If they don’t make the playoffs my bet is that either Cora or Breslow will be fired. As for Bregman I can’t see him opting out. Too much time missed;; too old; and too inconsistent. He didn’t do himself any favors the way he finished the season.

Bullpen was amazing. Even Wilson wasn't catastrophically bad. Yes, the walk sucked, but the 2 run single came off a good pitch that the batter just kind of poked at. Very different from Weissert's center-center meatball in the previous game.

Great bunt by Narvarez.  High pitch but he stayed up with it.  I’m giving Cora a little credit here too for not pitch running for Bregman - maybe he sensed that a hit was not going to happen in the 9th and that Eaton would be the ghost runner in the 10th.  Pinch hitting for Rafaela was just a no brainer for me.  Say what you want about Sogard he is a contact hitter.  I like guys who can actually make contact.

Gotta credit Cora for saving and using his bench to win in the end: Eaton replaced Ref to be the ghost runner, and Sogard replaced Ceddanne to pinch-touch-the-ball and plate the gamer.

And let's not forget it was all set up by Narvaez' bunt, which moved the winning run to 3rd with one out.

The Red Sox are now 8-12 in extra inning games. Not sure how many of those 12 losses came at home, but gotta wonder how many more Ws the Sox would have if all year they just used the simple strategy of sac bunt, and put the ball in play. Half? A third? A quarter?

Imagine how we'd all feel right now if Boston had just three more victories in the standings. Sac bunt, make contact, celebrate.

Even if you hate this team, (and I sure do--the first time I find myself actively rooting  against them in the last half-century--well, maybe the second time given the Valentine year), I don't see how to deny the fact that they are 14 games over .500--way more successful than many of the teams we've loved in the past.
