Everybody that season had a Sox offense.  IIRC, Yaz was the only AL hitter to clear .300.  The All-Star game thst year was 1-0 on an unearned run.

I remember Danny Cater was 2nd in BA in the AL at .290. Sox immediately traded Sparky Lyle for him.

He has to pitch a shut out to win. This offense is non-existent. It looks like we were sold a bill of goods on Roman Anthony. He does not look good at all. Contreras and Abreu look like the only two hitters. Maybe Cedanne.

Looks like Anthony shot his entire wad at the WBC.

Another Fatse system casualty?

I don't see anything different with his plate approach from last season, except the minor problem of not putting good wood to the ball.

I'm sure Fatso will be sacrificed. Someone has to blamed for this lack of offense, even if it is Breslow's fault.

I'm pretty sure the weakness of this lineup is adding pressure to his at-bats.

Breslow.......looking at successful playoff teams, they all have power bats (ok, I'm making up that quote). So we'll focus on pitching and defense, instead. Looks like we're 0-2.

We complain about JH being cheap, but how about getting value for $1 spent Mr. Ivy Leaguer Breslow? How is that 2 year $18M deal working out for Sandoval? This team will never be World Series contender as long everything we do is 'layered'. No decisiveness from Cora or the management. We think as long as we have multitude of options, we'll be fine. We end up 40 mediocre players with versatility who suck at multiple positions. Hey, but Cora has options. It's a beautiful thing when it works. Cora throws his arm out patting himself on the back.

This offense is putrid and I don’t see it improving any time soon. Probably it is just bad and never will. In the meantime, wonder why the hitting coach still has a job in this team. It’s beyond me.

The Sox don’t have the worst lineup in MLB.  Not even close.  But theyre getting outscored by weaker lineups like Minnesota and St. Louis.

My theory is Cora is trying to get Breslow fired.  It does explain why Cora is suddenly so stupid…

I did look at last season’s game logs.  Anthony hit about .200 over his first 20 games, so who knows.

If/when Fatse goes, it will be no sacrifice.  I can think of literally no one who has improved under his tutelage here.  I read last week that  last season Bregman noticed something in Story’s swing and that is what led to Trevor’s good last 2/3 of the season.  Fatse did nothing.

So many things wrong where does one start? Even last year I could not understand them using Roman to bat leadoff, now I am convinced he is not a leadoff hitter. Durbin can't hit his damn weight anywhere in the lineup., They make every pitcher look like Cy Young. 0- 13 now when they do not get a Q.S. A serious bummer that Story did not take his op-out He will be gone before the season ends. Monasterio, and Kiner-Falefa on the same roster and they want to sell they are contenders??? The rest of baseball is playing home run derby and the Red Sox got a line up that reminds me of the 60's White Sox teams who had absolutely no power hitter. Mark Cuban please buy the Boston Red Sox.

Anthony guns down a runner at the plate. NESN had no choice but to show that throw -- a one-hop liner to erase a baserunner that touched 3rd when Roman had the ball (total disrespect by Detroit).

On every other ball hit to Anthony, the NESN camera shot was changed right when he released the ball on throws to the cut-offs... seriously, guys, are President Sammy and his CBO that insecure they ordered you to deny paying viewers from seeing something they're actually interested in?

Correct.  After 84 PA this year, Anthony has a .692 OPS.  After 81 PA last year, Anthony had a .637 OPS.

And from then forward last year, Anthony had a .941 OPS…

i think the answer to the Sox woes is for Henry to hire another half-dozen fluffers/nerds/VPs.

Actually they were a much better team when they focused on simpler metrics.  Just get back to OBP…

i bet he said they were "grinding" too.

I feel the grind.  From 5 GG yesterday "I just wanted to sit down on a Saturday afternoon with a beer and watch the ballgame... "

Just change that the 'Saturday' to 'Sunday', and my work here is finished.

that would be good. especially since the Sox have 3 players (Story, Duran & Durbin) in the bottom 13 players in the league in OBP. and they'd have 3 more (IKF, Mayer, Narvaez) if they had enough at bats.

if this doesn't get Fatso fired, nothing will.

This past winter I wrote that the offense would be bottom third because the cheapskate owner bought bums like IKF and Durbin rather than Schwarber or Alonso. I thought we’d finish fourth but it seems that was overly optimistic.

This team stinks!!!

He’s one of the few guys with talent on a team of bums.
At least the Bruins and Celtics have good franchises. Because this one stinks.
