Clay Buchholz, RHP

4-0, 0.90 ERA

They need to hammer this chump. Napoli wields the mighty hammer of Thor. You make the connection.

Prediction: 7-2 Red Sox, and don't they DARE win 5-3 tomorrow.

WIN!

Didn't Humber throw a no-no once?

Perfect last year on the same day we blew that 9 run lead vs New York. It was against Seattle, though, so it doesn't count.

Perfect game, that's right. 0-4 now. Hope he doesn't break out tomorrow.

I predict some combination of Alex Wilson and Steven Wright finishing the game. Whether that is a lock or a reverse lock I find it pretty likely.

I thought Wright got sent down to bring Bard up.

He's been terrible his entire career. He got lucky on one day and then fell off of the mountain and back into the clutches of mediocrity.

In Humber's last outing, he went 1/3 IP with 8 ER. Not so great. As for the Astros offense against Buchholz, very high chance for a no-no or better.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Scene: 50 years from now, the Humber Family Estate

Fade in. An elderly man with a full beard, except on his cheeks where it looks more like the first few years of growth after a devastating forest fire, sits in an antique rocking chair. On the floor, in a semicircle around him, sit five children, ranging in age from 3 to 10

Child 1: Grampa Phil, can you tell us about baseball?

Phillip Humber: (sighs deeply) Ahhh, my wonderful grandchildren, I thought you'd never ask. You see, I once played baseball, back before the entire game was played by statistics computers in a climate -controlled laboratory underneath the wastelands of New Jersey.

Child 2: You mean you played with real bats and balls and gloves and stuff?

Phillip Humber: That's right! I played baseball for the Chicago White Sox!

Child 1: Mommy told me you played for the Houston Astr-

Phillip Humber: Well, Mommy married a journeyman plumber, too, so Mommy isn't always right, is she, darling? Now shush. Anyways, I played for the White Sox, and one time, I pitched a perfect game! I was just a kid back then, but I can remember it like it was yesterday....

Child 3: Woooow! You pitched a perfect game!? That's incredible, Grampa! Why haven't you ever told us?

Phillip Humber: I did! It's all I ever talk about. I told the lady at the grocery store the other day, and just this morning I chased the UPS guy down the sidewalk in my anti-grav wheelchair, screaming about how I once set down 27 men in a row!

Child 4: I checked the internet, Grampa. They say perfect games are sometimes the spark to ignite a truly spectacular career. Can I check the rest of your career stats on the-

Phillip Humber: NO! No, I mean, just...no, I was a fantastic baseball player. I won at least four...no, five World Series. I won the Cy Young award fifteen times, including in the NL and AL in the same year. Anyways, yes, that's what your Grampa did. Well, anything else you want to know about ol' Grampa Phils' baseball career?

Child 3: Which team did you pitch your perfect game against?

Phillip Humber:...the Yankees.

A single tear falls from Phillip Humbers' eye

Child 5: Grampa, I don't think I've ever heard a more depressing story about momentary triumph followed by boring, inadequate effort.

Phillip Humber: Well, in that case, let me tell you about my old friend Dallas Braden...

I'm pretty sure he faced us immediately after the perfect game. And he went 5 innings and gave up 9ER.

Man oh man Stallion you guys are scaring me. I hope all of you are right and this is as easy as they make it out to be but we had better be careful. If we play well we win....that's fine with me but just going through the motions might not get us what we want. We should take this series and I would love the hat trick but most of our wins this year have been hard earned. We still must beat down. Nice to have Clay opening the series for us.

BTW, did you get my PM? When I hit the post button I got a blank screen and didn't now if you received it. I put two of the three on ignore but one is not on the list so he is still around.

Do you or anyone else know the numbers for pitchers after a no no or perfect game? Usually they tend to suck it up the game right after a no no or perfect hitter.

*Looks at Forsyth*

I guess if we lose then everyone can blame me. :)

I did not receive your PM, so I sent you one with which you can respond to.

So, Astros are on a roll, two straight wins coming into this series. :D

Glad to see Lavarnway back, .310/.423/.452 so far in AAA.

That's right. And they're the classic team with nothing to lose. Best course of action is to pummel them early. Don't let them stick around. Crooked numbers, baby.

Good to see they dumped Aceves. That shows there is urgency in the organization--they don't want to lose the momentum they've generated early in the season. Urgency is something that has been sadly lacking in this organization the last couple years. Let's hope they stay flexible in injecting young talent when the old talent isn't doing the job. Especially the pitching. That means Webster has to get a serious shot--starting Sunday. Rushing Lackey could be disastrous--his biceps may be trying to tell him something.

Lavarnway? I doubt it's for the catching. Probably for a game or two--for the RHd bat. He has yet to show he can hit ML pitching. MBrooks looks like he needs a couple games off--that's what Ciriaco is for.

We should steamroll these guys.

I'm with Fred on this one...I don't like getting too confident. (As if my attitude has any effect.)

I think 3 out of 4 would be a par score. 2-2 would definitely suck.

Yeah, Sox have a history of playing down to certain opponents. They should win games 1 and 2, but Doub's needs a solid outing on Saturday. He just seems to be too inconsistent.

Last outing he gave up eight runs and eight hits in just one-third of an inning against CLEVELAND

Humber is 2-2 with a 7.33 ERA in four career starts versus the Red Sox.

Boston has won seven of the nine all-time meetings with Houston.

Plus Clay Buchholz is basically god right now.

I'll be working but if we don't win, I'd be pretty upset.

Cleveland does seem to have a pretty decent offense at times for what it's worth.

this

sure that humber outing was bad but CLE's offense isn't horrible like the 'tros.
