Raffy may end up being the best of the young crowd.

He’s in SF.

Hamilton is truly awful in the field.  Giolito is right for calling him out after that botched 3rd out  grounder ..

When Bregman does come back in very soon, David should be on the chopping block, despite his speed on the bases.

Great to see the Sox hitters super supporting a  strong start by Giolito, who has seemed to find himself after a season and a half

July 4th in Washington D.C! Of course it's a morning game...

Been there, done that.  However, best place to watch the fireworks is from Fort Myer, VA.

Hamilton's DWAR is +1.0, 3d best on the Sox--and in just 53 games.  But I agree he is the mostly likely departure when Bregman returns.  His OPS is .498.

I assume that's sarcasm.  I like him, myself, even though I agree he is overpaid, which means the Sox are stuck with him. Right now he is in fact affordable, maybe even more so than Raffy at DH.

My goodness, what a terrific grab by Rafaela!

totally agree. once Bregman is back, Hamilton should be launched into the sun.

It does seem that the starting pitching , overall, is getting better and deeper into games.  The hitting is improving with several large run outbursts recently.    The rookies are participating with contributions.

One wants to think these guys could could be even better with Bregman back, and players in fixed positions for awhile.

OTOH,  it would take 2 series wins  ( 2-1 each) just to settle once again at .500  .   Really need to pound the subpar Nats and Rockies before facing TB for 4 prior to the A-S break.

Just a late thought watching Whitlock in the 9th.

He had not pitched since last Sunday, and was throwing soft stuff on most pitches, and they were getting hit fairly hard.   He did throw one pitch at 98, so he can cut loose.

Whitlock is a fairly average pitcher who has been thought to be a long reliever due to his starting experience. Sort of hard to see that now. I think he is a one inning middle reliever who may have a physical issue limiting his game.

Another impressive start from Gio. He, Crochet and Bello have been consistently good for quite a while.

I hope he can stay healthy and continue to build on his good month of June. With what the Sox have invested they need him to contribute, both offensively and defensively. Mayer can play second (or third if Bregman opts out). Maybe Campbell comes back as a first baseman and Casas can be a DH/1B if he is not traded. Cedanne is really starting to develop and may explode next year with more experience. They have four good outfielders now. Navarez looks like a keeper at catcher. With Crochet as the anchor, they need to get a solid rotation for next year. If they can tighten up the defense and play more fundamental baseball, they could be a really good team next season,.

You know the Sox must have won when the game thread is this short.  Oh, how talksoxers yearn to beat up the Sox, their manager, the front office, the owner, who ever.

Imagine the disappointment if the Sox make the postseason:  "we was robbed.  They still stink."

Yes, Hamilton helps both defenses…

Maybe people have other plans for the 4th.

We aren't a playoff team. We should not be buyers at the deadline pretending we are.

Big crowd at Nationals Park today because the fireworks aren't until tonight.

Happy 4th, everyone!!

I'm watching the Boston fireworks after watching DC's and NYC's--with my wife of 61 years.  They are spectacular and for us the best part of the 4th.

I don't think the Declaration gets signed on July 4 if GW and the Continental Army don't drive the British out of Boston--never to return--in March 1776.  How they did it is a saga unto itself.  The  vast majority of the 1776 Continental Army came from the Massachusetts militia.
