The rationale behind it is that the defense has to do its job.

By the same token, if you hit a routine two hopper to shortstop, why should you get on base? But sometimes the shortstop flubs it.

Also, with the dropped third strike, the hitter still gets charged with a K.

Pitchers gets the K, too. Just no putout for the catcher.

If you’re going to challenge any rule about strikeouts, maybe it should be catcher getting the putout. The pitcher is the guy who made it happen...

Now that I don't think anyone cares about.

Catcher doesn’t get the putout if there’s a throw to first; catcher gets an assist with the first baseman getting the putout.

And Bellhorn is right about it being something no one cares about.

Getting ridiculous lol

Don’t be surprise if Perez throws a no-no in his next start.

As opposed to the controversial dropped third strike rule?

Yes we all knew all of that. Some of us didn’t feel like typing the minute exceptions...

So who throws today’s no hitter?

I’m thinking Rich Hill...

We Hill went 3 no hit innings before Trey Mancini ruined the bid...

What's the over-under on the next no-no?

2 weeks, 1 month?

a few hours?

It was late night on the East Coast so most folks might have missed it , but last night the Cubs had four pitchers combine to no hit the Dodgers in L.A.

I can't get pumped up for combined no hitters. The Astros have two of these.

They all pale in comparison to this one:

Red Sox 4, Senators 0 -- June 23, 1917

Babe Ruth (0 IP), Ernie Shore (9 IP)

It’s probably the most famous opening to any no-hitter. Ruth, in his fourth season as an ace pitcher for Boston, got himself ejected for arguing balls and strikes after walking leadoff man Ray Morgan. Morgan was caught stealing after Shore’s very first pitch, and the righty retired the next 26 batters he faced for a most improbable no-hitter.

The combined no hitter is probably less common than the standard one pitcher variety. With the concern about pitch count in the game today, we may see more of them.

You might say the Bambino was the original "opener."

I read that he also punched the umpire that game.

On June 23, 1917, Babe Ruth was on the mound for the Boston Red Sox against the Washington Senators and it didn’t take much to set off the Babe that particular day. In fact, it took just four pitches. After walking leadoff hitter Ray Morgan, Ruth confronted umpire Brick Owens and the scene quickly turned ugly.

According to the Boston Globe, Ruth was upset over a couple of close pitches and after being warned and then ejected by Owens, Ruth slugged the umpire. “Then in rushed Ruth. Chester Thomas tried to prevent him from reaching Owens, who had not removed his mask, but Babe started swinging both hands. The left missed the arbiter, but the right struck him behind the left ear. Manager Barry and several policemen had to drag Ruth off the field. All season Babe has been fussing a lot. Nothing has seemed to satisfy him.”

Brewers with another combined no hitter last night. Burnes went eight no hit innings and was removed for Hader to close it. You never used to see a guy pitching a no hitter taken out after eight innings . Burnes seemed perfectly okay with it.
