Nelly Taylor also had a 3 BB night. Top 4 hitters had 9 BB's and only 1 K last night for GRE.

I think some might be underestimating just how good our non pitching prospects are.

I also see so many young players on the 40 that are locked up for 3 or more years, so the need for replenishments from the farm should be minimal.

1B (Casas hurt?) Campbell/Romy & Toro (Jh Garcia?)

3B (Bregman bolts?) Mayer, Romero

2B (Mayer or Story hurt?) Arias, Romero

There is always player turnover due to injury or poor performance. Just because it looks good now, doesn't mean it won't drive off a cliff.

C - Narvaez should be good enough if the defense holds. Wong - DFA.

1B - Casas - Yuck. Campbell - we'll see. Toro is replaceable.

2B - Romy is good for now, but "for now" should be emphasized. Mayer is injured every season. Grissom - DFA. Hamilton - DFA. Sogard/Eaton - who cares.

SS - Story looks great right now, but his contract has been called an albatross and many wanted him DFA'd before this hot stretch.

3B - Bregman is most likely testing the market.

RF - Anthony should probably be the guy for the next 9 years here. Is Abreu even needed anymore?

CF - Rafaela should probably be the guy until his contract runs out, but he'll be used as a UTIL unfortunately.

LF - Duran should probably be the guy until his contract runs out since he can back up CF. Garcia may get traded due to backlog. Refsnyder may not be re-signed. Masa has had a rough year and is very disliked by Cora.

Of course a wheel or two can come off the tracks, but we have pretty decent depth on the 40, already for all but C, 1B and 2B/3B, assuming Bregman returns.

Even then, we have Campbell (1B and maybe 2B,) Arias & Romero (SS/3B/2B) and maybe Jo Garcia, who should be ready by the time Wong's time is up.

We could also trade an OF'er for a 1Bman, 2Bman, and  or C.

I'm not sure we have ever seen and everyday roster so set up for the long run as now.

8-9 Anthony

7 Rafaela & Campbell

5+ Jh Garcia

5 Narvaez, Mayer, Sogard & Eaton

4 DHam & Grissom

3 Duran, Wong, Romy, Casas & Story (if no opt out & no Sox adding 4th yr)

2 Toro, Yoshida

0-3 Bregman

0 Refsnyder (may return or retire)

We do lack 2026 AAA ML ready prospects, but it looks like we may not need any.

It looks like Romero (3B/2B) Hickey (DH/C/1B) Eaton (UT) and Castro (OF) are the only possible ML prospects ready as everyday players. (Rosier, Sikes, McDonough and Liendo I don't count.)

1-2 years down the road:

C: Jo Garcia & Brannon

1B: Brannon & Anderson

2B: Cespedes, Alcantara & Godbout

SS: Arias & White

3B: Riemer & Nunez

OF: Taylor, Bleis, Gonzales, Y Rod (Cespedes?)

Not great but should be enough. We will be adding more in the next few years.

Harrison seemed like the prize of the Devers trade, to me.

One could argue Criswell should get another start, too.

Uberstine finished the game going 4 IP, 3H, 1ER, 2BB, 8K. 15 Ks for Woos pitchers!

GRE won 7-3 as Jo Garcia continues to shine. He homered and walked and is up to .745, now. Cohen pitched well.

mlb.com posted the prospect most on the rise from each team. Boston:

Red Sox: Brandon Clarke, LHP (No. 4)
After missing most of the previous two seasons and having little history of throwing strikes, Clarke became the top junior college prospect in the '24 Draft and went in the fifth round out of the State JC of Florida (Manatee-Sarasota). He has raised his profile even more this year, when his fastball has clocked as high as 100 mph and he has developed a wipeout slider that touches 91 with huge sweep and depth. Blister issues have limited him to 35 2/3 innings between two Class A stops and hampered his control, but he has posted a 3.79 ERA with a .119 average-against and 35 percent strikeout rate.

The sad part is that we have so many outfielders in Boston, that we cannot give him the proper opportunity to show what he can do for us!!!

Maybe if he becomes miraculously proficient at 1st base in the next 30 days. He can see some time there in Boston ????

Jh Garcia is supposed to be a plus defender, so it seems like a waste to move him or any of our fine defensive OF'ers to another position, including our best defender, Rafaela, to 2B.

