ESPN tweet this morning: "Braves open to dealing Teheran or Delgado to land an outfielder."

Braves need an OF. I wonder if KC deals Myers for either of these guys.

Or, should the Red Sox get involved there? Both those guys are stud pitching prospects, but they're still just prospects. Maybe deal Kalish + something (not sure what the "something" would be) for one of them?

I think they will dangle those guys for Upton. AZ wants Simmons but Atlanta is balking at that. If Atlanta can add a Drew or someone they maybe be more willing to deal Simmons. Simmons+Delgado or Teheran is pretty good offer for Upton of Atlanta takes on all his contract.

Well I wasn't proposing they pull the trigger without the #1 being lined up already. That's a must.

Essentially it's a 3 team deal without KC knowing the end game because they could interfere and offer Myers package themselves for the top pitcher.

I don't think it is realistic that KC could be kept in the dark. There would be nothing to stop the team to which we would be trading Myers from approaching KC to cut out the middle man. They would look to cut their own deal.

I don't think KC could top a Red Sox offer of Ellsbury + prospects without dealing from their ML offensive core, something they are trying to avoid. I say keep them in the dark not because they are the concern but ,if they happen to inform some other teams of the Red Sox plans it could get complicated. This type of move would require playing it very close to the chest and catching other teams off guard.

Three way deals are complicated and they can fall apart very easily. Cherries has so much work to do that a 3 way would take too much time and energy IMO. Maybe he could pursue it after he has all of his other pieces in place.

This KC deal is starting to sound like it should take place in an ally way.

Yes...our imaginations really get fired up here sometimes.

I really like the moves that the Nats have made in the last 2 post seasons. They weren't all gems, but they have built themselves a very formidable squad.

Nats have made some great moves recently. Haren is a solid addition to that rotation. I'm a little surprised he got 13M. But it is only for one year.

I think we missed out here.

I agree. I thought a 1-year, $12m deal was right, so I wasn't off by much. I think that deal right there (1/13) was pretty ideal for the Sox. Bummed to not get Haren.

But I can get Harens take too if the teams happened to offer similar deals. Values a lot harder to build in the AL East and he will be on a contending team with less pressure on him because they rotation is very strong. He would have been counted on more in Boston. Boston missed out on a decent SP. Not the end of the World. If they trade for Floyd the still would have Lester, Buch, Floyd, Doubront and Lackey. And still could add Marcum, McCarthy types.

Not happy the Red Sox did not make a play for Haren.

C'mon, there's nothing saying they didn't try.I'm a little bummed too but Haren had good reason to choose the Nats.

I think they're going to sign one starter from a short list and they are moving on that right now. I agree Haren could have been a good sign. Mind you his medical records did scare off both the Angels and the Cubs.

It's refreshing to see some optimism in here!

A lot of us on this board were pretty pissed over the lack of movement for the past month and yesterday's signing of Mike Napoli changed all that......certainly for me. We added a versatile RH power hitter, opened up avenues for a possible trade of one of our catchers, maybe put in the race for Josh Hamilton, and finally maybe making moves to upgrade our starting rotation. Cherington made a good move yesterday and now most of us think we might be on the right trail......some progress, that is all most of us were asking for.

This is a phenominal move in many ways.

1) Adding a monster bat to the lineup.

2) Using Vmart as a comparison, the Red Sox seriously underpaid for Napoli. One less year, 500k fewer bucks per year before factoring inflation.

3) No draft pick given up to sign him.

4) Takes yet another catcher off the free agent market place, increasing Salty's trade value.

5) Tells free agents that this team is very serious, without hurting their payroll to a point where it will prevent them from making more signings.

Well said Palodios. A helluva move, and it opens up new potential doors for further signings and trades. We now have comodities that other teams need, just as long as the front office doesn't forget that we need a couple of pitchers thrown in there to help in that critical area. My take is if we are really interested in Hamilton as I hinted at yesterday, and if the talks between him and teams don't drag on for weeks, I think we sign him and then quickly make moves either the FA way (Haren) or through trades. BTW, it Shawn Marcum a FA or still under contract? One of those two would be nice, two of them would be better.

Swisher can't play CF, and they'll want more than 10 HR pop out of RF.

To me Forsyth, it all comes down to who wants Hamilton and how badly they want to sign him. If teams muddle around with each team going back and forth offering a contract that doesn't sit well with him, the talks could drag on for weeks. IF the Red Sox really want him as I suspect, they need to move to make him a big offer. If I am wrong and there is no interest in him on the part of our front office, then move in on Swisher and get the outfield settled before the pitchers disappear.

Oh yes, one just did. Dan Haren just ok'd a deal with the Nationals.

Love that we got somebody...did something....but I am still leery of the expectations that the Sox will have for Napoli. They will clearly move him closer to the middle of the order and expect him to play at least as many games as the 140 games that has been his career high.

I am also worried about what they will do for inter-league play. Will they move Napoli behind the plate to keep Ortiz in the lineup? Napoli may end up playing more games behind the plate than makes sense for a guy you really need to keep on the field, as fresh as possible.

If I could have found a rational in Swisher's fielding at 1st base then I would have been much happier with him. Unless they get WMB to stop with these BS throws to 1st, WMB to Napoli could easily be something of a nightmare. I don't expect Napoli to bail WMB out at anything like the rate that Agons and Loney did...not even close.

Maybe signing Napoli suggests they are really going to make a run at Hamilton. Hard to make anargument that they were to LHed when signing Napoli immediately made them to RHed. Maybe LaRoche AND Hamilton would have lifted them to a heavy LHed lineup.

We could have made that happen...

We could have but free agency is a two way street. If the deals are equal or even slightly tilted in the Red Sox favor money wise, which team would you prefer? The young, up and coming Nats that play in a much easier NL East or the Red Sox? Pretty easy decision really, especially when it's on a 1 year deal that gives Haren a shot to re-establish his value and then go back into free agency next year.

Nick Cafardo ‏@nickcafardo

Red Sox front runners on Shane Victorino. Offered three year $38 mill deal.

For the love of god, please be untrue. Mike Cameron, but worse.....please be false.

Duplicate report... 3 years seems to the magic number this year for the Sox. Victorino has declined as of late but he's still better than most options out there and at the very least he'll give us another base stealing threat alongside Ells

I just heard the Victorino thing on the tv in the background while I was in the kitchen and almost threw up in my mouth. Please let this be false. Shane Victorino is 32 years old and what the educated commonly refer to as "terrible".

Do.Not.Want. He's a less talented Carl Crawford.

Hes Mike Cameron, but for money and an extra year.

Hes in a decline.....please be false.

I just saw on MLB Tonight that Nick Cafardo tweeted that the Red Sox are the front runner for Shane Victorino on a 3 year 38 million deal... I hope this is just a cruel joke.

I thought Cody Ross had priced his way outta town but that 3 year 38 we could get Ross id rather have him in right than Vicortino.

& Ken Rosenthal reported that Josh Hamilton talks with the Rangers are heating up on what he believes is a 4 year deal. Come on FO!! i didnt want Hamilton on a 6 or 7 year deal but a 4 or possibly 5 would not scare me too bad.
