Clemens first 20 K game was against Seattle; he did it again against Detroit a decade or so later.

And in that game against Seattle, the Red Sox were losing 1-0 after 6 innings, thanks to a Gorman Thomas home run.

Fortunately Dwight Evans came through with a 3 run shot of his own an inning later...

MadBum just threw a 7 inning no hitter. It counts IMO.

I agree. More surprising stat out of Atlanta today, however, is that the Braves had 1 hit in 14 innings today. This is a team that was supposed to compete for the NL pennant

Why? It’s not 9 innings.

Pitchers like Matt Young and Andy Hawkins have thrown 8 inning no hitters in road games their teams lost (through no fault of Young or Hawkins). Both pitchers were credited with complete games. Neither with no hitters.

So now a 7 inning CG no hitter counts but an 8 inning CG no hitter doesn’t?

Major League Baseball is so messed up.

Seven inning games. Runner on second to start the tenth inning. Asinine ideas . The folks who run baseball have no clue as to what is wrong with the game and what needs to be done to correct it.

I have ZERO problems with these new rules. I see I am the only one

The 8 inning ones should count too.

Well these days you can earn a ring with a 60-game season, so earning a no-no in a 7-inning game shouldn't be an issue.

Call me an old fashion man all you want but I don't like where baseball is moving forward.

I have to disagree. What about the guys who lost their no hit bids in the 8th or 9th innings?

Bumgarner was at 98 pitches. Would he have been able to complete 2 more innings if it had been a 9 inning game? While he pitched a great game, pitching for 7 innings is not the same as pitching for 9 innings.

If they lost it in the 9th, it’s not a no hitter. He threw a CG.

If a pitcher went into the 10th with a no no, it’s not a no hitter if he gives up a hit in the 10th.

Should a pitcher get credit for a no hitter in a 5 inning, rain shortened game?

IMO, it has to be a regularly sanctioned 9 inning game. If the home team doesn't have to bat in the bottom of the 9th, it counts.

I kept score of that game. Don't ask me why. Trying to score all 30 teams at least once this season, and I saw that this game was the free game of the day on MLB.TV

It would have been a perfect game, but a Seattle guy reached when strike three was a wild pitch.

Yeah, then he was caught stealing. 27 batters faced. Kind of tough luck there

That’s stupid rule.

SO but reached? He didn’t reach —technically speaking.

Has to be the first time the only baserunner in a no-no reached on a dropped third strike

Just to add one more detail, it was scored a wild pitch. It was a wicked breaking ball that hit the ground before reaching the catcher. Very tough play, probably the correct call rather than a passed ball.

Yes I am aware. I watched the entire game. ;)

When I was growing up in Southern Connecticut, we could get Met games on WOR Channel 9. I remember one afternoon, I want to say 1974 or 1975, I began watching a Mets-Giants game and told myself I’d watch until

the no-hitters were broken up. A couple hours later, Ed Halicki completed a no-no.

It’s the only one I’ve ever seen from start to finish.

Another no-no in SEA after 8 about to happen.

Not sure whether a no-no is that exciting at this point.

Seems like every week there is always one LOL!

I made a post somewhere we are well on track to seeing a record number of no hitters this year. And then Wade Miley threw one a couple days later.

Five and counting in 2021. The record in a single season is seven (1990, 1991, 2015)...

Kind of a dumb rule, if you think about it. If you strike out , you should be out. Why should you reach base if the ball gets past the catcher ?

The rationale behind it is that the defense has to do its job.

By the same token, if you hit a routine two hopper to shortstop, why should you get on base? But sometimes the shortstop flubs it.

Also, with the dropped third strike, the hitter still gets charged with a K.
