Lets get Cueto too!!

I'd rather them try to move Panda for Shields somehow, at least he's proven he can pitch consistently in the AL. Something Cueto hasn't been able to prove just yet.

Id be fine with either.. I am just not really understanding why anyone would really be interested in Sandoval, but if Padres are down, SIGN ME UP!

I think I read somewhere that The Padres were fond of Sandavol?

Great to have Price, but that contract is going to be horrific in it's last few years.

unless he somehow opts out in 3 years.

That would be perfect all round. Get 3 great years of him then hope he leaves before the decline!

Although I think that opt out has no chance of happening unless we continue the last place thing.

Yeah but he'd only be 33 then and should still be good. he would probably still command a big payday at that point.

Fair point. That really wouldn't be so bad.

EDIT: Although, you'd think there's no way he's getting 4 years at $120m at 33...

We knew it was coming. Without compensation issues, all it took was money. Always good to have a proven AL East pitcher.

Team could use another mid-level starter - but really the rotation now fits a lot better.

Thumbs down to the Kimbrel trade (the TRADE, not Kimbrel showing up), thumbs up to Young and to Price. So overall not too bad.

I don't think there's any chance of Price opting out.

Unless for some reason, he's really, really unhappy playing in Boston.

There is absolutely nothing to regret about getting Price. Nothing.

He is is a 200 inning, 32 start, Cy Young winner that can still win the award and the dude has a sub three to three point zero ERA beast that should win 16+ games each year for the next 3-4 years.

I do not completely subscribe to WAR evaluations, pitchers included. I read today that at least one MLB team give a value of one WAR as $8. mil

So it was determined that 6 WAR Price would need 27 WAR through the end of the deal to be "worth his contract."

I see this as a close to sure thing.

The Sox currently have 42 men on the roster.

Two bodies must get moved.

7 years, un f***ing believable

We'll get 2 decent years and then he'll do a Verlander.

Awful

Probably...

And don't hold your breath for another pitcher to be signed.

This is it.

But, 13 mil for two years of Young is unreasonable? LOL

Too funny....

By the time this deal reaches year 4, it will look like "a pretty good deal" with the way baseball salaries are exploding. Another thing people need to take into consideration is the actual value of the draft pick the Sox get to keep by not signing a QO guy.

I'll bet dollars to doughnuts he will opt out.

But, you know how it goes.

"Pretty good" wont be worth 30 per, so there will be lots of whining and calls to dump him on some unsuspecting GM, if he spends his last 3 years pitching like CC.

Have to love a guy who tells you what needs to be done, then just gets it done. We got the best pitcher on the market (argueably). We have one of the top closers in the game. We have a player who might be a decent 4th outfielder. They didn't go looking for black Friday sales. Got the best available! Good for them and good for us.

I usually agree with you UN, but this is one time that I wholeheartedly disagree.

He will exercise the opt-out. Mark my words. I swore they would get Price, and I swear he will leave midway through his deal. Remember that CC's original contract actually worked out pretty damn good for the Yanks. The extension is what killed them. Also, CC was a clear candidate for fat guy decline.

If he pitches at an elite level for those three years, he will opt out. In four years, 30 million a year will be the going rate for "almost elite" pitching. It wasn't even ten years ago that a 20 mill/year contract was a big deal, now a guy with decent speed and some pop can get 20 per, no problem. That's the way I look at it.

Do we even know for sure that there's an opt-out clause?

Good point. But as much as I hate the f***ing midget (Rosenthal) I can't remember the last time he was wrong about a big announcement like this.
