He's back without a doubt.  No regrets on my part, though.  He's still a very expensive DH.

Not many people raised concerns at the time about the cost when his deal was signed. I guess I'm just not a buyer's remorse kinda guy. We all knew he'd end up a 1B/DH at some point.

And trading him was never on my bingo card until it happened.

I just find it easier to rationalize than trading Betts, I guess.  Anyway good for Raffy for starting to rake again.

For years Devers looked like a happy guy who loved the game. He often wore a wide smile, but was kinda on the quiet side. I always felt that was more of a language issue than being an introvert, but it was hard to tell.

I never got a hint of selfishness or insubordination, until the talk began about moving him off 3B. Nobody handled it well, including Devers.

Devers demonstrated over time that he would always be deficient defensively at 3rd base. While a power hitter, he sometimes showed inonsistency at the plate. To me it was a bad bet to give him such a lucrative contract. Moving him to first, even if he had been positive about it, was a questionabled bet. I'm happy that Breslow got out of that contract but unhappy that he didn't find a power bat for the team.

To me, the biggest two losses since Henry came here were Mookie and Orsillo. I go back and forth on which I would have rather kept. Both seem kind of unforgiveable. I think you can make a case that you needed to move Devers (not that I'd agree), Sox just haven't done well replacing his bat.

OPS

537 Mar/Apr

949 May

833 June

1150 July

738 Home

826 Away

6 game sample size in July.

The H-A splits are weird with the shape of the ball park.

I think he would have been fine at 1B. He has decent reflexes, and his arm was a major issue at 3B.

I'm glad we traded him without paying a big chunk of his deal.

We got Harrison who turned into Durbin. That may not be great, but it's better than Wong for Betts.
