Here's a fun statistical nugget: if the Red Sox win by six tonight, they will have doubled the Jays' run differential on the season. Funny how this sport works sometimes.

Sure is.

Crochet vs Scherzer has to give the Sox the edge tonight.  However, last night the better pitcher, Gausman, did not prevail.

I disagree that Abreu is a "wild card" although I'm certainly hoping he can help.  Last night the 7th and 9th batters--Lowe and Narvaez--batted in all 4 Sox runs.  So it would be nice if Abreu could get an rbi or score a run now and then.

Yoshida lately looks like the guy Chaim Bloom signed.  Rafaela seems to have reverted back to his June/July self--OPS .810 in last 7 games.  Same 7 days, Yoshida's OPS is .843, Lowe 1.031, Gonzalez .903, Bregman .838,

Last night the Sox bullpen went 4.1 innings without giving up a hit or a run.

Tigers and Sox both play Thursday night and must fly to Boston to start final series the next day.  .  Cleveland and Toronto are about the same flight time.

Abreu scored a run last night.

Brown vs Severino tonight. Severino has a 821 OPS at home and hates pitching there so much he tried forcing his way out of town.

Sox need to keep winning. They aren't getting outside help tonight.

Sox have to win, agreed.  I do like the A's as a spoiler though.

The only time Abreu came up with a runner in scoring position, Rafaela got thrown out at home. It's not like he k'd looking.

Abreu last night was worlds better than his first game.

Go Sox (Red)!

You don't need to worry about the other Sox.  The south siders will always find a way to lose

Winning stops a lot of whining !  It would be helpful to get to Scherzer early and  work the BJ  BP .    Give Crochet good support in his last regular season start, which also sets him up for opening the WC round.

Crochet should cross the 200 IP mark tonight which is a huge contribution  to this playoff race.

If the sox had a 3 or 4 run lead after 5, would Cora pull Crochet  to try and save some  energy ?

I say no, if Garrett is rolling Cora will try to get 7 from him, depends on pitch count , but there's no saving anyone until the WC slot is locked down.

It's his last start of the regular season. I'd keep him out there to help wrap this playoff spot up.

This game might be the difference!  Can our ace out-duel the Hall of Fame vet?  It was a good move moving the rotation to allow Crochet to start the playoff if we get in.

To those who say pitchers should not win the MVP, because they only pitch every 5 games. I realize they are not part of those 4 in 5 games, but they more than make up for it in the one they do play in.

Consider this...

Crochet has 788 PAs against, and he should go over 800 tonight.

How many everyday players get 800+ PAs in a season?

BTW, Bello has 677 and Gio 613 against.

Sherzer struggles in first. Duran better not K

Duran simply cannot lead off every game with a K.  Bat him 7th
