there is a weird thing about this whole affair...but I think '04 was about getting the defensive minded Cabrera to complete the puzzle at SS and then adding Roberts (a la Hamilton) for stealing bases and Mankayvitch (phonetic spelling) for backup 1b...Nomar was batting .321 after coming back from an injury layoff, not like he wasn't hitting--his defense range declined.

Per Mass Live

Friday, 7:10 p.m. ET — RHP Hunter Brown (9-5, 2.54 ERA) vs. TBA

Saturday, 4:10 p.m. ET — LHP Colton Gordon (4-3, 4.74 ERA) vs. RHP Walker Buehler (6-6, 5.72 ERA)

Sunday, 11:35 a.m. ET — LHP Framber Valdez (11-4, 2.62 ERA) vs. RHP Lucas Giolito (7-2, 3.80 ERA)

How can they be so stupid? I think that TBA is Crochet......Buehler pitches after Crochet. Lazy writers.

They've already announced Crochet will be skipped on Friday; nothing wrong, just a preplanned break.  And before you start screaming they are babying him, it's not unusual for teams to do that with pitchers who have thrown a lot of innings, and August is often a month they do it in.

If Wong is hitting doubles, Sox should be winning this game easily. Twins must be tanking.

They should baby him! He’ll throw a career high in innings this year and may need bullets for the playoffs.

I certainly don't think Crochet is being babied. I did not see that second article. My bad.....it just seem weird that they had TBD.

That was me being stupid.

Wong's OPS last year was .758 in 126 games.    In fact I think he played 1b a couple of times because of his bat.

Reportedly, his framing has improved this year.

There was an article on here earlier this season about his 24 numbers being built on luck.

Heck, last time I looked he led MLB in IP.  So of course I'm for it.

The mods are right.  We need to dump Duran ASAP.

Moderators have said nothing of the sort.

Of course it was luck.   It's important never to say anything good about him.

His defense has improved. There, I said something nice.

That's been topic 1 for at least a month, and the reasoning was that the Sox have too many outfielders--kind of like the Austrian Emperor telling Mozart his opera had too many notes.  When the Sox refused to exchange Duran for Cease, Breslow was criticized right here on talksox.

Mr Golito's latest article claims Cease is better than Bello, which would make him a fair exchange for Duran (despite the facetious "lock Duran up" claim).  Cease's WAR,  0.5, is 12th best among Padres pitchers.

I would be dishonest if I didn't admit I too was ready to dump Duran, but I said so because I thought the Sox would get good value in return.  However, right now, today, we're being told yet again how great Cease is.  Duran's WAR, +3.0,  is 3d best among lineup players on the Sox.

I can’t even imagine how disruptive it must have been in the clubhouse having young impressionable rookies sitting next to a guy who refused to do what was best for the team. Now the rookies have learned that if you’re not a team player you’re not on the team.

And of course telling rookies to toe management line or be prepared to be traded or in their case sent down is IN NO WAY disruptive or intimidating.

It’s the rules of the game. Baseball is a team sport. If a player doesn’t accept that then they SHOULD be off the team. There’s only one manager, one GM. The players get paid a lot of money to do what’s best for the TEAM, not for themselves.

Decent game for Duran to boost his trade value for a rental starter!

I doubt Duran's going anywhere. Breslow's going after a #4 starter. Perhaps Charlie Morton.

Big win.

Good to see Bello doing well with Wong, again.

Nice to see Wong wake up his bat from a long slumber.

The way Duran is playing, it would be very hard to trade him. Without knowing more about Mayer (and the need for Rafaela at 2B or not) trading an OF'er might not happen.

I was going to say - I’ve been strongly opposed to trading Duran all season and I don’t think you or Bellhorn has really been advocating for it lol.

I was being sarcastic due to all the trading Duran threads, articles and arguments.
