Greenwell, along with Clemens, played on four AL East champions in Boston: '86, 88, 90, 95.

Red Sox could use a few more Mike Greenwells in the batting order...

162-game averages for a 12-year career: 17 HR, 93 RBI, .303 BA, .368/.463/.831, and a 7% K-rate.

... I always liked Mike because he always hustled. It was a pre-Manny, pre-Raffy time when all players ran out  comebackers to the mound, and sprinted to back up fellow outfielders.

He was very consistent. If you throw out the 202 PA 1992 season, he hit between .297 and .328, every other season from 1985 to 1993.

He dropped off sharply at age 30 and was out of baseball after his age 32 season.

He had several seasons with more BBs than K's, including his fantastic 1988 season, where he walked 87 times and K'd just 38 times. How many times does someone walk more than twice their K total?

1988: .325  22 119 (.416 OBP/ .531 SLG/ .956 OPS)

He had a .570 SLG in 1987, but only got over .460 one other time.

RIP.  I was a fan of his game.  He played with a lot of great players (from Rice, Boggs, Clemons, Evans, Buckner, Burks, Dawson, Baylor, Henderson, Pena, Vaughn, Reed, Barrett, Armas...).

Probably MLB’s all time leader in fewest pitches per at bat.  The Gator was a pure hitter.  RIP

Could be.

He is coholder of the MLB record for most putouts in an inning by a catcher, which of course is 3.  Yes, he actually caught 1 inning in 1987 in the 10th inning of a game against the A's. Unfortunately, the A's scored 7 times but all three outs were by strikeout.

Didn't Mike return a salary from a Japanese team because he had played so badly for them?  RIP

He got injured early on and retired.