I think the obvious solution will be to maximize player value by trading a LHB Of'er this winter (Duran or Abreu) and promote JH Garcia as the platoon/4th OF'er who can also DH, some.

LF Duran/Garcia

CF Rafaela/Garcia

RF Anthony/Garcia

DH (1B?)  Garcia/ Campbell/Romy (Yoshida)

or

LF Anthony/Garcia

CF Rafaela/Garcia

RF Abreu/Garcia platoon

DH (1B?)  Garcia/ Campbell/Romy (Yoshida)

With the trade we make a massive upgrade to our rotation by packaging some prospects with the OF'er chosen to trade. (We could also trade JH Garcia, but we won't get the same return.)

I believe Campbell will be an elite bat in any lineup. But defensively, I honestly do not see a position for him,

does he build up enough value over the remainder of the season to headline or co-headline a trade????

I don't see prospects losing a ton of value over a few games at the big league level that exposed his awful defense at one position. I can't imagine he's any worse at 1B than Casas, and could probably be better than Toro at 1B by next season. He should be okay in LF, once he learns the ball hit angles better. (CF is taken.)

He is a clear level one prospect, if not considered graduated, already.

Why isn't JH Garcia a top tier prospect, since he's top 100 and hitting better, recently? He's also a plus fielder.

Early pitched well for Woo, tonight. 5IP, 3H, 2ER, 1BB, 7K. It's good to see less BBs from him, recently.  Burdi may be back in BOS, soon. He pitched 1 inning and K'd two. Sogard has 3 hit through 6 innings.

Alcantara homered for POR.

Clarke & Aita are struggling in the GRE game.

If we trade an OF'er, this winter, where I am almost certain we do (Duran or Abreu,) we can have Campbell learn to play LF and act as our DH when not playing LF or CF. We'd also have RHB Jh garcia as OF/DH depth.

Campbell may end up as our longtime 1Bman, where can allow Casas to DH, and hopefully cut down on his chances of getting hurt. (He did hurt himself swinging a bat, so there is that,)

I think Campbell still has enormous trade value. I have never believed GMs drop value based on a couple bad months of play on any player. With Jh Garcia knocking on the 26 man door, and an OF'er bound to be traded, I think Campbell can still fill a key role on our 26, especially if we rid ourselves of Yoshida, someway-somehow.

Let's assume Brez goes real bold and trades away Duran & Campbell, this winter- maybe for a Ryan and a 1Bman or 2Bman (adding other midlevel prospects, including a pitcher or two, like Sandlin, Early, Paez or Mullins.)

C: Narvaez & Wong

1B: ____ (trade or FA) Casas/Romy

2B: ____ (trade or FA) Mayer (DHam/Romy/Romero) Rafaela in an emergency

SS: Story & Mayer (Arias) Rafaela in an emergency

3B: Bregman & Mayer (Romero)

LF: Anthony & Jh Garcia (Yoshida)

CF: Rafaela & Jh Garcia

RF: Abreu & Jh garcia (Maybe Ref comes back for another season)

DH: Yoshida/ Ref or Romy platoon

SP: Crochet, Ryan, Giolito, Bello & about 8 to 10 guys fighting for the 5 slot (Sandoval, Dobbins, Crawford, Harrison, Criswell, Wink, Tolle, Early, Perales and Uberstine) Houck out for the season.

POR won 4-3. Castro with 2 hits.

GRE won 1-0. Sprague went 5 and Kirwin 2.

SAL won 6-4 as Cespedes went 2-3 + SF, and Azocar homered.

Tolle had a rough first start with Woo. 5 IP, 7H, 5ER, 1BB, 3K (2 HRs) Mata pitched well in relief, but you have to wonder, if his days are numbered with the Sox. Campbell homered in the 6-3 loss. He had 2 hits and a HBP.

POR lost 3-1 to drop 3 games under .500. Mullins pitched well (2.28 ERA) Castro is heating up and had 2 hits.

GRE won 2-1, as Sansone pitched well. They are 2 over .500. Jo Garcia had an RBI. Mussett had 3 hits.

SAL won 8-7 but has no chance of reaching .500. Martin went 4-5, Salazar 3-3 and Gonzales & Azocar each had 2 hits.
