Notes: Shane Victorino (lower back) is out of the lineup after coming out of Wednesday's game after the sixth inning. ... The Sox have the best record in the American League and the Astros the worst. Buchholz is facing Houston for the first time in his career. ... Humber is 2-2, 7.33 in four career starts against the Sox. All four of those starts came from 2011-12 when Humber was with the White Sox. Humber allowed 11 runs on 14 hits over 11 innings in two starts against the Sox last season. ... Humber threw a perfect game against the Mariners last April 21. He is 4-9, 7.26 since with a 1.67 WHIP. ... Napoli has 15 extra-base hits and 26 RBIs in 21 games. I had completely forgotten that Carlos Pena existed, let alone that he played for Houston now.

He must like to lose. Went back to the Rays last year after a year with the Cubs.:dunno:

That is what I am wondering. Could they be looking to make a trade?

From the Globe:

Ryan Lavarnway is here only temporarily. With Alfredo Aceves sent to Pawtucket, the Sox decided to use the roster spot to add a bench player for three days. Every indication is that John Lackey will be ready to start Sunday. Lavarnway would return to Triple A when Lackey is activated.

Victorino is day-to-day with back injury

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff April 25, 2013 04:03 PM

Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino is out of the lineup after experiencing back spasms in the sixth inning Wednesday. It was the same condition that caused him to miss two games last weekend.

Manager John Farrell said Victorino is day-to-day, but the Sox will wait until he is symptom-free before playing him again.

Good to see they dumped Aceves. That shows there is urgency in the organization--they don't want to lose the momentum they've generated early in the season. Urgency is something that has been sadly lacking in this organization the last couple years. Let's hope they stay flexible in injecting young talent when the old talent isn't doing the job. Especially the pitching. That means Webster has to get a serious shot--starting Sunday. Rushing Lackey could be disastrous--his biceps may be trying to tell him something.

Lavarnway? I doubt it's for the catching. Probably for a game or two--for the RHd bat. He has yet to show he can hit ML pitching. MBrooks looks like he needs a couple games off--that's what Ciriaco is for.

Saying the organization has been sadly lacking in organization is not the type of statement that is popular with some on this board, but you are right on with that take on it. We all now know about those meetings when they talked more about TV ratings going down and the lack of "sexy" players on the team than the bottom line of winning. Now my take is that I believe John Farrell has been given a lot of power to shape this team as he sees fit, an in this has the full and enthusiastic support of General Manager Cherington.

Say what you will about departed Epstein and Francona but until both seem to lose their way after 2008 they worked very well together and the result was success such as the Red Sox had not experienced since the nineteen teens.

Ahh, the Red Sox glory days of the early 1900s. Tell me, Fred, what was that like?! :D

There's a racist joke in there somewhere but I exercised some restraint for once. The hell is wrong with me?
