Welcome to 2026! Breslow is going to be here for a while. Hope you enjoy the ride.

The Sox have been going with analytics for 30 years now and radio callers like you have complained the whole time about it. 🤷‍♂️

Radio callers like me, and people who post on forums are just different ways of doing things.

Dick Tracy was certainly a failure in these two games against the Yankees. What Geek, and Nerd told him his starting pitcher couldn’t last even 5 innings, and that Miller Time was his best option to bring in to a 1-0 game both nights, or to bring in NOchet who hadn’t pitched anywhere since April. He certainly didn’t look like an interim he looked like a little League manager, and as Mazz would say 1 dick move after another. Tracy was roasted, and toasted on the airwaves after the first Yankees game, and it will be even worse today. Well deserved, and warranted.🙈🤭🤮

Yup. Minor league manager, minor league GM.

Everybody liked Tracy for a long time.  Then he gets a 3 year extension.  Then he screws up.  For some reason it feels like a very Red Sox sequence of events.

Yup.

Oh no! He’s going to get roasted by the horribly informed Boston radio media!  Sorry, but if you want to know nothing about sports, local talk radio always seems to be the place to turn…

Bottom line was NEITHER was the best option when they were brought in. This was an elimination game with the season on the line. Breaking news, but A lot of people on here aren’t as smart as they think they are, and that includes me, but just like the idiot Merloni who said what he saw what  NOchet did last year is still living in last year. He hadn’t pitched since April, and to even ponder that he could come in, and be as good as last year has a good case of cerebralfecalitis.

So who was the best option?  Whitlock hacked it up later in the game.  A rookie who has thrown 1 inning of relief all year?  Weissert maybe, but he’s not a sure thing.

This was a spot where Guerrero being out may have hurt them, but we don’t know he’d have come through either.

Its easy to say somebody screwed up after the fact, but none of the critics have to make those decisions in real time.

Complain all you want about usage of the Red Sox pitching -- they used 10 pitchers and 8 gave up runs (all but Chapman and Weissert)...

... but this sums up the diff between NY and Boston: the Yanks' legitimate offense was so deep they could overcome the loss of their Hall of Famer, and not even start another 30-home run slugger -- Garcia, the NL slugging leader acquired in trade for 4 prospects.

The Red Sox' ghastly batting order, in contrast, slotted two players cut by non-contenders in key spots -- two years in a row:

Romy clean-up in '25, Jones leadoff in '26. In Beancounter Town, it's cheaper to pay an office full of Asst. VPs to scour the waiver wires than it is for established bats.

Well said. Last year, and this year there were to many P&P players in the playoffs lineup to do much more than just make an appearance.

A lot of people on here thought he was coming in as a shutdown reliever.

"Why are they bringing Miller in? They should bring in Crochet instead!"

Miller wasn't great, but he was a better option than Crochet like I said going into the series.

Gultyyyy but in Crochets defense - a strikeout/passed ball is not usually on a pitcher and Adley kind of came down with the yips and contreras needed to get infront of that bag.

Yup, the better options failed at other times. Maybe you have Sonny finish the inning and have Ranger finish the whole game? Aside from that, you need to rely on those bullpen arms at some point and none of them worked out.

Batting Abreu 4th against a lefty pitcher was ..... a choice.

Tracy had a rough series, I think thats fair. Lets hope he learned.  MVP is right, we are with Breslow and Tracy. Just gotta hope they learned something.

Easy to blame Adley for never catching Crochet before. In the gamethread, people were complaining that Adley wasn't hustling to the ball. What? The play was fine. The ball just hit the dirt and took a bad bounce. It happens. How about Crochet getting anyone else out?

What would your order have been? Abreu has been good against LHP this season. He's been a top of the order bat all season.

Yes Whitlock hacked it up later in the game, but at the time he would have been a better option than Miller who had pretty much sucked the last two weeks that carried over to the last two nights. Poor Tracy had to make decisions in real time. That’s what he gets paid for.

Nobody is blaming going to Whitlock there.  I thought that was perfect.

Mister 4 and 2/3's should have gotten his 2/3's of a season and that's it.

The winning streak was the worst thing for the franchise as they played over their heads and the FO bought in on fool's gold rather than selling.

Bad play by Adley, and Con Man no doubt.

The questionable bullpen moves are one thing, but the team's pitiful offense is a much bigger concern, I think.  The Sox scored 73 runs in their final 26 games.

I can back off of Adley, I think the throw after that which sailed into the OF makes it easy to just say he had a bad inning and put blame on him for the PB which was more bad luck.

I agree Crochet let us down.  And Miller.  The worst part is now that Joe Brady and Moon are going to talk about our top 3 needs are pitching, pitching, pitching

Taking Sonny out at that point was not the point.

A team that had the talent level of seller - despite having the third best starting pitching in the league - has some changes to make on the positional side of things? My concern is that at every position - you can justify rolling the same team forward + maybe adding Mead (but Sogard wasnt a problem) and maybe getting a LF/DH?

I dunno, they had the third best record in an admittedly lousy league.  Third best record should give you a shot at the pennant.

Pitching and defense isn't what allowed the Yankees to beat the Sox down.

NYY 26 H

BOS 7 H

Sox went all in on pitching and defense and the pitching and defense didn't show up when it mattered. The way to actually win is to be a well rounded team. You need to be top 10 at all facets of the game, not top 5 pitching/defense and bottom 5 offense.

They sure hit some rocket shots off Crochet... Not!

Tracy is fine.

The team has holes, but IMO not as many as some seem to think we have. I do see the point that having 7-8 just barely better than average players in the most key 15 roles may not work out well. It seems we've done a pretty good job reducing the black hole elements and building up a bench that appears to not be black holish either, but we last star power.

The only key guy we lose (possibly) is Gray.

One more control  year for Story & Yoshida might make signing a stud to a long range deal look more reasonable- budget wise.

These two games were embarrassing. That's being kind.

Also embarrassing is 73 runs in the last 26 games.  This was a team that could put up a ton of zeroes on both sides of the board.

Not when you have to face the Yankees right out of the gate even without Stanton, and JUDGE.

They need to take a good hard look and determine who is going to be around for the next several years. Anyone who they can't build around for 3-4 years (and rely on!) shouldn't be a part of the plan. Make trades to extend the window.

Players that could be gone after next season: Masa, Story, Conteras, Chapman, Whitlock, Houck, Rutschman, Oviedo

That's a huge turnover that doesn't even include a guy like Duran who people have soured on and Gray who seems like he doesn't want to be here going forward. They need to really figure out what this competitive window is and who should be included. They can't play it by ear year to year. There needs to be a real plan as their prospect pipeline has dried up and they no longer have the assets to deal from. This FO isn't able to successfully manage the FA market! How will they build the next WS team?

Should, but not when you are looking at how the talent is playing on the field. If the offense is 30th in runs in September, seems unlikely they are going to do damage in the WC round!

Tell Joe Brady when he returns to us tell us that the problem is our expectations and we should all be thanking breslow and tracy.
