If Lorenzen can get $8M/1, maybe guys like Crawford, Sandoval and Harrison are worth more than we think.

I've been saying...

Maybe, someday, we'll be glad we have Ranger not Breggie, just like nobody talking about wishing Bogey was here, anymore.

How many fans wanted Montgomery and Snell?  People's memories are occasionally selective.

Untrue.

Very true.  If we had signed Montgomery and Snell two years ago, simply because we handed out huge contracts, would that have been a positive or a negative?  If all you need is to have someone outbid everyone, I can handle that job for a mere $1M a year.

And people are big mad that the Dodgers are "ruining baseball." Maybe the Red Sox should try that?

Yes, mocking is the way of the world.

Meh.  We ruined it for a couple of years, the NYY ruined it before that.  FWIW, the LAD only finished 4 games ahead of us.  I don't really care how teams and players split my money, but IMHO, the folks that hurt the salary structure are the ones paying big money for mediocre teams.  The Angels spent $221M on a bad team, and the Rox spent $149M and they don't have a single player that could've made the Angels.

Let’s look at the crochet trade for all 3 gm’s

1.) desperate Dave could not have made the crochet trade because his farm system was a barren waste land!!!

2.) hang’em Chaim would not have made that trade because he overvalues prospects and has something against high end pitching!!!

3.) only bres-slow had the guts to risk such quality and quantity on a pitcher. I believe that because bres-slow was a former pitcher, he saw something in crochet that told him this guy was special!!

Dave made the Crochet trade... errr...I mean the Sale trade.

Sale was in his HOF prime at the time, and was fortunate enough to have two top prospects that BC supplied to him.  Just like Breslow was fortunate enough to have Bloom's prospects.

And Cherington only had the #2 prospect because Henry purchased that #2 prospect for him.  All of this is a gigantic circle about who gets credit.

Yes, and Sale had 3 years of control.

DD did have the prospects to trade- just not mostly his.

The ones of his he kept worked out well.

Tucker to the DODGERS! Another great signing.

$240M x 4 with 2 opts out. I know you love opt outs.

even if i had twice the money the dodgers do, i wouldn't give him that much.

It's silly.

It's like monopoly money.

It's like Bregman's contract plus $20M a year and a 4th year!

I'm glad LA is in the NL.

Interesting times.  Even when the NYY were the EE, they didn't sign guys as rapidly.  Duran has a lot higher bWAR over the past two years.  In fact, both Duran and Ceddanne had higher bWARs last year, and Abreu's bWAR/PA was identical to Tucker.

Merloni predicts Abreu is going to bust out and become one of MLBs best all around players. (He's going to play vs LHPs, too.)

I can only hope that Lou's prognostication is accurate because Abreu  otherwise  becomes this team's Trot Nixon, a serious competitor but not a star player

My experience is that Lou is almost always right.  Even when I've thought things out deeply, if Lou disagrees, I go back to my abacus.

The dodgers have tried to trade for abreau all offseason!!   I applaud bres-slow for not trading any of our outfielders.

with the Suarez signing, someone from our 40 man roster has to leave!!    Goodbye Jovani??

Teams are allowed to spend money? Is that how the world works? I thought there were CBT limits that they have to get under every few years!

He's not worth 60M a year. He was worth 40M in his best year. Stupid big overpay. His HR numbers should go up in LA though.

I like the line "almost always right" because no one can be right all the time, but when it comes to all things baseball I trust Lou more than most. He's almost always spot on.

ehhhh....see what I did there?

I think one thing is abundantly clear, if the Sox make a move for an infielder (and I think they have to and will).

It's going to be a trade, it's not going to be Bo.  If we could assume Bo gets $30 million a year, right now that would cost John Henry $45 million a year (base salary plus luxury taxes) plus they will be forfeiting their 3rd and 6th round draft picks next year (on top of their 2nd and 5th).

In total (with the Suarez signing) the Sox will have forfeited their 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th round draft picks, $1 million in international bonus pool money AND pay a total of $321.5 million dollars in total payroll (cash + tax).

Not only are they not going to do that, I wouldn't want them to.

No chance they sign someone right?

I mean, Sox probably make more signings, but small ball stuff not worth predicting.

He has to stay healthy, and hit LHP first, and foremost, which both are big ifs. Merloni?🤭

It's not like Abreu has been hurt a lot. His lower PAs is more about being platooned, but that is apparently ending, this year.

I could be wrong, but I think Duran missed more time due to injuries than Abreu since 2023.

Maybe 2025 was a sign he can hit lefties better than Duran:

.676 vs .600
