With the Fall Classic now over, the offseason has officially begun for everyone. Things won't really get moving until five days after the World Series, but it's going to be a fast and furious race over the next ~month as teams try to get their business done before the Dec. 1 lockout.

The Red Sox should be plenty active in both free agency and on the trade market, especially when it comes to adding hitters. At least, we hope they'll be plenty active.

don't count on it Brandon. Think a rehabbing SP and a depth BP piece or 2 and possibly a decent but low cost bat on a 1 yr deal.

another 1 and done Red Sox--we hardly knew you Sonny

Sonny was great this past season. He gave it his all and was a key part of the Sox making the post season. I don't blame him for wanting to pitch close to home if thats what he wants. I don't think being pulled early in his last start will be the difference but it certainly won't help convince him to return. The Sox will really have to over pay to keep him and I don't see JH doing that. So long Sonny. It was nice having you here.

somehow we didn't feel it was worth it to pick up a 10 million option on a 18 game winner. Better to use some of that $$ on a SP rehabbing from TJ.

It was a $30mill mutual option, meaning both parties need to exercise it. Gray declined as well.  $10mill was just the buyout….

thats not the actual deets, the 10m was pretty much a sunk deferral of moving 10m of last years dollars to this year.

10m was the buyout that st L sent over with him. We were never going to pick up a 30 m option.. I’d pay him a 2/50 deal though.

I believe it was a mutual option.  Gray was never going to opt in.  It's possible he'll stay, but it won't cost less than $50M/2.
