I am kind of glad I am not watching the game today. Mostly just AAA guys. I did not expect us to win this one after seeing the lineups and we are down 5-1. Bobby V said that the final roster spot is up for grabs, does anyone have any idea who the favorite to make it is?

Damn I spoke way too soon. It is now tied 6-6. From the box score, it looks like it is a good game. Bowden gave up one earned run. I think Bailey is pitching today too? If someone is watching it, can you post an update on how he does?

How are you Fred? Everything alright?

If Ross gives us what Bay gave us two years ago, we won't notice Scu's departure that much offensively, regardless Aviles has shown interesting things as well this ST, but I want to see him as everyday player for once and for all.

Hey iortiz, good to hear from you again. What happened to you? Seems like you disappeared for awhile. Things seem to be going ok with me but I take it day by day so you never really know. I am getting my blood up for the coming season and it will be a great one if our team can make real amends for last year's miserable finish. Let's think in an upbeat manner and I think we'll be ok.

I've been kind of busy Fred, but it is good to hear that you are just fine my friend.

Today's lineup:

Ellsbury

Pedroia

Gonzales

Youkilis

Ortiz

Ross

Salty

Sweeney

Aviles

It's also the one i'd like to see used regularly.

When I initially saw the line up, I wished today's game was Nationally televised so I could see it thinking "this looks like our starting line up for Thursday".

I CANNOT wait for Thursday btw. Real baseball will finally be here!

One man wrecking crew.

4-1 Sox! Mayor's Cup here we come...

Ciriaco has been insane this ST.

I was asking what you were referring to about Remy's son. I hadn't heard anything and was curious.

He got fired from the Sox in 09 for selling steroids. He's an admitted user amd the were doing a twitter "#askremy" segment during the game. The real questions were "what's you favorite sox memory?"

Now "how can I get a stache like yours and how will the sox do this year."

Damn, Ciriaco has done everything he possibly could to make this team. Youk is hitting only .194. I know it is only Spring Training, but i hope this guy makes the team with the last roster spot. He has certainly eatned it.

From Peter Abraham and the Globe

Top of the 8th: Red Sox 5, Twins 1: Gonzalez doubled and scored on a double by Theodore S. Ciriaco, the greatest Red Sox player ever. Ciriaco has 8 extra-base hits in 41 ABs this spring. He had 12 in 277 ABs with Class AAA Indianapolis last year.

:D

I must have mis-remembered that.

With Bailey on the shelf? How about an extra pitcher?

I just don't understand the love affair with the kid. He's hit in ST, but his body of work suggests he's not that good.

However, he may be a superior option to Punto....but that's a whole other story.

Yeah, he has potential to be better than Punto, much more upside anyway. I doubt anyone sees him as more than roster filler.

That is Bobby V's call. I would approve of another pitcher, it sure as hell wouldn't hurt. I understand your points, but I am dismissing his past. He could be a viable backup option. If we only bring 12 pitchers north, then why not give him a chance? He would only be there until Crawford returns and if he actually proves that he is a solid bat off of the bench, then maybe we could try to trade Punto for some help in the pen! Those are big ifs though. I am just stating that he has done everything possible to earn a chance on the 25 man roster.

Punto is a necessity. He's your late game defensive replacement should the sox be winning. And with a guy like Aviles at SS, that is important

Isn't Ciriaco a really good defensive guy too though? From his scouting report, he's supposed to be very good with the glove at several positions, and he's faster than Punto.

Punto's defensive numbers are pretty insane though. Put this into perspective:

Adrian Beltre's career UZR/150 at 3B -- 15.4

Nick Punto's career UZR/150 at 3B -- 19.0 (over 2000+ innings)
