Alex Gonzalez is still on the market.

I like him for Iglesias insurance, but he doesn't play any other position other than SS. I think the Red Sox will look for more versatility.

Brewers, Royals, Red Sox In On Dempster

By Luke Adams [December 5 at 2:13pm CST]

2:13pm: The Royals made Dempster a two-year, $26MM offer, which he declined, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. Kansas City balked at Dempster's request for three years and it seems neither side has changed its stance, says Dutton (Twitter links).

1:59pm: The Royals and Red Sox are still interested in Dempster, according to Rosenthal, who says the Brewers remain in the mix as well. The Angels' current level of interest is unclear, says Rosenthal (Twitter link).

12:21pm: Dempster believes he will earn a three-year deal if other free agent pitchers like Anibal Sanchez, Kyle Lohse, and Edwin Jackson land four- or five-year deals, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

10:37am: With the Brewers still unwilling to commit a third year to an offer for Ryan Dempster, the two sides have reached an impasse in their negotiations, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. If another team steps up and offers Dempster a three-year deal, the Brewers will likely be out of the running, says Haudricourt.

We heard on Monday that Dempster is seeking a three-year contract, something Milwaukee preferred to avoid, having been burned on long-term deals for veteran starters before. Perhaps the two sides can reach a compromise on some sort of two-year deal with a third-year option, but for now it seems nothing is close.

GM Doug Melvin visited with Dempster's agent, Craig Landis, yesterday.

I'd rather have offered Haren $16 million for one year to get him away from the Nats than to give Dumpster 2 yrs/ $26 million.

This is a move I wouldn't be happy with. Not even on a one year deal.

Per MLBTR:

Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports still list the Red Sox and Giants among the potential suitors for Swisher. However, the Sox would have to move Jacoby Ellsbury, while the Giants figure to employ a low-cost platoon in left field instead.

It would be better than Dumpster for 2/26.

Thought they only brought the 3/39 template with them to the winter meetings?

Pretty sure they did.

On that note, I already have horrible images in my mind of how Dempster turns out. I'd really rather the Red Sox not be the team that gives him three years, even if that means having to figure out some sort of back up plan.

On another note, glad to hear the Red Sox are still in on Swisher. Outfield could end up being pretty interesting. I suppose that would also give Iglesias the chance to play shortstop for a whole season without being too worrisome.

No to Dempster. Not to Lohse. I hope they make trades soon so these stories stop popping up. These guys make no sense for this team and if either of them are signed I'm gonna bitch like I did about Lackey hahaha

3/39

I dont like him in boston period id rather let one of our prospects get a shot

Dempster would be the worst sign it makes no sense

Spend money elsewhere Red Sox!!!

We need trades to happen so we all dont have to take anymore stomach pills

Rumors like this is what I hate about the Winter Meetings

I wished they would not allow alcohol into the Opryland Hotel

See what happens when executives with millions to spend get drunk we get Dempsters

Sox met with Hamilton while he was in Nashville, confirmed by Mirosi.

His market is going to disintegrate soon, as soon as the Rangers sign Greinke.

Hamilton won't want to go to Seattle. Sox will give him setting like 3/84 with a 20mm option and a 10mm buyout and he will land in Boston.

Mirosi just said that the meeting between the Sox and Hamilton went great.

I really can't believe that the Rangers have just put Hamilton on the back burner and nobody is striking.

Give him 3 with an option and get him in Boston.

And you don't have to trade Ellsbury if you sign Hamilton, either. An OF of Hamilton - Ellsbury - Victorino, with Gomes as your 4th OF would be fantastic.

Brian Wilson will be ready by Spring Training, according to Tim Brown.

Source: Brian Wilson has been told by surgeon James Andrews that he will be cleared for spring training and ready by opening day.

Sox need to move on that. Quickly.

Jen Royle reporting that Hamilton is the only position player that the Sox are focused on. Everything else is SP.

They certainly seem to be a lot more interested in Hamilton than they're letting on.

Now THAT is very interesting. So do they trade Ellsbury for a pitcher and then sign Hamilton? Or go hard after Hamilton right now?

This is slow playing the Hamilton deal like when they landed Crawford

i dont think until mid part of the season ill be happy with the Victorino signing

Vic ill have to have gold glove defense & some power numbers by the ASB to impress me

An outfield of Hamilton Ellsbury & Victorino with Gomes giving Hamilton breaks

Hamilton at 140games played can still put up MVP numbers thats why we should get him

It will prolly take more than 3 years id say 5 would get him or 4 with a option

I wouldnt be surprised if by tomorrow evening we are talking bout the Red Sox signing him

Is she now? She is also the one that said that Napoli was likely to sign with the Red Sox during the Winter Meetings. What happened? Napoli was signed by the Red Sox the first day of Winter Meetings.

80M/4yr would be a fair contract IMO.

Yeah, because she's friends with Napoli. Big get there...

80/4 years isn't going to get it done IMO. The Sox have to go further than that if they want him at 4 years. 95/4 would be more likely. 110/5 would go a long way to making a deal happen as the Rangers don't seem to want to go beyond 4 years.

Well if they sign Hamilton I think the Sox will be thinking as much about how they build their 2014 lineup than how they build their 2013 lineup. They would have Hamilton and Ortiz right in the middle of the lineup through 2014. They should be able to build more team around those two guys for 2014.

Agreed, I think he would be a suitable replacement for Papelbon at a good value. This needs to happen.
