Wonder where these picks will slot in the next rankings as Mayer and then Anthony graduate

Soxprospects has said the following (not counting Mayer/Anthony Graduations)

Witherspoon - between 4-7

Phillips - between 12-15

Godbout - between 25-30

Eyanson - 12-15

It's not that he hates 4 seamers, it's that he hates BAD 4 seamers. If a pitcher has a good 4 seamer, he can throw it. The more interesting part about Witherspoon is that he's a bit smaller than the guys Breslow has targeted, but was probably taken because he was the best available.

Phillips is a big body guy that if developed well can stay as a starter. Not a lot of innings on his arm, but really needs some work and is a high variance arm. Some project as a reliever.

Anthony Eyanson, the other college RHP,  should stick at starter due to build and has multiple above average pitches. Most likely is a well above slot signing.

The 2b/ss, Henry Godbout, is a contact first guy with very little power. Probably very similar to a Nick Yorke profile when you factor in the defensive issues as well.

As far as Godbout goes - from at least the usual suspects (Law, Longenhagen, McDaniel, Callis) it seems mostly confident he will be fine at 2B.

They said on last night's podcast that Witherspoon would probably rank 6th (in the Arias/Garcia/Perales tier) with the Phillips and Eyanson around 12-15. Godbout would be closer to 30.

The only unfun thing about these three guys is that they probably won't pitch very much this season as they'll spend most of their time in the lab. 🥼

My guess is Witherspoon slots in comfortably in the Top 5.

If we assume the graduates are out of the prospect pool (Mayer, Anthony) ... what are we looking at

Arias, Garcia, Perales, Witherspoon, Tolle ... in some order, that seems plausible

Tolle #1 100%

Arias most likely #2

Perales/Garcia/Witherspoon in some order

I’d put Jh Garcia 2.

1. Tolle

2. Garcia

3. Arias

4. Perales

5. Whitherspoon

6. Clarke

7. Tibbs

8. Early

9. Valera

10. Romero

The guys at SP are worried about his hit tool and his platoon issues. We'll see where they end up ranking him.

Arias is such a great defender at a tough position that there is not much focus on doubts with his offense.

Jh Garcia is pretty damn good on D and can play CF or RF. Hes hit over .820 vs RHP the last 2 seasons

It's really tough to say, beacuse the Soxprospects crew didn't specify if the projected rankings included Anthony and Mayer or if it figures them to graduate.

Based on their definition of prospect eligibility it looks like Mayer might graduate and Anthony could just fall short, but assuming they both do I'd figure something like this. Maybe if both Marcelo and Anthony graduate then Phillips or Eyanson sneaks in at 10 but regardless that's 7 of your top 10 prospects being pitchers.  The system is officially going to be pitcher heavy.

Payton Tolle

Franklin Arias

Luis Perales

Jhostynxon Garcia

Kyson Witherspoon

James Tibbs

Brandon Clarke

Juan Valera

Connelly Early

David Sandlin

Breslow's strategy to stockpile pitching in the draft could now make Tolle expendable as a major trade chip... if he's not called up to Boston soon as a power arm option for the bullpen.

The Red Sox selected 15 pitchers out of their 21 picks, and apparently the scouting department relied on Disneyland analytics: Must be at least 6'5" to ride to Fenway.

If all 15 drafted pitchers stood on each other's shoulders they might not be as high as the John Hancock Building -- but they'd tower over the new John Henry Building (as usual, under construction).

I am pretty sure both Mayer and Anthony will burn their rookie eligibility - so removing them from the field I think is fair.

Garcia has done better with his swing decisions.  He still might not be a great OBP guy, but a plus RF with his power is still a totally reasonable starter if that can be actualized.

Mayer definitely will, I thought it would be close for anthony but the Soxprospects definition is about 20 at bats lower than I thought.  He will likely get 30 at bats by the end of the month.

I mean........I would like to see a homegrown ace, maybe we can hold off on our top end pitching talent for at least a year.

I don't wanna see Tolle/Perales/Valera go.   Of course, it all depends on the return.

They said they are under the assumption that Anthony graduates prior to AUG. I believe only Witherspoon will crack the top 10 from what they've said. We're not going to see these guys or get a lot of reports until spring, so they may be more conservative with Phillips and Eyanson.

Last year, we shut down the college pitchers after we signed them. I expect the same this year!!

Yes, but there is still a limit to the amount of guys they can have in the system. Reserve List is currently at 152 of 165. They need to probably release at least 5 more guys (prob non-Breslow pitchers like Rogers, Bolden, Bryant).

The last day of the FCL regular season is 7/24. Guys from there will either be either moved to Salem or just scrimmage for the remainder of the year.

One could also argue that some our everyday prospects poised to jump into the top 10 did not impress enough, this year, to jump or stay ahead of some pitchers that have looked real good.

Bleis, Cespedes and Castro

Jordan and Romero jumped up but were too far behind to jump way up to top 5 or 10.

Gonzalez is a possibility. I’m higher on Jo Garcia than most, but hes too far away to be top 10.

Arias has fallen back some, while Jh Garcia is looking for real!

Here are some numbers to ponder:
DSL (small sample sizes)

.875 Dorian Soto

.871 Franklin Primera

0.00 Wascar Berroa (9IP)

FCL

.963 Alexander Mambel

.837 Anderson Fermin

1.20 ERA Jose Bello (8IP), Jackson Gamboa 1.26 (14 IP), 1.57 Cordero (23 IP)

Not going to get hot and bothered over DSL and FCL numbers. Need to see these guys in SAL. We saw what happened with Cespedes and Bleis early on.

These college kids will fill many slots, most likely in '26.

Some starters will be pen bound.
