They said that Garcia and Travieso should have been equal value for Oviedo and other sources were surprised that Breslow was able to bring back additional value. Guzman's glove gives him a high floor, but needs to work on the offensive side (has shown patience and pull power). Samaniego adjusted his mechanics post surgery and was able to be more effective in '25, but has not pitched above AA (secondaries need work).

While Garcia was ranked 6th, they could make the case that he was in a tier that was anywhere from 6 to 15 or so (where some teams value him). Travieso was seen as a top 10 prospect by some other franchises, but also had a very fluid value similar to Garcia.

Yes, and this is silly but I like having brothers in the org. A family affair.  Like the Mary J song.

I know that trading PW would bother me less if we didnt have his brother and were thereby breaking up the brothers.  I know that its silly to put value on PW because of a sop story that creates feels and its heart-warming to have 2 brothers.  But Im nothing if not sappy

Good to see Brez squeeze other GMs like DD used to be squeezed.

Brez was probably squeezed on the Crochet trade, but who cares? (Same with many DD trades.)

Paez was #20 on soxprospects,com.

We've traded #6 Garcia and #19 Travieso for Oviedo and a couple prospects (Samaniego & Guzman)

We've traded #8 Clarke with Fitts for Sonny Gray

We've traded unranked Justin Riemer for Ryan Watson (Rule 5)

We traded Grissom for a prospect Isaiah Jackson.

Some players will move up by attrition. I'm not sure where Watson will place. I think they mentioned Samaniego might place in the 30's and Guzman in the 40's. Jackson may place somewhere.

soxprospects updated their rankings list based on a few moves:

Traded away:

4. Perales

6. Jh Garcia

8. B Clarke

20. J Travieso

Lost to Rule 5:

21. J Paez

Other than jumps due to lost players, these are the new top prospects:

??? Bennett (for Perales)

22. Ryan Watson (for Riemer)

30. Samaniego (w Oviedo & Guzman for Garcia & Travieso)

32. A, Guzman (see trade above)

33. L Heyman (obtained in Hoppe trade) Was ranked 34th before

50. I Jackson (Obtained in Grissom trade)

No doubt our farm got worse since the end of 2025. When you look at the 2025 grads, our farm ranking will take a tumble:

Anthony & Mayer

Campbell, Dobbins & Narvaez

Bennett will be either before or after Valera.

I think the system is definitely not a top 10 anymore. However, they still have Tolle and Early at the top which look like two studs right now. All the rankings calculate differently. They may be higher on FanGraphs because of Tolle and Early and lower on others.

There's a chance they could bounce back up midseason due to some of the 2025 college draftees (Eyanson, Phillips, Godbout), but we'll see.

They slotted Bennet right after #5 Valera and before #7 Gonzales.

We've seen some major swings in how our GMs approach the trading of top prospects. Ben hoarded them and DD traded away over 20 prospects that at one point were ranked in the top 20 by soxprospects.com. We could probably count on one hand the amount of top 10 prospects traded away by Bloom, and many more of his traded involved acquiring prospects than trading them away. Even his trades for vets often has a prospect or two thrown in- like DHam with JBJ and Wink with Franchy.

Maybe this is part of the cycle of winning strategy I have mentioned JH & Co. loosely following. Maybe it was more team philosophy shits rather than the individual choices made by the ever-changing GMs. I may have missed a few trades, but I'm pretty sure Brez has traded away more top 20 prospects in each of his last two years with BOS than Bloom did in his 4 years combined.

Blooms major prospects traded away:

9. Aldo Ramirez (Schwarber)

NR (was 13th once) Scherff (Robles)

(Graduated but was a #1) Chavis (A Davis)

Let me know if I missed some.

Soxprospects.com podcast said Brez has signed 13 top 20 prospects to 11 by DD at this point in his tenure. This was before the Contreras deal was announce, so add one for Fajardo. (Dobbins had graduated)

When you look at the MLB everyday player roster and team control. There are no positions beyond 3B or 2B that needs filling. Yoshida (DH) is gone after 2027. Story (SS) & Contreras (1B) have an option year for 2028. Duran (LF) Romy (2B/1B) Wong (C) and Casas (DH/1B) are gone after 2029.

That's a pretty amazing set-up, and it positions us well, when you consider our everyday farm strength, especially near MLB ready is not that strong. Here is how it may play out:

3B/2B (if we fill for 2026 w a 1 yr guy) Mayer or Romy (Eaton, Sogard, Arias, Romero)

DH (Yoshida gone) after 2027: Duran/Campbell/Casas

SS (Story gone) after 2027 or 2028: Mayer/Arias

1B (Contreras gone) after '27 or '28: Casas/Romy/Campbell

LF (Duran gone) after 2028: We have 3 OF'ers + Campbell

C (Wong gone) after 2028: We have Jo Garcia/Guzman/ J Rodriguez (Heyman/Primera)

It doesn't look so bad for the short or long term with the everyday roster.

The pitching situation looks like it could get better as time goes by, but we do lose some key pen pieces soon.
