I have predicted Casas in the Brez choice at 1B- it's not "my choice."

I see Gray as the #3 and Bello as the #4. I do NOT think we filled the #2 SP need, but if we get two big bats, I'd be okay with no pitcher additions.

I'm fine trading an OF'er not Mayer, but if we get KMarte and a 3Bman, then Mayer has no slot. If we get a 2B/3B and a 1Bman, then we need Mayer.

Its not going to be casas.  It might be someone cheapish/short-term candidate/someone else internally who they can push aside if casas re-emerges.  So they may go light on a plan A because they want to give casas a shot to win it back, but no way is casas plan A

Even if they sign nobody it still wont be casas as plan A

It will be Romy full time before its casas/romy

Okay: call it Romy plan A and Casas/Campbell plan B

I think Brez will start the season without any 1B additions.
It's not my wish.

Crochet is here for 5 more years.

Roman is here for 8 more years.

It's a big window.

I dont want to waste 2 of crochets 5 though.  Hes unlikely to stay healthy every year for 5.

Crochet blasted open the window and every year in which we arent aggressively trying to capitalize on our awesome ace is a waste.

Id rather trade Crochet than half-ass any of his years.  Cuz he deserves better.

Yes, the second bat is the one that would put us too far over the tax line for JH to approve, unless it's a trade for Y Diaz or someone like him.

Hicks and Casas for Contreras?

Masa, cash and Casas for Contreras?

Let's revisit how half assed this offseason was on March 1. For now?

Why do you think that?

I think they try to get St louis to eat some money on contreras and if they cant , they get like an ohearn or hoskins.  Maybe someone more who can "compete" for the job vs someone who comes at a price point that reflects its THEIR job

I 100% agree that as long as Crochet is here, we should try to add what is needed.

We may disagree on how much of the future we should give up for the here and now. I am not for trading away top prospects or controlled players for one and done options, unless we know we can and will extend them.

I'm against trading Crochet for another rebuild, but I see your point. If we refuse to build a top 3-4 team, then I'd rather do as you point out.

Sure. Im not saying we're def screwed at this exact point in time. I'm saying that I disagree that we shouldnt be passive about building a competetive team due to having crochet for 5 more years because we dont know he'll stay healthy and every year we waste from him (if its anything like last year) is awful.

And I get that its debatable whether we wasted last year, but all of my friends who are not red sox fans (so neutral) say yes.  My friend (and he played 2b for Umass) said, if you were trying....if you were half serious .... you would have at least gotten josh naylor

Crochet is my favorite player on the team.  If we are gong to buy and sell or half-in / half-out or be content with mediocrity, we should set my favorite player free.

And we should all pick second favorite teams.  Im picking Arizona for secondary allegiance. Hope we dont trade Marte.

I do not think Brez will be allowed to go far over the fist tax line and maybe not close to line 2. I may be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. I'm not expecting us to spend big.

I'm not sure Brez is willing to trade as much  as I am, and I'm not for trading a big chunk of our top prospects, either, but I'm probably okay with more than Brez is.

They have neglected 1B for many years, and in many, we did not have someone as good as Romy to back up Casas. That is why I think they focus spending and trades on 2B/3B and then maybe SP2 before we look at 1B.

I've been saying 3 major fills needed, but I never expected 3. I thought 2 was probably wishful thinking.

They probably think Gray filled the #2 SP'er slot and Oviedo offers some hope for an upgrade at another rotation slot that makes up for not getting a true #2.

I think they have one major move left. (Yes, we can afford 2, but I'm done getting my hopes up too high.) That one is 2B or 3B with Mayer filling the other- perhaps in a platoon with Romy, if Romy is not our primary 1Bman.

I wish we got Alonso, Ryan & Marte, but that's all it was.

My second favorite team is the Sea Dogs.

I'm not saying to be passive, just not to put all your eggs in 2025.

Instead of signing Bregman, sign Bo as he should be better longer.

If you're trading for Marte, anticipate that he'll be a 1B in a few years and that you may need to replace both MIF in 2028.

You can make moves for today without bungling the future.

You mean 2026?

Your "mistakes" are piling up.

I think KMarte can play 2B for his full 5 years left.

trying to land a verbal knockout, but this reads as petty. Point deducted.

I thought you loved cliffs? Shouldn't you be worried about Marte's defense heading towards one!

I violently (talksox word) disagree….. crochet could be like Sale. Miss 2 seasons, you have to work within a 2-3 window. Way too many variables.

Like Sale, he could be injured the next 2-3 years and be fine the final 2.

The way 2B has looked for the last decade, he'd be better at age 46.

I predict they will, like last year, go above the luxury tax line.

they’ve stated in the past a willingness to do so when they feel they can be competitive, and I believe they think they can take a step forward and it will take an investment to improve the rotation and the infield

Well the verdict is in, the Sox have spent and gone well above the first luxury tax threshold.

Above the second luxury tax threshold actually.

This is the luxury tax thread. You want the "predicting C payroll" thread.
