The big question is whether the good series Story just had means anything.  Did he make a little tweak in his mechanics that paid off?

I'll wait for mvp's Captain Nemo report on the pitches Story hit.

The most exciting swing he had was on an out. 97 mph heater he took to deep CF against Scwellenbach with exit velo of 103. It would have been out of Fenway per Statcast. He has been awful against 4 seamers all year and he had a nice rip on this one. If he keeps swinging like this on 4 seamers, he's good to go.

I’ve been all for giving Story a chance, but I think it’s simply time to bench or DFA him.

Play Toro at 1b, Campbell at 2b, Romy at 3b and Mayer at SS full time until injured players start returning and selfish DHs get their heads out of the glutes.

Campbell and/or Mayer might struggle as much as Story, but at least they would both be doing so as part of a learning curve as opposed to a decline…

We will see these moves, plus a fulltime opening in the outfield for Anthony, when the front office and management finally acknowledge publicly that it's a Bridge Year -- a creaky bamboo wooden bridge swinging over the gorge.

Impatients may cringe at times watching youngsters adjust to the big leagues, but they know they no longer want to watch washed up veterans on the Dying Dutchman in the Dead Sea.

Trevah Novella is seeing some rising action in the plot curve.

Maybe it's just taken some time to shake all those cobwebs off.

Even if you just go from ATL series to now:

874 OPS, 34% K

If this is him locked in, he's still in trouble IMO. He's had some big at bats and nice games, but he's not really a guy I'm ready to anoint as "being back." I'm glad he's hitting, but he needs to do it longer than a week stretch and a few games here or there.

Agree. He's got more to prove before saying, "He's back."

Once again Story Land continues to stay open, and he couldn’t do it without all your loyal support. Keep up the good work, because Story Land isn’t ready to shut down just yet.

I am pulling for Story probably harder than I'm pulling for any other player on the Red Sox this season.  It's still a very lonely ride on his bandwagon.  Very small sample, but the month of June has been good.  Fingers crossed that it continues.

I'm feeling better about his chances at settling in at a more reasonable offensive production level, than we saw before this June and during much of his sporadic playing time since the signing. The guy was a decent hitter, before the injury, and even if you look at just his road splits with COL, he was not bad. (.752 Away '16-'21) I know, that seems so long ago, but the league average OPS was between .713 and .749, those seasons.

The guy was 4th in OPS for a SS over those 6 years! (Top 30 overall) Nobody expects anywhere near that, now, but he's still just 32, and certainly not overworked the last few years.

I'd be okay with .700 to .725 the rest of the way, with improved defense (maybe at 2B.) I'll not be surprised, if he can bat .750 the rest of the way, but I would not bet on that. He sharp drop on D is most worrisome, to me. Mayer at SS and Story at 2B makes more sense, but with KC and Anthony on the 26, where would KC play?

I pretty much agree Moon.  I don't expect Story to hit like he hit the first 3 weeks of April, but he is certainly capable of a lot better than what we saw in May.

As far as the defense goes, Story has made a few really nice plays the past few games.  His overall defensive numbers are down right now, but defensive stats take a much larger sample to stabilize.  Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I'm optimistic that he'll be a valuable contributor on both sides of the ball.  I would not be opposed to moving him to 2B when Bregman returns.

Campbell to first base?  In a small sample, Romy and Toro have been pretty good there.

As they say, I guess it's a good problem to have.  As they also say, these things have a way of working themselves out.

They do usually work themselves out, and assuming total health is almost always folly. It is a good problem to have, and quite unusual for a team with the 4th or 5th worst record in the AL.

We will have some hard choices in the months to come, unless we have some more injuries. If we do have some major injuries, then not only is the choice problem solved, teh choices won't matter until this winter and next season, anyway.

I like to look ahead and wonder "what if." That's a trait that is not always worthwhile.

Assuming everyone remains healthy, I don't know what the answer is when Abreu and Bregman return.  Personally, I like to keep as much depth as possible.  That typically means that guys with options get sent down.  That is usually not the popular decision, nor is it necessarily the right decision.

It is great to have and keep depth, but when you have some pretty big holes in the 26, it seems to make sense to trade from strength and fill those needs.

I don't disagree.  While I really don't want to trade any of our current outfielders, I think it goes without saying that if the right trade comes along, you make the trade.

I like em all, too. To me Rafaela seems like "the one" to trade, but we mostly hear Duran ("sell high") and Abreu ("platoon.") On the platoon aspect of Abreu, his numbers vs LHPs are worse than Rafaela's, but if you played both FT at 600 PAs, Abreu would have a higher OPS, so keeping Rafaela for offense reasons does not ring true, to me.

Since I truly believe Anthony will be better than all 3 of our vets, I don't trade him.

Since I posted this, Story has a 1.084 OPS…

This seems to happen more often than we think, and to all of us.

Sometimes patience is rewarded: sometimes it is not.

Maybe Story slumps, again, and you could end up being proven right.

His defense has improved, greatly too.

I hope he balls out and improves his trade value.

Sox invested money in Story and I predict he gets injured by August. He is a disastrous signing for so many reasons.  Contact hitting is not his thing either..all or nothing...

B-R is a little kinder to Story at 1.0.

I don't agree with their calculation of dWAR and how it factors into the total value. His bat has been pretty brutal and his glove has just been ok. FanGraphs gives him an FRV of -2.
