It wasn't just Suarez: it was Baty and Suarez or Paredes and Suarez.

Again, why are we signing Suarez if we're getting Batty or Paredes? It just isn't happening. Even if we got rid of Masa and saved $10m.

How about a spitter?

Thats more of a palm ball right? I think its a completely different pitch.

I think when he said that, he had clarified that it was more of a daydream than it was realistic.

We are better team with Geno Suarez at DH AND Batty or Paredes in the infield.  It would move Cedanne to 2b and Mayer to AAA.

I dont think its going to happen either, but not with the same degree of confidence as you.

You make it sound like its 1.8% likely, Id prob put it at more like 8.1% likely.

But at least we can agree > 90% chance not happening

The whole context was dumping Masa and Hicks, so we could afford two bats not one.

No Masa= opening at DH.

If you don't think ESuarez > Masa, you have a point.

I think we need a RH'd power bat, so Suarez>Masa. We have enough LHBs.

No, I feel like it's more 1.8% possible ha!

I think the only way we see Suarez #2 is if his market craters and we get him on a cheap one year deal and live with this strikeouts and D. And even then, we'd need to trade salary to make it happen.

I just don't see any reasonable scenario where we get him and trade for another piece. They're going to roll with Mayer/Romy platoon at one of the position and enjoy the minuscule salary outlay.

Dumping Masa and/or Hicks is (I believe) eminently more difficult than you think it is.

We already have a DH in waiting between the four outfielders we have.

We're not going to trade Masa, Hicks, Duran/Abreu and sign Suarez. I know you like imagining scenarios where several trades and signings happens at once, and they're harmless of course, just as long we can agree it's mostly Cloud Cuckoo Land?

Yeah, I agree.  Like I said , Im at 8.1% likely that we'll get Geno AND a second starting caliber infielder, and I estimated you to be around 1.8% and if I undershot that , then we're probably at the same likelihood.  Longshot.

While I see no indication the Twins might part with Keaschall, would he fit the bill?

(We can't trade Mayer for him, unless we later trade an OF'er for a 3Bman like Paredes.)

To me, Keaschall and Paredes would put us top 3, even if we lost Mayer plus an OF'er or Tolle.

If we trade Mayer for Keaschell I will personally drive Breslow to the airport and JH will probably loan me his limo for the drive BUT ONLY IF I PAY FOR THE GAS !!

It is if you had a childhood in the UK.

And now a novel apparently. 🤔

So you would like it or hate it? Are you driving Breslow to the airport to kick him out of town or to get him to wherever he needs to get to finalize the trade??

If its a setting for a popular novel (especially a newish one) or even merely referenced in such popular novel, then I could see it as a trivia question one day and the champ of providence needs to keep himself sharp so i thank you for this nugget of information sincerely.

Cloud Cuckoo Land (typing it helps me commit to memory)

Cloud Cuckoo Land (typing it helps me commit to memory)

"Cloud cuckoo land" describes a state of fantastical, absurd, or unrealistic thinking, often used in the phrase "living in cloud cuckoo land" to describe someone detached from reality, overly optimistic, or naïve.

On the minuscule chance it comes up in a US based trivia night.

One of many phrases I routinely mention Stateside that leaves the locals in a state of utter bedazzlement. That's probably wishful thinking - bewildered is likely more fitting.

Id do that trade, too, but we'd still need another trade.

It would make more sense to trade an Of'er and/or a pitcher for him- maybe involving a third team.

If we get Paredes or Baty in a Duran trade, there is probably a -0- chance we get Suarez.  Masa will get 100% of the ABs against lefties righties.  You won't sign a $20M player to be the short end of a platoon.

i'd do it to get him there.

Again, that plan involved Masa going to the Mets to offset the Duran advantage over Baty,

The DH job would go to Suarez.

I'm not even sure I like the idea. I was just looking for a way to not get one big bat but to get two and make em fit, while affording it.

It got complicated.

One of the things that sparked my original response is that I'm not sure Suarez will materially out-perform Yoshi.  BR gives Suarez a 20-point advantage, but FG gives Yoshi a 23-point advantage.  A righty is better than a lefty but if the payroll nets to -0- between the two, I'd rather get a prospect rather than have the NYM pick up Yoshida's salary.

I get that point. Masa might hit .800. Even .765 might beat Suarez.
