I have watched Casablanca about 20 times. My all-time favorite film.

IMO, it is a flawless movie.  A lot of times, I wonder what I'd do differently in a movie.  There is nothing I would change after watching it 20 times.

It's usually picked second to Citizens Kane as the greatest film ever.

I would have put more than one bullet into that German officer.

And how excellent was Claude Rains.

One last thing about Casablanca. The actor the studio wanted to play Rick Blain was Ronald Reagan. He was unavailable at the time. THANK GOD!

There was no one in there that wasn't excellent.

Very true.

It's really funny to look at movies where alternate actors were taken.  Sometimes they aren't available, but sometimes the takes are so bad after a few weeks, that they just have to change the actor.

SSS. He chased and left bases loaded in a key situation.

Let's see what he does the rest of the game.

Yes, very SSS, but Romy did have some rehab games.

Arsenic and Old Lace.

Absolutely.

Best Peter Lorre movie

Best Cary Grant movie

Best Raymond Massey movie

Best Priscilla Lane movie (did she make any others?)

Best Charles Lane movie. (Which means something because he was in like 400 movies, unlike his slacker kinfolk Priscilla)

Best John Alexander movie (which also means something because he was in Casablanca for nearly 3 seconds)

Best Edward Everett Horton movie.  (Including his fine work on Bullwinkle)

Yes I do love that movie…

Actually I have heard George Raft was nearly cast as Rick Blaine, but he turned it down along with several other major roles that went to Bogart, including Roy Earle in High Sierra.

I have heard Reagan was nearly cast as Victor Laszlo instead of Paul Henried. But I can’t believe a B-movie player like Reagan would have gotten a lead in a major motion picture like Casablanca.  That would have been like giving the role of young Vito Corleone to Eric Roberts instead of DeNiro.

As this is a Red Sox forum, I’m sure you’re aware Casablanca was co-written by the grandfather and great uncle of Theo Epstein…

According to AI, Bogey was the intended choice to play Rick Blaine. It was a publicity stunt by WB to release to the press that Reagan was the first choice.

I should have looked that up before I made my original post.

Interesting information regarding Theo's grandfather.

Arsenic and Old Lace.

I watched that with a former gf.  She didn't laugh.  I knew immediately it was over.

Call me weird, but the 7 walks impressed me most, tonight.

Maybe the approach is improving?

CHW pitching is 27th in BB/9. Last night's starter is 150 out of 152 in bb rate for starters over 40 innings.

I think the pitching in this case was just that bad.

I hope it's a least a little bit of column A and column B.

So your DVD collection includes Chatterbox alongside the entire Air Bud franchise?  Can I safely assume Rubber and Tusk are also amongst your titles?

I don't know if I have Chatterbox anymore. That was on VHS. That movie is ridiculous for sure. I'm 99% sure I no longer have it as I don't have many VHS tapes left.

I saw Arsenic and Old Lace as a kid.  B&W, 100 years old, it couldn't possibly interest me.  I was literally laughing at loud almost the entire time.

I didn't get any part of 2001.  The only part that stood out was a bunch of apes beating up another ape for some reason.  Then I think they created a second sun, which would've wiped out the earth in about 15 minutes.

Well, since you actually did own Chatterbox, go watch Rubber.  Trust me.  Not that they’re similar in any way beyond both being so stupid you cannot help but wonder how they were pitched…
