew.

They should just hire that trainer that helped him before. He knows what Pablo needs to succeed. The trainer said it wasn't hand holding, it was military discipline like.

If Sandoval needs shoulder surgery will that get us some insurance payments for his contract?

Pablo must be very upset regarding the possibility of surgery as that is his fork hand.
