i agree with all that is bold but dempster looks as though hes positive theo will keep him in cubs org

i like CJ Wilson but the Yanks will make us overpay for him

we have already expressed interest in Bruce Chen maybe we will go for him again

pending a extensive physical wainwright might be a good low purchase coming off an injury

Kuroda consistent but also wishes to stay with the dead dodgers...

(dodgers need new FO as well and should just trade andre either to us so him and pedey can set the tone for a new era in Boston)

Extensive physical for Duchscherer this kid can really pitch but something about pitchers leaving oakland and sucking big time is just a scary thought...

Interesting pitchers bolded. Thoughts?

Jackson would be a solid #3-#4 here. Not a great pitcher's pitcher, but durable and dependable. A guy who can give your bats a chance to win.

Buehrle would be killed at Fenway, which is geared exactly against his abilities.

Oswalt could be a really good idea if you don't make the fatal mistake of adding that fourth year. 4 is a bridge too far, even for a big marlet. 3 is really kinda pushing it but he'll get that so it's no use pushing back against that.

Duchscherer couldn't stay healthy to save his mother.

maybe with the right medical team he could be better... well there goes that theory with boston lol

curious as to why and how a "medical team" for such a high profile team can blow it so many times within a short amount of time for our team... im glad Ben in his press conference said that would be something he was going to address as well

How so, im not going against you on this I jus really dont know his stats at fenway and am curious as to your reasoning why Buerhle isnt a good fit for boston...

So is the bandbox known as US Cellular though.

A good Relief pitcher who needs at least one more year to figure out if he will ever be a legitimate closer or if he will always be JUST a set up man... i personally would prefer him to figure his s*** out and be able to step up to the plate when we need him most because I believe he can do it

I wouldn't close with Bard until I had no choice. His reputation isn't the best in terms of mental fortitude. I don't think he has a true closer's mentality.

You can't get in Papelbon's head because his skull is too thick. Paps succeeds because he only has to think about throwing one pitch most of the time. Unfortunately I think Bard is a little smarter and can be made to think on the mound -- usually a bad thing.

Yeah, but then you have the problem of a command pitcher with no fastball and on the far side of 30. Against the Yankees.

Buehrle should not come to Boston.

You just described Andy Petitte.

He sure was good.

On a short-term deal, he would make sense, or at least that's my opinion.

along with this starting pitching problem in the rotation we have... could some of the problems came from inconsistent catcher calling the games... i know its been said that tek was phenomenal at calling the games and as much as i love tek and would love for them to resign him as a back up role not a split time with salty role is salty really the kid we are going forward with in our future as catcher and if so salty needs to put in the work that tek did with all the starting pitchers to get to know them and call the games in best interest of the team i know he put in a lot of work last offseason with gary tuck but i dont think it was enough

Oh the Yankees have owned him over his career, but they usually hit everyone, so that's not the point. He's a 32-year old lefty who can eat innings and he's a better option than mostly everything on the market.

No idea why people insist that Bard is a potential starter. He burnt that bridge in 07.

Daniel Bard has NEVER been even a REMOTELY successful professional starting pitcher.

The man is a relief pitcher. A good one, September hiccup notwithstanding. But definitely a reliever.

True dat!

I doubt the Cardinals don't pick up Wainwright's option.

Does anyone know if we have any insurance on this chump?

I know that he had a clause in his contract that says the team would hold a 2015 club option at the major league minimum if they wanted to bring him back.

Posted

I'm not sure that this has been said, but I think that Lackey now has to play for the league minimum in 2015 if he missed significant time due to a preexisting elbow injury, which may cover Tommy John Surgery.

Straight from Cot's

2015 club option at Major League minimum salary if Lackey misses significant time with surgery for pre-existing elbow injury in 2010-14
